Florida's virus managment is just soooo bad, erratic and makes many situation worse.

we start the Beach Buzzing again.... When SOME beaches close down, people just keep travelling to the other ones. So people who were travelling to towns in South Florida will just no-show their reservations and try to get to any beach they can find open....
then they gradually all shut down in total disarray.

Coronavirus Florida beaches closed, open for July 4 holiday

Exactly what happened for Spring Break, and now will happen for the 4th.

AND these frustrated people take it out on everyone around them.. Our bars are closed, but restaurants open.

I imagine things will be changing by the day....

Good question. I can only speak from my experience working for a major medical ctr. in Michigan. Our general ICU for adults runs at capacity most times. Such was the case last weekend. I was not full of Covid patients, just typical for our health system on any given day. The problem is when the hospital ICU is typically full and you get a COVID surge you have a problem. We dealt with this by adding more ICU beds, converting regular units to ICU. Perhaps the ICU is full in that Huston hospital but they are also able to add beds so it is not a crisis? These are my thoughts and opinions only. MOO
Thanks for the response. You cannot mix CV and regular patients in an ICU though right?

Thanks for your service.

Gov Abbott ordered bars closed (again) and for restaurants to limit capacity. That tells you what you need to know.

You could if you want everybody to become a covid patient.

I guess there is some benefit for a state to have no beaches. Never thought of that before. LOL.

Berkshires trending as top destination for Fourth of July weekend getaway
o_O
Now that states are implementing reopening plans, reservations at hotels and airbnbs are filling in for the holiday weekend.

Airbnb recently released datarevealing trending search destinations on its site, which included two New England destinations, the Berkshires in Western Massachusetts and coastal New Hampshire.

Massachusetts will require all travelers to quarantine except those from northeast states

Looks like 42 states are now "banned", Massachusetts requiring self-quarantine for 14 days.

All travelers arriving in Massachusetts, including residents returning to the state, will be required to self-quarantine for 14 days, Gov. Charlie Baker announced today.

The order goes in to effect tomorrow. It does not apply to travelers from these states:

  1. Rhode Island
  2. Connecticut
  3. New Jersey
  4. New York
  5. Vermont
  6. Maine
  7. New Hampshire
Essential workers also continue to be exempt. The announcement follows a similar quarantine announced by Rhode Island Monday along with New York, New Jersey and Connecticut which announced their own quarantine last week.

@tresir2012 Again to be clear only my experience from one hospital in Michigan. At the height of the pandemic, we had designated units and personnel. They did not combine. Now that we are down to so few covid patients, we do co-mingle. This is dependent on having enough PPE to safely do this. Also we are a major hospital, lots of experience with infectious disease and we have negative pressure rooms. But all of this is a delicate house of cards. It is not built for a surge and if we experienced a surge we would be scrambling again.

Just had a thought about schools opening in the Fall.

Will classes and all kids/adults quarantine at home for 14 days if a student or teacher in that classroom contract the virus? I mean, it is going to happen and probably on a frequent basis. I just don’t see how schools will be able to function with any regularity.

All fireworks shows cancelled in Bay Area

The skies are forecast to be clear in the Bay Area on Saturday, even in San Francisco that has a reputation for being socked in with fog on July 4.

Despite the fireworks-friendly forecast, there won't be any dazzling displays of color lighting up San Francisco Bay.

Fireworks shows across the region are cancelled to discourage large gatherings amid the coronavirus pandemic. None of the big annual shows at the Berkeley Marina, Marin County Fair, Sausalito waterfront and San Francisco's Aquatic Park will take place.

Small-town celebrations—including fireworks, parades and festivals—have also been cancelled.
..

i am sure i am not thinking this through completely... but fireworks can be seen from so far away... if they closed off a wide area NEAR the fireworks, there would be no real people clusters... and many would still enjoy....

Wanna know how they don't run out of capacity? They send home patients who are not dying. As long as there are enough health care workers to care for the sick in their homes, it will provide a relief to the hospitals and may have good outcomes for the patients.

Hospitals make room for coronavirus patients by trying to treat people at home

That would be good, except for the fact that most people's health plans won't cover home care. Though Medicare might, so if you are over 65, you might not have to file for bankruptcy.

Oh, like everything else, they will probably open, get their covid going, and close again. Like you said, if any student or teacher is diagnosed with covid, the rest will have to quarantine. How do you keep the school open if everybody has to quarantine for 2 weeks?

Major League Baseball is coming back — but spitting will be banned

As Major League Baseball gets ready to restart its season next month, the league is encouraging players to not socialize or come within six feet of each other during upcoming games. The league is banning spitting of any kind with chewing gum permitted as an alternative.

MLB said all personnel will be required to complete Covid-19 screening and testing before entering club facilities. Clubs can begin full workouts starting Friday with Opening Day games on either July 23 or 24.

The league has told all 30 clubs that they must submit coronavirus health and safety action plans for league approval. Clubs are also being told that they need to physically expand dugout and bullpen spaces at their respective ballparks.

“Players on opposite teams should not socialize, fraternize, or come within six feet of each other before the game, during warm-ups, in between innings, or after the game.”

New non-traditional rules will be in place when the season starts including the addition of a designated hitter in the National League and placing a runner on second base at the start of each teams’ extra-inning frame.

Good luck with all of that: i just don't see how this major sports are going to be sustainable in a pandemic. I just don't see it.

That's another good point. If your insurance doesn't cover "hospital in home care" you are going to end up with a pretty nice bill (if you make it). What this sounds like, is that they were sending people home that really should be in a hospital, because they didn't have room in a hospital for all the covid patients.

I was thinking the same thing. How will they have any continuity if they have to close and open with the cases? There must be a plan, right?
I am looking forward to hearing what our plan is here in Michigan today. Our governor is going to address back to school.

Boeing's biggest hit to orders yet: Norwegian cancels 97 jets - KEYT | KCOY

The larger economic impacts of CoVid will last a long time. These cancellations of big ticket items related to travel will continue. Along with cancelations of other orders for big ticket items. While local businesses hold our attention, these very large employers are having to downsize, perhaps for quite some time.

Just like Broadway, all sports should be postponed until next Spring.

I am asking @Yesiamapirate . After all, that error was repeated by many countries returning positive patients from hospitals to SNF and elderly care homes, as we already know.

The expected uptick in deaths in the US is beginning to take shape.

It's barely noon on the East Coast and we're already up to the rate we were at at end of day (Worldometer) three days ago (about 245 deaths).

Two days ago, the rate climbed by around 20% overnight to 285. Yesterday, it climbed to 346. Let's hope it goes back down.

It's too soon to see the impact of the rise in cases, but it's possible that some of the dead are people who were tested quite recently (or are presumed to have died of CoVid while at home, particularly if they had tested positive and were supposed to be self-quarantined).

Sadly, it will likely be over 400 today with California, Massachusetts, Florida, Arizona and Pennsylvania at the top of this unhappy list.

Before we all panic, those numbers merely send us back to the second week of June - and if we can plateau at this new level, that's still a kind of progress - although certainly the new case numbers mean that anyone who doesn't want to get CoVid must still do their best at self-protection.
@10ofRods.... You had provided another real-time Covid tool, yesterday or the day before. I meant to copy it...so could you provide again. I think it was something from NYT??
