I apologize, again, for the confusion. The long lines in economically challenged neighborhoods look, to me, like people desperate for help. I went off on a tangent mentioning some unsavory people that I know who have manipulated the system.

I understand

I have a daughter who is a social worker in Missouri, and her job is when people utilize the emergency room frequently for things that are not physical or psychiatric, she is called and works with them to find other resources to meet their needs, and maintains contact

I like that idea

It's higher than what most medical researchers would like - many recommend lockdowns (real ones) at 5% (1 in 20 people currently have CoVid).

I wouldn't be too paranoid about your Home Depot visit. But...if it's been 3 days since that visit and you're worrying about it, please make an appointment and go get tested. I don't know your age of course, but if you're over 50, do think about going to get tested. The initial immune response to CoVid is enough to protect most healthy young people. Viral load is a factor too and Home Depot is certainly not as infectious as a hospital ER or overflow CoVid unit - or a long term care facility.

The reason to get tested early is that most of us, even with comorbidities, can avoid pneumonia with early treatment. Also, it gives you a chance to think hard about who your doctor is and what happens next. You're in an area with really good hospitals and doctors.

Do you have an oximeter? (It's been such a help to my own anxiety - since I can see there's oxygen in my blood!) The people who just flop over from CoVid without prior symptoms have blood oxygen at 80% or lower (and didn't notice!)

BTW, the research seems to show that those same people (the asymptomatic ones who suddenly die) may share a rare gene on the 20th chromosome and many have other genes that are associated with higher risk from CoVid - not much any of us can do about that, but knowing your own average oxygen level and checking it in the morning can be helpful in knowing when to call the doctor.

12% means that it's possible that 1 in 8 or so people in OC are positive for CoVid. But, since it's still the case that people with symptoms are more likely to be tested, it could be lower. But this is why right now we all have to act as if every other person has CoVid, take proper measures, and try to protect ourselves.

  • White House chief of staff Mark Meadows on Monday backed President Donald Trump's false claim that "99%" of coronavirus cases are "totally harmless."
  • During his first interview since taking the role, Meadows told "Fox and Friends" that Trump was "right" to downplay the risks associated with the virus.
  • "The vast majority of people are safe from this," Meadows said.

No surprises there, right? A White House staff member publicly supporting the rhetoric?

And they already said yesterday that the president will be stepping back from the covid conversation.

Click on a few and read the reviews

thanks for the reminder
my hubby always tells me to read reviews and I usually forget
although it didn't help with the recent facemask delivery

And the CDC. You’re right. All credibility is lost after that, for many.

they screwed the pooch by i itially telling people we did not need masks and then
a few weeks later telling us we need to wear a mask--

I am already planning out my path tomorrow to go get my 2nd shingles vaccine at our lovely Walmart pharmacy...yikes...they have a drive up window..so my plan is to go to the drive up window, ask for the paperwork, use my own pen of course, fill it out, go back to the window drop it off and ask them to please give me a call while I wait in my car for them to get ready. Whew. I remember the first vaccine I sat there at the pharmacy (this was in Jan) for over 1/2 hour while they prepared the vaccine (something about getting it to room temp I believe)....of course I will be wearing my N95 w/cloth mask over it..but still...I always feel like I have to do so much prep work to lesson my odds.

In other news, my father is still in the hospital ...and I KNOW he is not there on VACATION MODE. He does not like being there...but all is okay so far. Siblings are up visiting him and will give us the report tonight. Thanks for all your kind words.

Oof, good luck with all of that! Somewhat OT but just so you can anticipate symptoms - hubby just had his second shingles shot, woke up with chill, headaches, and slept/was groggy for the next day and a half. So that's probably the shot, and not corona :) He didn't have any of that the first time. On the upside, his arm was excruciatingly painful for days the first time around, while this time it wasn't so bad.

Based on the latest data from Worldometers.info:

The 6 states that required/pushed nursing homes re-admit COVID-19 positive patients—New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and Michigan—account for 73,090 reported COVID-19 deaths. That’s a rate of 1,187 deaths per 1 million residents in those 6 states combined.

The other 44 states and the District of Columbia account for 57,326 reported COVID-19 deaths. That’s a rate of only 215 deaths per 1 million residents in those 44 states and DC combined.

The 6-state group of NY, NJ, CT, MA, PA, and MI, also accounts for 924,933 COVID-19 cases as reported by Worldometer. That’s a rate of 15,024 cases per 1 million residents in those 6 states combined.

The other 44 states and the District of Columbia account for 2,027,427 reported COVID-19 as reported by Worldometer. That’s a rate of only 7,602 cases per 1 million residents in those 44 states and DC combined, or about half the rate of cases in the 6-state group of NY, NJ, CT, MA, PA, and MI.

The Case Fatality Rate (number of deaths per reported cases---not the true infection fatality rate, which is much lower) across the combined 6-state group of NY, NJ, CT, MA, PA, and MI is 7.9%, nearly 3x the 2.8% Case Fatality Rate across the combined group of remaining 44 states and the District of Columbia.

