What type of country are we?
No concentration on the big problem that is on everyone's mind and agenda: the virus.
Not taking national level control of a major national health issue.
Attempting to send our youth into a high risk situations. No juries. No funerals. Bars and churches (some areas) closed. Major sports events w/o fans. Schools, however, are told to reopen, endangering both youth and teachers.
Holding rallies and events, endangering lives.
Attempting to take away health care during a major health crisis.
Attempting to withhold from the public pandemic statistics.
Not listening to scientists who have for years studied and focused on health information.
Very well said - today there was a school board meeting and all the board members did it remotely and voted to send the children to school - yet they won’t be in the same room with each other now - can this really be happening ? Yep as I said we are doomed

Does anyone have a link for some good news? Please. There has to be some out there
somewhere.
I live in Florida - wish I could help you out ...I got nothing

I prefer to trust those that don't make comments such as this comment made by Azar on July 7th.

AZAR: “We have health care workers, they don’t get infected because they take appropriate precautions.”
But tens of thousands of health care workers have been infected and hundreds have died.
Source: Azar Lies: Health Care Workers Don’t Get Infected - Democrats
Anyone that makes a comment/traffics in such misinformation like the one above (and so recently) doesn't have much creditibility.
We are so screwed.

I was being a tiny bit facetious. DH and I did have dinner (outside) in Delaware back in June and I have to say, pretty much everyone was wearing a mask - workers and customers in the restaurant, as well as people passing by. We have not ventured into Philly in quite a while, but PA seems mostly on track with NJ with masks and shutdowns, etc. So we would not be averse to going there for dinner maybe.

One place I do go weekly is to my little beach house. Ocean air is beneficial in normal circumstances, so I'm breathing it in deeply these summer months. I have to say, it's about 10 degrees cooler here than at home on the western side of NJ, too. And this little town on the southern end of the Jersey Shore feels safe to me. The beach is large and people distance themselves. When the tide is out, the beach is even bigger and there is a sandbar about 20 yards out. It's cool to be standing so far out in the Atlantic and the water is barely at your ankles. People are wearing masks in places they should be.

Sounds lovely. I agree about ocean air and we are going to take a drive along the ocean tomorrow, cautiously.

Yes! It is insanity. 30 members of my states’s legislator and 11 support staff have tested positive without fully finalizing the education budget. Asked yesterday in his semi-frequent social media live sessions if/when he would bring them back in to sort out the education budget, Tate Reeves said he wasn’t pushing them back any time soon because public health trumps everything.

In the next sentence he is talking about bringing children back to school in early August! What happened to public health? Crazy

Edit to add: He also refuses to mandate state wide mask orders.

Reeves remains adamant against statewide mask mandate

That's what it says. You may only access the data with authorization from HHS.
Hmm. Haven’t heard from Anonymous for a while. Maybe we will soon.

We don’t have a real public health plan IMO and I am a fan of states autonomy etc but when it comes to the entire country being threatened there needs to be a United States health plan IMO

Your country will win. I have no doubt. What I see is that Aussies are offensive and proactive in the fight against this virus, while the US is only being defensive at best and keeps retreating in defeat.

I feel hopeless. I started to feel this hopelessness a few days ago. It is the worst feeling. I'd rather feel anger or hatred even.
Even our defense sucks.

I was just thinking the same thing today. He/she had stated that he/she would make an appearance or give more information before the election as I recall.

As I said, we the electorate put them and their administrations in charge, now we have to let them complete the task at hand. Plenty of time for recriminations in the future IMO. I think both countries have come up with exceptional funding to help the public and businesses while devoting resources to the health services. Each country has it's own challenges to overcome. Constant attacking policy or personalities is not going to help anything while we are still fighting the pandemic. Purely MOO.

Sure, I'll accept that for now, despite ample evidence that our folks aren't thinking about us and what we need. And no one is attacking personalities, only policies. I suppose it's possible that a bad personality could lend itself to bad policy, but I don't make that claim.

If remdesevir access is used as coercion for hospitals to submit data only to the private contractor (and shame on us if we don't anticipate that after all the ugly PPE battles we saw in March & April and all the school funding threats), I'll take that acceptance back. If not, I'll gladly admit that I am a cynical old prune. In fact, I'll admit it anyway right now because I definitely am :)

I literally have no idea if this is for real or not.

Hebrew U. scientist: Drug could eradicate COVID-19 from lungs in days

The team then reviewed a panel of eight already-approved drugs that could possibly interfere with the virus’s ability to reproduce. Tricor caused the cells to start burning fat, Nahmias said. The result was that the virus almost completely disappeared within only five days of treatment.

Fingers crossed that it's legit. That would be fabulous news if an already FDA approved drug like Tricor can do what they claim!

I’m watching local school board meeting live streaming. My gosh, they have to come up with completely new policies on everything, including how to handle a kid needing to use the restroom. Temperature checks when kids get on the bus and again when they arrive at school. Masks, obviously. Trying to figure out how to distance in between class periods when normally all spill out into the hallway. No more lockers. Lunch is grab and go. Will continue to feed the kids whose parents refuse to send them. Teachers very concerned about safety and sanitation...

Wrt Tricor and fat cells. I wonder if individuals with really low body fat index are less susceptible, if the obese are more.
