So I guess being outside in the sun and heat isn't really a cure-all for the virus.

The problem for Florida, Arizona, Southern Nevada is the high percentage of elderly population.

And minorities. For some reason, this virus is decimating native American populations.

Sorry, I honestly didn’t realize it was considered a biased outlet. I have never heard of OAN.

I will link the original source below. It is in quotes from De Blasio’s spokesperson, Avery Cohen. I haven’t heard a denial, so I don’t know.

I have found the more “mainstream media” sometimes won’t report certain stories, maybe that is the case here. If found to be false, I will certainly revise my post.

NYC COVID-19 Contact Tracers Not Asking About George Floyd Protest Participation, Despite Fears of New Virus Wave

well that is pretty stupid: if they aren't going to get accurate
information, what is the point?

That sounds so lovely. I am glad you got to have a nice family visit.

I am trying to set something like that up for Father's Day, sometime this weekend. But it is a bit more complicated because my daughter in law spends a lot of time helping with her Mom, who is having her 2nd round of radiation for a cancer reoccurrence.

So she has to be VERY cautious about any kind of germs/microbes etc.

WE miss our 5 yr old granddaughter very much.

We have been FaceTiming and ZOOMing and waving from the end of the driveway. But I miss playing and talking and laughing with her, reading books etc...And hugging her!

We have had a few chances to sit socially distanced with our daughter and her boyfriend. It was so nice to have a beer on the back patio and catch up on things. So hopefully we can do the same with my son and his family this weekend...we'll see....

I hope you do get a visit set up soon. : ).

What is the true death toll of the coronavirus pandemic?

This is an analysis of countries' Covid deaths compared to their excess deaths. I think it means for UK for example, that our CV deaths are really 51k not 41k.

Dates are various due to when the virus peaks .
Eg numbers are as at 2nd May for US and 5 Jun for UK.

Many of the 'peaceful protesters' were standing one inch away from the faces of the National Guardsmen who were ordered to stand there like dummies, and shouting vulgarities into their faces.

Anyone complain about that or express outrage about spreading the virus?

that’s because IMO, and they’ve certainly tried to confuse us all, ‘the lockdown’ was only ever centered around ‘don’t overwhelm the hospitals’.

unfortunately for NYC at minimum, what we had DID overwhelm the hospitals ... but not as much as they thought it would, since the Naval ship hospital and others went nearly empty.

but regardless. it was never about making sure nobody got coronavirus; because there is no vaccine. The CDC, etc. already knew they weren’t going to be able to avoid everyone who would eventually get it, from getting it. They just wanted to try to stretch the PPE; and because these gestures can’t actually eradicate coronavirus, it is up to people to prioritize what they choose to leave the house for;

<modsnip: Please don't bring politics and racial discussion to the thread>

IMO, MOO, JMO.

Coronavirus: China fears new COVID-19 ripple will lead to second wave

Beijing isn't in full lockdown, at least not yet.

But the new outbreak here has residents - and the Chinese Communist Party - worried.

Today the authorities confirmed another 21 locally transmitted cases of COVID-19 in the capital, bringing the total in the latest cluster to 158. And they are not confined just to Beijing - cases have been recorded in provinces across China.

The first question is how this happened. Life in China had been getting back to normal, with people going back to work and restaurants reopening.

But the country still had some of the strictest COVID-19 measures in place. Foreigners are still banned from entering the country, with some very limited exceptions.

Entry to apartment blocks and shops requires scanning a QR code on your phone, to harvest your location history. Masks and temperature checks are ubiquitous.

And yet here we are. Its exact origins remain a mystery, despite China's claims that this is a European strain of the virus. China has sequenced the genome but - shock, horror - has not made it public, so it is impossible for the outside world to know.

In the meantime, the full might of the Chinese state has been brought to bear. More than 350,000 tests were carried out in four days.

Contacts have been traced extensively. Several residential compounds have been sealed off. And all schools have been shut, bars ordered to close and flights in and out of the capital curbed. "Wartime measures" as one local official put it.

My beef with folks attending this rally is who could they spread it to. Yes it's their freedom of choice to attend. What about the innocent folks they may infect. Their Family. Work mates etc. etc. Their choice certainly can have an affect on others. Others trying to stay safe.
They are all attending at their own risk and signing a waiver so if there is any spread they have accepted the risk by attending. We cannot stay locked up forever. The health services are coping and life has to get back to normal. Stimulus and furlough payments will stop and people have to go back to work. We have a treatment now and everyone knows their vulnerabilities.

Springsteen is not going to risk lives having a concert.
We risk our lives stepping out the door to go shopping. What's the difference? It's not overwhelming health services anymore so we need to open up. We can choose to go to mass protests, rallies, gatherings, fly etc. Back to work too. No more 5 mile restrictions on travel B/S.

They are handing out masks and hand sanitiser at the door, where temperatures are being checked.

Those sound like good precautionary measures.