The 6-state group of NY, NJ, CT, MA, PA, and MI is not only worse than the rest of the country by a wide wide margin with respect to total deaths per population, total cases per population, and Case Fatality Rate, it also still has a higher rate of active COVID-19 cases per population than the other states and DC combined according to the data in Worldometer. Those 6 states have a combined 439,404 active cases according to Worldomater. That's a rate of 7,137 active COVID-19 cases per 1 million of population in the 6-state group of NY, NJ, CT, MA, PA, and MI.

The other 44 states and the District of Columbia have a combined 1,112,643 active COVID-19 cases according to Worldometer. That's a rate of 4,172 active COVID-19 cases per 1 million of population in the those 44 states and the District of Columbia.

Data is as reported by Worldometer here as of approximately 5:30pm ET.

We got two off of Amazon, each with a 4 star or higher rating. They both read the same, and we definitely went for the cheaper ones (it took 2 months for one to arrive, though - so the second one was a bit more expensive and already in stock).

We spent $35 on that one, IIRC.

Yep, not looking forward to it...that's why I was waiting until after the weekend. The pharmacist was adamant about getting it over with sooner rather than coming in during flu season...(which is something we all should keep in mind) I wouldn't even get again if I didn't have a flare up (caught in time) of shingles a year ago...

Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms says she tested positive for coronavirus - CNNPolitics

She's young. Best to her. I really felt for her - how hard she tried to keep the numbers down in Atlanta, and then to see her anguish during the riots as she realized all of the destruction, including virus transmission.

ETA and snipped and bolded - from the article: She told MSNBC that she received the news that both she and her husband were positive on Monday. She said they decided to get tested because her husband was sleeping more than normal.

Half of Nevada's businesses failed to follow rules on masks, state investigators say

Nevada is among the states with the fastest rising rates of coronavirus infection, and state investigators have reported less than 50% of the businesses observed on July 2 complied with the governor’s order requiring face masks in public.

Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak has promised “swift and decisive” action this week against industries that continue to flout the rules.

In a statement released July 3, he reprimanded businesses that aren’t following social distancing and face covering guidelines.

“You’re not only jeopardizing people’s health, but you’re also jeopardizing your fellow businesses, your industry, and our overall economy,” Sisolak said.

Our businesses have all been notified by our liability insurance providers that if we are not complying with the Public Health recommendations, then our insurace will not provide coverage for any issues arising due to CoVid. (N. ON, Canada)

And not at all if he is taking one of the drugs he recommends. Also everyone gets tested around him. He is the most protected person in the world except for HM Queen Elizabeth IMO.

Dontcha mean that he 'could' be the most protected person in the world. Instead he triffles with CoVid.

Our NSW police spent 45 minutes searching for a hotel quarantine 'escapee' last night. They found her, and slapped her with a $1,000 fine.

She told them that she was just getting away to have a smoke (after breaking a tackle when security tried to physically stop her). Apparently she also damaged the sprinkler system in her hotel room.

But she told social media something else ..... (she is a known 'social media influencer').

“I am strong, but after facing months of confinement in Paris, I just want to run to the ocean, eat Sydney Thai (nothing beats it), and a huge plate of oysters."

She has now become the first person in mandatory quarantine in NSW to be issued a public infringement notice.

Well, that's just depressing. 9th in the world for deaths per million, too.

It's hard to fathom how we got here.:(

The Senate's oldest Republican, Chuck Grassley of Iowa, told local reporters that he won't attend the 2020 Republican National Convention because of coronavirus concerns. Grassley is 86 years old.

"I'm not going to go. And I'm not going to go because of the virus situation," Grassley said.

Grassley serves in the role of president pro tempore, which places him third in the line of presidential succession, after the vice president and House speaker.

Trump is set to accept the 2020 Republican presidential nomination in Jacksonville, Florida, at a venue that holds 15,000 people. Trump, who wants a full-scale convention, decided to change the location from Charlotte, North Carolina, after a dispute with the state's governor about social distancing guidelines.

Scientists warn COVID-19 is spread through air

Scientists warn COVID-19 is spread through air

Richard Wood

...
Hundreds of international scientists are urging the World Health Organisation to revise its guidelines about the airborne transmission of coronavirus.

In an open letter, 239 experts from 32 countries point to new research that shows an infected person exhales airborne virus droplets when breathing and talking that can travel further than the current 1.5m social distance requirement.

The research, from Queensland University of Technology, shows poor ventilation in public buildings, workplace environments, schools, hospitals, aged care homes, or activities such as singing, contribute to viral spread.
"Studies by the signatories and other scientists have demonstrated beyond any reasonable doubt that viruses are exhaled in microdroplets small enough to remain aloft in the air and pose a risk of exposure beyond 1m to 2m by an infected person," Professor Morawska said.

"At typical indoor air velocities, a five-micron droplet will travel tens of metres, much greater than the scale of a typical room while settling from a height of 1.5m above the floor."
