Reality check. The virus spread to the US from Europe: CDC

The virus then came into the U.S. from Europe, the CDC reported. "The findings do show that in late February, early March, there were several importations of the virus from Europe to California and northeastern United States and possibly elsewhere," Redfield said.
CDC reveals when coronavirus started spreading in the U.S.
But it was already on the West coast by a traveller from Wuhan into the US on 21 January. That was the first known case.

6 feet likely not far enough to stop COVID-19 transmission: experts
...

In a perspective article published in the journal Science, three experts wrote that aerosol particles can accumulate and remain infectious in indoor air for hours, while being easily inhaled deep into the lungs.

"Increasing evidence for SARS-CoV-2 suggests the 6 ft WHO recommendation is likely not enough under many indoor conditions where aerosols can remain airborne for hours, accumulate over time, and follow air flows over distances further than 6 ft," they said.

Chia Wang of National Sun Yat-sen University in Taiwan, as well as Kimberly Prather and Dr. Robert Schooley of the University of California, San Diego, said that a large proportion of the COVID-19 spread appears to be occurring through the airborne transmission of aerosols. They added the transmission was produced by asymptomatic individuals during breathing and speaking.

On Tuesday, the experts said that for society to resume as normal, measures must be implemented to reduce aerosol transmission, which includes the universal wearing of masks -- in addition to widespread testing. They believe both practices could help identify and isolate those infected asymptomatic individuals.
...
The six feet of social distancing guidelines by the WHO is based on studies of respiratory droplets in the 1930s. However, technology didn't exist at the time for detecting tiny aerosol particles, the experts stated.
...

This month, a study by scientists in Hong Kong found that using surgical masks could reduce the rate of non-contact transmission through respiratory droplets or airborne particles by up to 75 percent.
...
So 6 feet is not even enough actually.

ETA posting this article that has some interesting detection possibilities for airports etc.

Five ways the pandemic may change airports for the better

Sorry if this was already posted. Interesting and I think encouraging.

Coronavirus May Be a Blood Vessel Disease, Which Explains Everything

Yes, Dr. Seheult has been discussing this in detail since mid-April. MSM is finally catching on. While I agree it's interesting, it's effect therefore are not encouraging MOO as it makes the disease so much more complex/widespread in the body vs. being limited.

If the positive result is accurate, I had no symptoms. I haven't had a cold or flu or respiratory illness in years though - even when it's going around and everyone else is sick.

I'm going to check around next week to see if I can enroll in a study to see how long antibodies last and if they provide any kind of immunity. Those questions really need answers.
Do you get regular flu vaccines?

  • #426
Yep, the tests for active virus are more likely to have false negatives. But antibody tests are likely to have false positives. To the point that CDC is making warnings for people to not make decisions based on positive antibody test.

Have you got links for these facts?

I presume from China, how else? Apparently Italy employs a lot of people from China in their factories so clothes could have "made in Italy" label.
Link?

Also, even if Chinese or other nationalities are working in Italian garment factories then they are still "made in Italy" unless you mean Italian companies make their products in China but then mis label them as made in Italy. Perhaps you can clarify.

Miami-Dade adopts wastewater epidemiology to help fight coronavirus

Someone mentioned Florida sewage containing coronavirus so I found this article. 40 states are getting their sewage analysed apparently.

From the link-

"Data shows that so far the highest reading was measured on April 9. It showed that up to 46,000 — 2% of Miami-Dade’s 2.3 million people using the wastewater system — may have been infected. The Florida Department of Health reported there were about 5,745 confirmed cases as of that day."

So the sewage indicates 46,000 are infected when confirmed cases were only at 5,745. That could indicate under estimation of cases by about 88%.

Can you imagine the spread?

Protests in 30 US cities right now. Killer Coronavirus is there too and will reveal more in about 21 days. Minneapolis protests are three times as large as the 1960’s race protests. With already high COVID-19 numbers LA, Atlanta, DC, Detroit can ill afford spreading this disease, but through the protests, they are!

I fear where we are headed.

It's like watching a slow motion train wreck.

i equate it to sitting on a beach on a sunny day, knowing that the level 5 hurricane is coming, slowly and deliberately..but it is coming.

Here's a link which might provide some context regarding Chinese citizens who become textile manufacturing workers in Italy.

Unemployment rates for states. Note that some of the states in the single-digit list have not yet announced cuts to their state budgets going forward, still holding out hope that the federal government might bail them out. So these numbers may change soon for some of the lowest-ranking states.

Thanks for that. That was published in 2014 so is it still going on? If so I could see the illegal workers bringing in the virus but have seen no link suggesting that so far.

Here is a more recent news article on both the Chinese garment workers in Italy, and the Chinese entrepreneurs who own the factories. Although this article doesn't mention it, Chinese around the world as part of the Chinese diaspora returned to China for the New Year holiday which was on January 24th this year. It is like Thanksgiving in the U.S. Almost everyone travels, going home to see family. Then they returned to Italy.

Thanks for that but the cases began in Rome and Lombardy and were nowhere near Prato. These are the origins for the first Italian cases.

COVID-19 pandemic in Italy - Wikipedia

So far, I have not found anywhere that the Italian outbreak of the virus came from illegal Chinese workers in Italy.

Apologies if already posted.
______

A gang of monkeys attacked a laboratory assistant and escaped with a batch of coronavirus blood test samples, it has been reported.

The bizarre incident saw the troop of primates launch their assault near Meerut Medical College in Delhi, India.

According to local media, the animals then snatched COVID-19 blood test samples that had been taken from three patients and fled.

One of the monkeys was later spotted in a tree chewing one of the sample collection kits, the Times of India reported - adding that test samples from the patients had to be taken again.

The undamaged kits were later recovered, the Meerut medical college superintendent, Dheeraj Raj, told AFP.

He added: "They were still intact and we don't think there is any risk of contamination or spread."

Trump terminates US relationship with WHO

From the link-

"More than 102,000 people in the US have lost their lives to Covid-19 - by far the biggest death toll in the world.

What did Trump say?
"We will be today terminating our relationship with the World Health Organization and directing those funds" to other global public health charities, Mr Trump said in the White House Rose Garden.

"The world is now suffering as a result of the malfeasance of the Chinese government," he said.

He added that China had "instigated a global pandemic that has cost over 100,000 American lives".

The president accused China of pressurising the WHO to "mislead the world" about the virus, without giving evidence for his allegations."