Let's look at your list and see if it also matches the nationwide protests:
-large groups✔️
-indoors
-close to each other for prolonged periods of time ✔️
-chanting and yelling (AKA spitting)✔️
-general disregard for masks✔️
-public restrooms✔️
Plus add the tear gas and smoke from fires at the protests as it can spread via the eyes too.

Everyone seems to be ignoring the huge elephant in the room. Why are we pretending Trump’s rally is going to end civilization as we know it but ignoring the fact that thousands of people in hundreds of cities are milling around in tent cities, using Porta potties or public bathrooms, standing shoulder to shoulder, screaming and spitting on police officers just inches from their faces, for weeks on end. Remember that black people had a very high rate of coronavirus before the protests? Imagine what it is now? Nobody cares that they want to kill grandma, because racism?

I wonder if Health Services is ever going to go set up testing sites in CHAZ/CHOP ?

It seems like they may have a Petri dish going on in there now.

"Dr. Eric Feigl-Ding says Arizona holds new records for cases, positivity percentages, hospitalizations and ICU beds in use."

"He says the numbers in the state are now exceeding Brazil and Peru, and he's expecting the state to be one of the hardest-hit regions in the world. The state's numbers are exceeding all European countries as well..."

"So all the terrible things you heard about Lombardi, Italy, Arizona per capita has surpassed Lombardi, Italy. That is where I became worried yesterday," he said."

COVID-19 cases in Arizona surpass 40,000; deaths increase by 20 | AZ Big Media

Arizona is among 14 states seeing a surge in COVID-19 cases. Arizona has hit its highest seven-day average of new COVID-19 cases since the beginning of the pandemic. Nationwide protests, relaxed stay-at-home limitations and reopenings could play a role in increasing numbers, according to The Washington Post.

The surging numbers gave some health officials concern. But Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey, who relaxed COVID-19 restrictions two weeks ago, said in a news conference Thursday that he is not planning to change course. Calls seeking comment from his office Friday were not immediately returned.

“I am confident that we’ve made the best and most responsible decisions possible, guided by public health the entire way,” Ducey said Thursday. “This virus is not going away.”

Arizona ranks No. 20 among states with the most confirmed COVID-19 cases. New York leads the nation with the highest number of COVID-19 cases.

It was suggested yesterday that maybe it could be a good idea to wear a mask and a depend. This guy in Scotland got the message 2 months ago.

Coronavirus can infect nostrils MUCH more easily than the lungs | Daily Mail Online

Another article that points out how important it is to wear a mask PROPERLY OVER THE NOSE (DUH)--- because the virus infects the nostrils much more easily than the lungs
Ok so if we wear nose plugs instead of masks, could that be a halfway house?

This reminds me about nasal sprays.

Covid-19: Anti-coronavirus nasal spray, Neumifil, in works in UK

Scientists at the St Andrews University-linked company Pneumagen say an antiviral drug they are developing could be an effective remedy against Covid-19.

Drug masks airway receptors to block coronavirus' entry into lungs
Originally created for use in treating respiratory-tract infections such as flu, the drug - called Neumifil - works by masking glycan receptors in a person's airways and blocking the coronavirus’ path into the lungs.

Glycan receptors are located on the surface of lung cells. When someone contracts a viral infection, a key initial step in this process comes when the virus latches onto cell-surface receptors.

Neumifil: nasal spray used "weekly or every other day"
“Classic antivirals actually attack some part of the virus’ machinery, whereas our drug actually inhibits the virus from even getting into cells,” said Gary Taylor, the lead researcher and a professor of biology at St Andrews University, in an interview with the Daily Mail.

“We envision it being given as a nasal spray, and imagine it being given weekly or every other day.”

For some reason people want to believe the sun and heat kills that virus--- it doesn't---wish it did though.

Well that drug sounds like it gives us some hope----- one of the statements in this article discusses how the virus gets into your nose and then into your lungs while you sleep: i don't understand that- how do we get infected with virus while we sleep? Exposure occurs when you come in contact with someone who has the virus sneezes, coughs or breathes on you---for enough time to allow the virus to spread to another person- how does this translate to getting the virus into your nose during the night- or does that mean while you sleep the virus keeps replicating in your nose?

I agree the protests are spreading the virus. But, the protests have gone beyond the US, spreading to cities and countries without problems with police enforcement. I am not diminishing the systemic reasons for the protests, but COVID-19 may be a cause as well.

If one is locked up in their home, with limited social interaction - then going to a high-minded protest provides relief from the cabin fever. It's for the greater good, silence is acquiescence. That's where we were a few ago. Now, society is reopening.

Opening up society, however necessary, will cause more spread. More hospitalizations, more deaths. It's a "brave new world."

I don't have answers. Just be safe and avoid (if possible):

Confined spaces
Crowds
Contact (wear masks and gloves, as appropriate)
Wash your hands
Keep a distance (where possible)
