It is still my opinion that the EVALI vaping illness, last year was the precursor to COVID,

Kentucky Bar Defies Mask Order: 'We Are Americans—We're Going to Do What We Want'

https://www.newsweek.com/kentucky-b...cinBVSu6m8TIpW88L7SM3vNwCo#Echobox=1594722845

I think it's official. Christopher Lasch was right. There are a significant number of pathologically narcissistic Americans who think what they want to do = Freedom!

I'd usually say that the Founding Fathers must be turning in their graves, but this time I think it's all the WW2 veterans, and others who put their actual lives on the line for this nation - only to be told that selfishness is the American way. That's not how they rolled.

I think we all know this going back to school is not going to work. Just waiting until it explodes.
It’s not going to work, IMO
This is just a way to get people back to work and the almighty dollar comes first.

It makes me so sad and worried for you all in the U.S. I'm in Canada.
I agree, I feel sad and very worried for all the US folks too. I really worry for my elderly next door summer neighbours who can’t come up through the border from Texas....My other neighbours who have a veterinarian son in Washington....another friend with a grand daughter in Florida....and other local friends who have all three young adult children in California and yet another summer neighbour from Calgary Canada whose only daughter had to relocate to Texas with her four small children when Calgary oilfield production was on a downturn and her husband was transferred to Houston. We are such a conjoined two countries and it just seems so strange to have the border closed. It’s for a good reason, however and if it saves lives it’s necessary but still truly sad.

Which activities are at a higher risk for contracting COVID-19?

I wonder where, say, attending an 8th race class falls.

WHY????Coronavirus Live Updates: Trump Administration Walks Back Rule That Would Have Stripped Some Foreign Student Visas
The administration orders hospitals to bypass the C.D.C. with key virus data, alarming health experts.
The Trump administration has ordered hospitals to bypass the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and, beginning on Wednesday, send all coronavirus patient information to a central database in Washington — a move that has alarmed public health experts who fear the data will be distorted for political gain.

The new instructions are contained in a little-noticed document posted this week on the Department of Health and Human Services’ website, Sheryl Gay Stolberg reports. From now on, H.H.S., and not the C.D.C., will collect daily reports about the patients that each hospital is treating, how many beds and ventilators are available, and other information vital to tracking the pandemic.

This absolutely boggles the mind! I don't understand why they chose to do this. I mean, I read the 'streamlining' reason but it seems like a step back in transparency and more sidelining of the CDC and Fauci, which doesn't bode well. The database will no longer be accessible to the public, which is of MAJOR concern. JMO, of course.

This is actually pretty big news and it was slipped into a memo.

HHS confirms coronavirus hospital data will now be sent to DC instead of CDC - CNNPolitics

Hospital data on coronavirus patients will now be rerouted to the Trump administration instead of first being sent to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Department of Health and Human Services confirmed to CNN on Tuesday.

Michael Caputo, the assistant secretary for public affairs at the department, confirmed the change first reported by The New York Times earlier in the day, saying in a statement that the "new faster and complete data system is what our nation needs to defeat the coronavirus and the CDC, an operating division of HHS, will certainly participate in this streamlined all-of-government response. They will simply no longer control it."

"The CDC's old hospital data gathering operation once worked well monitoring hospital information across the country, but it's an inadequate system today," Caputo said in the statement.

The Times said hospitals are to begin reporting the data to HHS on Wednesday, noting also that the "database that will receive new information is not open to the public, which could affect the work of scores of researchers, modelers and health officials who rely on C.D.C. data to make projections and crucial decisions."

Bolded and underlined part by me.

Yes, at least several of us have thought that Trudeau is just going to keep rolling the border closure over for 30 days, and then 30 more days, and then 30 more days ...... until the US gets this virus under control.
Yep I’m in British Columbia and from what Bonnie Henry says it could be a long time before it opens . I wish it extended to flights airlines need more accountability. . I really hope the us numbers go down soon .

My mum and dad planned to visit my sister (lives in Staten Island) in October when she is due to give birth, but things are steadily getting more hairy in terms of international travel to and from the US. I suspect that the trip will have to be cancelled, which will put us out of pocket, but safety first. It's just sad, though, because they wanted to meet the grandchild and help during those first crucial weeks post delivery.

Hello neighbour. I’m in BC too...and yes in today’s briefing Dr. Bonnie Henry certainly did indicate that she’s in no hurry to see the border reopen. She has been involved in other disease outbreaks in the world and I found it interesting that she admitted during question period that she had not at the beginning ever expected this one to become so out of control. In additional news yesterday, I think coming out of eastern Canada, plans were being made for extra security/ scrutiny at the border.

Unbelievable. Actually, totally believable. Let's hope the hospitals do the right thing. I wonder if the press can force access to the raw data through FOIA and some lawsuits. Always support a free press - even if you don't choose to get info from certain outlets. JMO.

I hope that the media and the legals can do something. This is so not right.
Does that mean that John Hopkins, the worldodometer, and other tallying parties will not receive accurate figures? If they receive any data at all.

I'm trying to figure out what's so wrong with HHS getting this information before the CDC.

Alabama:

Alabama sees record 40 deaths, another 1,673 COVID-19 cases Tuesday

“MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - Alabama hit a grim milestone Tuesday with 40 COVID-19 deaths, a record for the most in a single day. The state now reports 1,136 COVID-19 deaths with 28 more cases that are probable.

Alabama also added 1,673 new cases, bringing the total to almost 56,500. The state has more than doubled the number of cases of the respiratory illness over the last month and the last two weeks have brought more than 17,000 of those, according to the Alabama Department of Public Health.”

[...]

“Williamson has warned the healthcare system cannot support the sustained increase of COVID-19 patients for long.”

—-

"I do think we are beginning now to see the effect of the 4th of July on cases, so I'm not at all surprised to see those number continue to rise over the next several days," says Williamson.

On the other hand, he says he's not sure if we're yet seeing the effect of the 4th of July on hospitalizations, and says those are likely to rise this week or next week.

His biggest concern is the spike in cases and hospitalizations with school around the corner.

“As we approach the gathering of children in August, in k12 and in our colleges, I think we set ourselves up for what could be a potential disaster,” he says.“

A school district in Missouri is requiring parents to sign a waiver in case children who participate in sports or other activities become infected with COVID-19 and die.

The “waiver of liability” from Hazelwood School District was shared on Tuesday by attorney Natasha Scruggs.

“I feel sick reading it,” Scruggs said.

The document asks parents to acknowledge that COVID-19 is a public health crisis and to relinquish their rights to hold the district responsible even if a student’s death is “caused by the negligence of carelessness” of school staff.
