I suspect that there will be people trying to get into the event who will have elevated temperatures and could be infected with the virus already. I sense a calm before a major storm...

I have no doubt there could be people who know they are infected that would knowingly go to such an event to get people of the opposing party sick. I’m sure there are people who do this at the protests and riots that have been ongoing for nearly a month now. I also have no doubt there are people from both sides, for a variety of reasons, that would take fever reducing medicine to “pass” the temperature screen to gain admission.

I also believe if the policy at the door is to deny entry for a temp over X degrees, those people won’t be allowed in. Any event involving the sitting POTUS is going to involve actual security with immediate consequences if someone decides to be uncooperative if asked to leave. They’re not going to care if the person who fails the temp screen has been camped out there for the last year.

I wouldn’t watch it. I’m not going to get wound up about stupid people doing stupid things. It’s to be expected. It’s one set of PPE. That’s it. Governments lost or threw out much more than this in the recent past. Watching this makes as much sense as the people who continually watched live video of the looting while absolutely freaking out about it. Just shake your head and move on. You’ll have a much more pleasant night.

NOPE. Not when I’ve watched everyWHO conference and health workers and the WORLD are in a global shortage of PPE.
Over my dead body!

If everyone sits around and accepts this BS? We have time! Why the hell would I lie down and not try??? That’s worse than them! Screw my night! It was screwed along time ago.

Now I am NoT Kidding. If anyone gives a crap about RESPECT and principles, please tweet Anderson Cooper. Please. I am begging. At least TRY to do something.

Over and out.

That article I provided gives you an example of the view on masked protesters (hunt saboteurs) in the UK doing it to avoid recognition. That is what you asked for. I can ignore provocative points I disagree with and if I think answering will be political or OT.

Power posting is often a reason someone misses the point of an original post. Various nuances are key to many posts.

Brazil now the second nation to record 1 million cases of COVID-19

Brazil has become the second country, behind America to record one million coronavirus cases.

The country has confirmed more than 54,000 cases in the past 24 hours.

COVID-19 related deaths are nearing 50,000 in the country.
It comes as Brazil's president has been widely criticised for his handling of the crisis.

He has publicly rejected scientific advice around distancing and lockdowns.

Popping in to post this. Orange County, CA has highest single day cases since beginning, at 413. Previous high was 297 way back on June 14. 3rd highest rate was 288, that was yesterday.

OT breaking news

Three feared dead after park stabbing incident

Re the masks I am pretty sure they said they were cloth masks so no good for health workers - they are not N95 for example. MOO.
That was me and my heart. Stabbed!!!

These people have just been stabbed in a possible terror incident in a park in England. I don't think it is remotely comparable to people sitting at home worrying about discarded cloth masks at a public event.

My bad. Deleted.

But minimizing this? Wow.

Re: N95s, yes but people still need masks period.

It’s the principle too.

Whatever. I’m obviously on a different planet than some. So I’ll just go back to my planet.

FYI my BFF who is a front lines health worker is outraged by this. She’s held people’s hands and prayed with them while they died! Ok? And she thinks this is a problem, throwing away masks. Stupid.

How many confirmed cases are there in your area?

There have been more than 300,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK and more than 42,500 people have died, government figures show.

However, these numbers only include people who have been tested, and the total number of deaths relating to coronavirus is likely to be higher.

_113002465_cv_stats_20_06-nc.png

_105914179_blank_white_space-nc.png

Latest figures from the Office For National Statistics (ONS) show that the weekly number of recorded deaths has returned to close to normal levels for the time of year.

Death certificates mentioning the virus suggest there had been more than 50,000 deaths by 5 June, according to ONS figures.

When looking at deaths over and above the expected number for this time of year, the toll rises to more than 64,000 by the same date.

Some of these deaths are likely to include people with undiagnosed coronavirus or those who died as an indirect result of the pandemic.

Coronavirus accounted for about 14% of all deaths in the UK in the week to 5 June, according to death registration data - a drop from 18% the previous week.

In the week to 17 April, when deaths from the virus reached their peak, this figure was just under 40%.

Less chance for virus spreading at rally. Instead of 1 Million or 19,000, there are maybe 10,000 in attendance.

Are these washable masks? Because if not, I would not want them after they’ve been handled.

