Due to the recent outbreak, our facilities will be closed until Monday, July 20th. Employees will be paid as normal under Mr. Griffin's quarantine order. This decision was made in consultation with the board. All athletic workouts will also be cancelled for this week as well. This order includes all employees.... transportation, maintenance, administration, custodians and office staff. When we return, schools will be sanitized as necessary.

This is the kind of finding we can expect to see, with so many people now recovered. This is very sobering and deserves to be read and posted a few times (but not necessarily here, I guess - I think most of us know that CV is a severe disease).

For 55% of the patients to have EKG abnormalities post-CoVid is troubling. I hope this was just during the most acute phase of the disease, but the damage to the ventricles is another matter.

For the record: HCQ induces EKG abnormalities in many, so it would be interesting to know how many of these patients received it, and certainly, people who develop EKG abnormalities due to CoVid should not be given HCQ, IMO.
This was valve damage seen on Echo, not just EKG abnormalities. I saw an interview with a cardiologist the other day talking about the troubling findings of elevated troponins, indicating heart damage, in covid patients as well.

This is a very worrisome development.:(

You have to realize the links of the billboards from Kansa, Florida, Louisiana and Michigan are from March and that is what was recommended at the time. They were not recommending wearing masks.

NJ signage, from the state that you claim is doing such a great job is more recent.

I'm perplexed by your defensiveness. I don't just "claim" NJ is "doing such a great job"--we actually are, relative to many other states.

Yes, the EKG abnormalities are transient (we hope) or could be.

The valve damage is altogether different and lasting. The elevated troponins are very scary, and I'm guessing we'll see those in a wide age range of patients - turning a previously healthy 40 year old into the equivalent of a 70 year old with heart disease - for life?

I wish the word could go out and that younger people could understand how much this could affect them. I know that many do understand, but we still see the Corona Parties.

I'm happy to see him out there, continuing to fight the good fight despite personal adversity. Good man, there. jmo

I'm listening and it's fascinating to hear him so competently cover so many topics and common questions.

The part about different platforms for vaccines is very encouraging.

I’m a realist and not defensive.

If having one of the highest death rates in the country and one of the highest percentage of cases per capita a good job, then I respectfully disagree.

Yes. It reminds me of polio. I tend to think of surviving a pandemic disease like this as surviving and going back to normal. But as with polio, that’s not always the case.

My uncle had polio. He limps to this day. Not the worst after effect imaginable but just that would be life changing for me because I wouldn’t be able to hike or bike or run.

Judge Hidalgo says COVID-19 patients make up 48% of Harris Co. ICU beds

"What we feared would happen is coming to pass," Hidalgo said.

At the end of May, COVID-19 patients made up 15% of Harris County ICU beds. Today, Hidalgo says COVID-19 patients make up 48%, and the number is continuing to rise.

Hidalgo says this data reflects Harris County's rising reports of people waiting for ICU beds, beds becoming more scarce and doctors and nurses being imported to the area to provide supplemental support.

"If it wasn't clear before, it's obvious now that having so much still open from restaurants, to all size indoor events, to water parks is not going to turn this thing around," Hidalgo warned.

Coronavirus warning from Italy: Effects of COVID-19 could be worse than first thought

The long-term effects of COVID-19, even on people who suffered a mild infection, could be far worse than was originally anticipated, according to researchers and doctors in northern Italy.

Psychosis, insomnia, kidney disease, spinal infections, strokes, chronic tiredness and mobility issues are being identified in former coronavirus patients in Lombardy, the worst-affected region in the country.

The doctors warn that some victims may never recover from the illness and that all age groups are vulnerable.

"At first, initially, we thought it was a bad flu, then we thought it was a bad flu with a very bad pneumonia, it was the phase when you came here, but subsequently we discovered that it is a systemic illness with vessel damage in the whole body with renal involvement, cerebral involvement," he told me in the now silent COVID-19 emergency room that was overwhelmed a few months ago.

"And also now we see a significant proportion of the population with chronic damage from the virus."

Doctors believe that even the youngest and mildest infected are at risk of their lives being changed forever, and it could take years to become apparent. Whole workforces could become less productive as a consequence.

The advice from Italy is simple: Don't get infected.

This is an evil virus--- it isn't something like a cold or flu, where you feel lousy for a week or two and then you are all better. This virus leaves permanent damage in many many people. It is out of a horror movie.

NY Gov. Cuomo orders travelers from states with high number of COVID-19 cases to provide location info

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Monday he is issuing an Emergency Health Order that will require that all travelers from states that are seeing spikes in COVID-19 cases provide a location form before leaving the airport, or face a summons and $2000 fine.

The order will be enforced in every airport in the state, and travelers will have to say where they have come from and where they are going. The forms will be distributed on planes before landing. "If you leave the airport without providing the information, in addition to a fine you can can be brought to a hearing and ordered to complete mandatory quarantine," Cuomo told reporters at a briefing.

Are they stopping cars coming in or just air travelers?

NYC Issues New Face Covering Guidance; Cuomo OKs School Reopening If Infections Low

New Yorkers should wear a mask or face covering indoors at all times, even at work and in large spaces regardless if social distancing can be met, de Blasio said Monday morning.

Although the city's key coronavirus indicators have looked favorable in recent weeks, Mayor de Blasio said infection rates in young adults is cause for concern. Infections are up in adults ages 20 to 29 even as other ages groups are experiencing mostly flat or declining rates of coronavirus infections.

Ten new coronavirus testing sites will open in the Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens, the mayor announced. Eight sites are already open and the last two will be open shortly, he said. Despite a growing access to free testing in the city, nationwide outbreaks have led to an overwhelming volume in testing and subsequent delay in lab results, de Blasio said.

During his daily briefing, the mayor called on President Trump again to deploy the Defense Product Act to mobilize resources to meet the demands of virus prevention and treatment in the county.

As of right now, it appears to be air travelers. This affects my daughter who lives in Florida and has a wedding to attend here next month. Oh well.

Those coming in by road with plates from any of the States that Cuomo mentioned could be subjected to being pulled over and fined, but the amount of vehicles and major arteries in this area it would be difficult to enforce. We drove from New Jersey to New York and into Massachusetts. I saw plates from Pennsylvania, so they won't stop you at the border or if driving through the States enroute to New England, but if you do decide, do not stop in NJ or NY or you could be fined and punished if they see your plates.

This is horrifying the damage and cost to our lives and economy. Imagine vast swathes of the US needing valve replacement surgery. Kidney damage. Lung damage. This is going to cost so much more long term than temporary economic gains. Is this just going to cripple the health of countless people? Imagine the healthcare costs?

Yeah. I think when all is said and done, the short-term economic pain from a prolonged shut down would have been minuscule compared to the inevitable long-term economic and healthcare costs of letting the pandemic run out of control like it has. I don't think we made the right choice. jmo
