I trust the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation for news - it is non-fake news.

snipped by me. I was just wondering if the text of your post was the WHO talking or not.

I was wondering because the US case fatality rate isn't the highest by far -- even based on current statistics with limited testing.

From the article at the link:

For a comparison, let’s look at 9 European countries which together have about 326 million inhabitants, which is nearly the same as the U.S.: Germany, U.K, France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Portugal, and Austria. As of April 20th, these countries have roughly the same numbers of confirmed cases of coronavirus – 770,000 - as the U.S. The table below shows that the U.S. has a better case fatality rate than six of the countries, and worse than three.

Also, in terms of the other estimate used by the coronavirus task force, deaths per 100,000 people, the U.S. has approximately 11, which is better than Spain, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, U.K., and France.

How Accurate Is Trump’s Claim That The U.S. Has A Better COVID-19 Death Rate Than Other Nations?

for some reason i thought the US borders were already closed, the fact they've only just done it today is stunning to me ugh

Canada closed all borders to everyone but Canadians roughly a month ago. Some thought that the USA closed the border with Canada, but it was the other way around. That is why Canada will decide when it opens.

It seems like a race to prove that they've conquered the virus and life is back to normal. I can't wait to watch the USA numbers on worldometers in the next 2 weeks!
My husband is a paramedic in Atlanta....this nonsense puts his life at risk and mine, as well as millions of Georgians., healthcare workers, and first responders. People don't forget when they figure out you don't care about them.

Atlanta Mayor @KeishaBottoms: "I am extremely concerned about the announcement the governor made."
"Our biggest outbreak in the state came from two funerals...for us to go back to opening up houses of worship just seems a bit premature to me," she adds. Georgia to reopen some businesses as early as Friday ABC News Live on Twitter

Savannah Mayor Van Johnson says he's "beyond disturbed" by Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp's "reckless" decision to reopen some businesses this week. "It blows our minds that here in Georgia that we would have these types of rules being lifted in a time where people are still suffering." CNN on Twitter

I may be missing something but why is Sweden getting praise for the way there handling the pandemic. I just looked and their numbers aren't all that great in fact their deaths/1 million population is higher than the United States.

Coronavirus Update (Live): 2,481,374 Cases and 170,436 Deaths from COVID-19 Virus Pandemic - Worldometer

Just speculation on my part, but maybe because they're achieving roughly the same results healthwise with none of the pain of lock down, economic and otherwise?

Eta: I have no idea whether Sweden is being praised or not. I'm taking your word for it :)

Exactly. A glance at the numbers, and it's clear that even in Scandinavia, Sweden is losing the battle. When you think about it, omitting the mortality rate when discussing Sweden's governance might leave people thinking it is low.

Here in So. California we are to hit 90 degrees farenheit this weekend.
Will people flock to the beach?
I say yes.
Will the elderly? Probably not.
Kids and teens? For sure.
Hopefully, we can keep them safely spaced out.
How? I do not know, but, I sure hope our leaders are pondering this question.

but their guy says this.... can someone really find the truth within all these articles? So confusing

Sweden’s Top Epidemiologist: COVID-19 Infections Flattening Under Policy of Individual Responsibility | Dan Sanchez

I wanted to find a less biased source than conservative, libertarian F.E.E. that was linked.

Sweden challenges Trump and scientific mainstream by refusing coronavirus lockdown - CNN

Critics question Swedish approach as coronavirus death toll reaches 1,000

I will say that “personal responsibility” said to be the basis for Sweden’s handling of coronavirus would not necessarily fly here IMO. In my state of Oregon, Governor Kate Brown requested that people not flock to the Oregon Coast at the start of spring break so as not to burden the small communities there. But they did, in droves. The following Monday, she issued the stay-at-home order. Maybe Swede’s have a “personal responsibility” gene that Americans don’t have.

So to point to Sweden as the example to follow for opening up here may not be taking everything into consideration.

Not sure why they did the charade with the guidelines. None of these states meet the gate requirements for phase 1. Especially testing....flying blind.
Gonna be an embarrassment when their numbers go up.

Well, they're actually doing worse than us. We are currently averaging 128 Deaths Per Million, while Sweden is at 156. Spain is at 446, while Belgium is a staggering 503.

ah interesting, i guess we were lucky and your son was lucky because not long after he left we locked down ours

i dunno i thought i had read they had already done it, must have been they were thinking of doing it

i kinda wished they had done it sooner, but at least some areas are doing better this week, i spoke to a friend in Santa Clara and he said that area is doing alright

They don't sweat embarrassment. They deal with it every day without much consequence.

Ya know, I heard that the best thing that could have happened for the Bay Area, was the 49ers losing in the Super Bowl. The virus was spreading rapidly up there in mid-February, and it would have been like N.O. Mardi Gras in terms of spreading it, had there been celebrations and a parade.

They have restrictions with different governance. For example, people over 70 are told to stay home except to walk the dog in nearby parks. Sweden is not dropping restrictions yet, the USA is. After the USA drops restrictions, it will not be the same as Sweden.

Sweden has 11% case fatality rate. NL is like Sweden. Watchman mentioned it earlier today : whether vulnerable people should self-restrict while non-vulnerable people self-govern to reduce virus transmission. That results in a higher mortality rate.

Here's What It's Actually Like To Do Covid-19 Drive Thru Nose Swab Testing

"Several counties are now offering free drive-thru COVID-19 testing for anyone who wants it, even if you aren't showing symptoms.

Oak Ridge already started, partnering with Kroger to offer drive-thru testing this week. They tested 593 people over three days.

It's a nose swab test you do yourself in your car, which many people will see if they choose drive-thru testing.

They ask you make an appointment ahead of time through your respective health department, or Kroger if they're the ones administering the test.

You're asked to wear a mask, bring your license and keep your window rolled up. You will need to crack your window to talk to the test administrators and receive paperwork and your test."
If doing it themselves, I doubt the results will be accurate. I understand you have to swab painfully deep to get an accurate result.

was the 49ers losing in the Super Bowl.

would have been bonkers downtown if my 9ers had won, parade would have been much much bigger than in Missouri

still a little sensative about that losss..we almost had it so so close just 7 more minutes ugh

Bigger than embarrassment....people are gonna die. They are gonna trust this fool and fill up the churches. Then here we go again. Cartersville, GA outbreak started in a church. Albany outbreak started at 2 large funerals and a church. It's still not under control. Atlanta is a metro that hasnt peaked. Paramedic husband said this past weekend was quiet....but most think it's the calm before the storm. This will just make it worse and could overwhelm the hospitals. They stay maxed with normal business. I dont know what data Kemp is looking at but the rest of the world's not seeing it.