And the kind of people who would collect these to save are also the kind of people some of these folks would love to pick a fight with. There has been violence at these rallies before. I don’t think it’s worth taking a chance of people getting hurt or spit on or anything like that. We already know that anti-maskers are capable of spitting on others on purpose. We see it over and over again. I hope nobody puts themselves at risk of infection to collect these.

Ok. I hear ya.

I was thinking more along the lines of a bin at the door...

“Want a mask?“ If they say no it goes in the bin.

Would never want someone at risk obviously. Wasn’t talking about direct interaction...

never mind. At least I care.

I'll visit you.

Mr HKP is a key worker commuting into London by train.

It's blatantly disrespectful IMO to deliberately discard and waste any form of PPE right now. Across the pond or on our doorstep.

Masks reveal partisan split among lawmakers on coronavirus

BY DAVID A. LIEB ASSOCIATED PRESS

JUNE 09, 2020 02:07 PM
FILE - In this May 18, 2020 file photo, Alaska state Sen. Lora Reinbold, center, is shown on the Senate floor in Juneau, Alaska. The nation's ongoing battle against the coronavirus is dividing lawmakers along partisan lines in state Capitols. Health screenings were required of legislative staff and media at the Alaska Capitol, though lawmakers could skip it. Protocols said masks were required. But Reinbold didn't wear one. “It didn’t make sense to me,” Reinbold said. "I saw no research on cloth, silk, cotton face coverings ... that they prevent COVID.” BECKY BOHRER AP

JEFFERSON CITY, MO.
To the issues creating a partisan divide in state legislatures across the U.S., add this one: masks.

Many Democratic lawmakers are wearing them amid the coronavirus outbreak while many Republicans refuse.

"Public health has become partisan,” bemoaned South Carolina state Rep. Kambrell Garvin, a Democrat who recently became ill from COVID-19.

As legislatures around the country resume work following coronavirus suspensions, Democrats and Republicans also have split over social distancing, remote voting and the extension of emergency powers for governors who had ordered businesses to close and residents to remain home.

Lawmakers have become ill from the coronavirus in nearly half the states, with Democrats accounting for about two-thirds of the 40 confirmed COVID-19 cases, according to an Associated Press tally. Three lawmakers died of the virus — a Michigan Democrat in late March and Republicans in Louisiana and South Dakota in early April.

Partisan divisions appear to have grown since then, particularly in the South and Midwest, as some Republicans pushed to reopen the economy faster than some Democrat

India has the fourth-highest number of COVID-19 cases, but the Government denies community transmission

India has the fourth-highest number of COVID-19 cases, but the Government denies community transmission

By Erin Handley

...
With hundreds of train carriages being converted into makeshift wards and Mumbai's hospitals overwhelmed, there are fears India could become the next global hotspot for the deadly coronavirus.

India now has the fourth highest number of COVID-19 cases in the world, trailing only the US, Brazil and Russia, with more than 380,500 confirmed cases and more than 12,500 deaths.
It marks a rapid rise. At the start of June, there were fewer than 200,000 cases. A month before that, it was fewer than 38,000. Last Friday's tally of more than 13,500 was the biggest spike in cases in a single day.

But despite the high caseload, the Indian Government maintains there is no community transmission.

"India is such a large country and prevalence is very low. India is not in community transmission," Balram Bhargava, director general of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), said last week.
Community transmission is where COVID-19 has spread to a person who hasn't recently been overseas and who isn't a recent contact with a confirmed case, meaning the source of infection is unknown.

"India has not declared community transmission simply because there isn't any," said economics professor Raghbendra Jha, head of the Australia South Asia Research Centre at ANU's Crawford School of Public Policy.

"India has a high number of cases but the number of deaths is low in comparison to many other much more developed countries."

Countries like the United States, Brazil, and the United Kingdom have significantly smaller populations but much higher death counts — 117,000, 46,000, and 42,000 respectively

Mexico virus cases, deaths continue high, reopening remote

Mexico virus cases, deaths continue high, reopening remote

...
MEXICO CITY (AP) — The planned next stage of reopening of businesses in Mexico appeared to be put off once again Friday, as new confirmed cases and deaths continued at near-record levels.

The Health Department reported 5,030 new confirmed coronavirus cases and 647 more deaths, both numbers down just slightly from Thursday.

The daily death toll has been hovering around 700 for much of this week, while the daily case load increase has hovered near 5,000. Mexico now has 170,485 confirmed cases and 20,394 deaths, though both numbers are considered undercounts due to extremely limited testing.
