New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and Michigan—account for
73,090 reported COVID-19 deaths. That’s a rate of
1,187 deaths per 1 million residents in those 6 states combined.
The other 44 states and the District of Columbia account for
57,326 reported COVID-19 deaths. That’s a rate of only
215 deaths per 1 million residents in those 44 states and DC combined.
The 6-state group of
NY, NJ, CT, MA, PA, and MI, also accounts for
924,933 COVID-19 cases as reported by Worldometer. That’s a rate of
15,024 cases per 1 million residents in those 6 states combined.
The other 44 states and the District of Columbia account for
2,027,427 reported COVID-19 as reported by Worldometer. That’s a rate of only
7,602 cases per 1 million residents in those 44 states and DC combined, or about half the rate of cases in the 6-state group of
NY, NJ, CT, MA, PA, and MI.
The Case Fatality Rate (number of deaths per reported cases---not the true infection fatality rate, which is much lower) across the combined 6-state group of
NY, NJ, CT, MA, PA, and MI is
7.9%, nearly 3x the
2.8% Case Fatality Rate across the combined group of remaining 44 states and the District of Columbia.

The other 44 states and the District of Columbia have a combined 1,112,643 active COVID-19 cases according to Worldometer. That's a rate of
4,172 active COVID-19 cases per 1 million of population in the those 44 states and the District of Columbia.
