I'm a CPA, so I am a #'s guy. One of my favorite courses in college was Statistics.

Anyways, the word of the day is Exponential. As in Exponential spread of the Coronavirus.

We're apparently a bit of a brain dead society, because our short term memories can't quite remember what happened roughly 95 Days ago. Someday this Extreme period of Stupidity will be written in history books, assuming books still exist.

Because you see, by the time the spread becomes noticeable, it's FAR too late. I fear that if we are not at that point already, we will be before month's end.

That is the HOLY S&*T moment, when we look at the spike and the #'s, and say, what are we gonna do now?

And the history books won't necessarily be filled with lots of countries where "Stupidity" reigned. That list will be relatively short, and will include places like Brazil, Mexico, India, UK, and of course, the United States.

Miami reports many hospitals at full capacity.
Miami Mayor (R) says they won't allow Trump to have a rally there. They're not allowing large crowds or large arenas to open yet.

Obviously a person who can put aside political allegiances for the sake of public safety, responsibly and good for all. What a concept. Good job, mayor.

He’s smart. I saw him talking the other day about the possibility of having to shut down Florida again, he said. He doesn’t want to have to do this but it may happen.

And next time round, for instance, our government will not be able to spend billions on furlough payments so people can pay their bills when their workplace closes. Businesses like my employer will not be able to get another low interest bank loan for a couple of million.

And not just with COVID, it’s us and them across the board. :(

Which I don’t get because I see no lines, all I see is this disease and human lives. It’s interesting though, from the academic standpoint of political science analysis, how views clearly, based on factors which have nothing to do with the virus, vary based on certain allegiances. Again, that’s why responsible advisement and setting a positive example of leadership is so important - many people look to this “leader” for guidance, and sadly, base their actions on what he does.

I’ll bring this VERY important post forward.

Thanks for this! I just read the entire story and it's well worth the time to read it, IMO.
Glad you like it !

My niece lives in Toronto, arrived 2 days ago and she is now visiting my sister (her mom) and her other sister in Virginia for three weeks. Why can't you see your American family?

I thought the borders were closed to all non-essential travel (although that hasn't stopped some pretending they're going to Alaska through Canada). Is she American and only in TO temporarily?

A very valid point, HKP. Already we see small independent businesses like cafes and shops closing in droves, as well as some long established high street names (RIP Oasis and Warehouse... sob..). If we have to lockdown again the problem is going to be massive. Families will become homeless, for sure, with no jobs and no bail outs.

This is why we had to get lockdown right the first time, and why sensible intelligent people are nervous about reopening. I can't wait to be able to go shopping, eat in restaurants, have nights out with friends.... but I WILL wait because I don't want to be part of the problem and I don't want to be exposed to those who don't care because they think the problem doesn't affect them.

There are some seriously thick people in this world. <mod snip>

I agree. Which is why I am pointing out how picking two "favourable" dates then declaring a 90% drop based solely on those two dates is not at all accurate.
Is that what the source did?

Have seen the phrase so many times since the start "We are all in this together" Now it seems to be "Us and Them"

It’s too bad because this has been stressed from the beginning, the absolute necessity and importance of fighting this virus as a team.

Yes. A random tweet hooraying a 90% drop. Not the posters fault, looked legit. Not everyone is a number nerd like me (or you!)

Here it is:

✔@ClayTravis Coronavirus deaths are down 90% since late April. This should be the number one story tomorrow for every national news show. Will any news station make it the number one story? I promise it will be the first thing I say on @outkick, but I bet I’m the only one. Here’s chart:

Your Niece is likely aware any Canadian returning has to quarantine 14 days. Too risky to visit. On May 29th my Husband had a heart attack. I hesitate putting it out for all but he us fine. That was hard. Off he went with EMS to our Hospital and then on to an excellent Teaching Hospital for a balloon and a stent. He is fine and doing excellent. My saving grace was our Adult Children work at our Hospital and were able to see him since I could not.Our Nurse Daughter was present when Dr's came in. It's far too risky as he is now in an even higher category. So facetime will have to work. Michigan is not doing so hot right now.

That was my understanding as well. Yet I heard of a couple who went over to visit her Mother in the U.S. So maybe it has relaxed for Family visits? I dunno

My employer (large healthcare system) just restored salary cuts and called back 30k furloughed staff.

Congratulations! Something I suspect we all agree is great news.

That’s another thing: how are indoor rallies not only protecting our people’s LIVES, but also the economy when you’re consciously contributing and creating the spreading of disease?
Makes Zero sense from an economical and financial aspect and helping to get businesses reopened and thriving as soon as possible.

You're right about that. But, no matter who likes it or not, we are in this together. Jmo

Hi y’all. I’ve so much to catch up on. I hope you are all happy as we can be.

As of Wednesday, the advisory applies to Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Washington, Utah and Texas. It begins tonight at midnight.

The announcement is a 180-degree flip from just a few months ago, when the tri-state area, and New York City in particular, was the epicenter of the pandemic.

200624113128-new-york-travel-restriction-chart-medium-plus-169.jpg
The 7-day moving average of new cases has declined in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
In late March, President Donald Trump considered placing the three states under a quarantine, Rhode Island police stopped vehicles with New York license plates, and Florida directed all travelers from the tri-state area to isolate or quarantine for two weeks.

Months of strict lockdown rules, widespread testing and imperfect attempts at contact tracing have brought cases under control in the tri-state area and the region. New cases are on the decline this past week compared to the week before in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

But now, states in the South and West are seeing what Dr. Anthony Fauci, a member of the White House coronavirus task force, called a "disturbing surge" in cases.
...
NY, NJ and CT require travelers from states with high coronavirus rates to quarantine for two weeks

This is such a good read. Wow. Best first person article on CoVid (by a nurse, which gives added perspective) and how it hit a whole family.

No one dies, it's not tragic - but it does illustrate just how difficult this disease is (and how mixed up the healthcare system is, in dealing with CoVid).
Thankx! I enjoy reading your posts. You contribute a lot of great information ;)
