Arizona man in a coma from coronavirus woke up paralyzed

The virus sent him into a medically induced coma. And when he woke up, he was paralyzed.

Eddie Case and his wife were sick. But they said they had a hard time accessing a test because they had not travelled and did not know anyone who had tested positive. When his symptoms progressed, they went to the hospital.

He was transferred to a different hospital, put on a ventilator and then put in a medically induced coma for 20 days.

By the time he woke up and she saw him again, he had lost so much weight he was barely recognizable.

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp Bans Cities, Counties from Requiring Masks

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp issued an executive order overruling mask mandates put in place by local governments in the state to mitigate the spread of coronavirus, calling such rules “unenforceable.”

Kemp’s order, which extended the state’s COVID-19 restrictions through July 31, prohibits local municipalities from enforcing mandatory mask orders that are more restrictive than his statewide order that only encourages face coverings, effectively voiding orders issued by at least 15 local governments across the state.

Coronavirus updates: Georgia bans cities and counties from requiring masks

5:42 a.m..: Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp bans local mask rules
Georgia Republican Gov. Brian Kemp issued an executive order Wednesday night, which outright banned cities and counties in the state from issuing mask orders to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

The move, despite neighboring states like Alabama requiring masks in public, voided mask mandates in 15 local jurisdictions in the Peach State where they had been implemented.

While outlawing mask mandates, Kemp's executive order "strongly" encourages all residents and visitors in Georgia to "wear face coverings as practicable while outside their homes or place of residence, except when editing, drinking or exercising outdoors."

I'm sorry things are getting a bit sideways for you in Oz, SA. I was hoping guys would be able to keep your cases suppressed and not have to go back into lockdown or border closures

where SA lives is fine, its got no or very little cases

its the city where i live that is having the outbreaks right now, basically the rest of the country is heading somewhat back to normal

NSW is having some spot fires as well, there is some talk where i live in melbourne might be heading for even stricter restrictions soon " stage 4"

so we'll see i just want this virus to go away :(

right now we can only leave our homes for 4 reasons

food
medicine or health
work/study if it can't be done at home
exercise

I know it sucks. Know that these sacrifices and measures are imperative as you put these fires out, so you guys don’t become like us. Hang in there, we’re rooting for you guys Down Under.

I'm hung up on data, it was my life for years.

Teletracking is a widely used programs by hospitals. The data being requested is only concerning inpatient status ONLY. Using Teletracking should make reporting extremely easy, its compatible with exsisting operating systems hospitals use.

Moo... The more I read from healthcare institutions the more assurance I find, the change is designed to better respond to hospital needs.

....the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) today asked hospitals to prioritize the reporting of seven data fields starting tomorrow, July 15:

  • Previous day's new adult admissions for confirmed COVID-19
  • Previous day's new adult admissions for suspected COVID-19
  • Total adults hospitalized for COVID - suspected and confirmed
  • Total hospitalized for COVID - confirmed only
  • Total adults in ICU with COVID - suspected and confirmed
  • Total adults in ICU with COVID - confirmed
  • Remdesivir doses (field will be available by July 15)
HHS Asks Hospitals to Prioritize Certain Data Fields in COVID-19 Daily Reporting Starting Tomorrow, July 15 | AHA

I've been away from the thread and not following as will as before.

Where is this information you show is collected through HHS available to look at by us? Do you or does anyone have a link?

Thanks!

Thanks appreciate it, our prime minister is kinda like Trump a little bit in that he seems to only care about the economy

melbourne where i live re-opened about 5 weeks a go thinking they had " beat" the virus but everyone could see it was way too early to loosen restrictions and guess what happened! we've now got an outbreak that is much larger than the 1 wave we had

so i totally understand, its very annoying a lot of these countries only care about money and are putting lives at risk to re-open too quickly, which happened in the USA as well

so i am praying for all my USA friends and you guys here in websleuths that something helps to diminish cases for you guys

Florida Governor touts questionable research

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis applauded positive results from antibody testing, calling it a "good sign." But scientists disagree. Antibody tests determine whether a person had Covid-19 in the past, after the infection's cleared. "That creates resistance in terms of the ability for the disease to spread," DeSantis said at a press conference.

However, researchers including the WHO have repeatedly said there's no evidence to show that prior infection and developing antibodies make someone immune to future infection.

Last week, a Spain government study suggested that coronavirus antibodies wane after a few weeks. A smaller British study released prior to peer review suggests antibody response may start to decline within a month.

And the CDC has echoed a similar sentiment. "We do not know how much protection the antibodies may provide or how long this protection may last," it says on its website.

Oh God....I thought this was crystal clear we shouldn’t be relying on this. This is false information and security.

No, it’s not a “good sign”. Recent studies have shown the exact opposite, as this article states.

This is DANGEROUS to say this. People are going to believe this crap and think they’re immune. Gah!

All efforts need to be made to publicly correct this misinformation. This could cost lives. A lot of them. Damnit.

Higher death toll expected

Thousands more Americans will die from the virus before a vaccine is developed, an influential model says. The model from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington is projecting 224,000 people will die from the virus by November 1 -- an increase of almost 16,000 from the week before.

That jump is due to skyrocketing cases around the country, particularly in Florida, Texas, Arizona, California, Louisiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, Nevada, New Mexico, South Carolina, Tennessee and Utah, said Dr. Chris Murray, chair of the IHME.

Germ killing technology installed at local bingo hall

Valley Street Bingo volunteers are sanitizing, social distancing and wearing masks.

Wednesday they took protecting their players one step further by installing a Total Air and Surface Purification System that reduces germs, bacteria and viruses.

“We hope it gives them some more comfort,” said Roach.

Extreme Microbial Technology of Centerville designed the system.

It works by using a combo of energy and hydrogen peroxide gas to attack microbes, reducing them by 99-percent.

“What we’re doing is effective and is safe,” said Berryessa.

Berryessa wants to help people live their lives and feels this technology can help do that.

“I think this gives us more latitude to do things, and that’s certainly one of the messages that we’ve been trying to send,” said Berryessa.

I'm beginning to see the Governors reasoning.

Our Virginia governor issued a mask mandate to be enforced by each business. He instructs each business to council and educate the customer, otherwise ask them to leave the property and have charged with trespassing. He now has teams of inspectors going out to restaurants only and threatening to revoke business licenses, of folks don't wear a mask but not retail stores. Our beaches where the massive increases are accusing are wide open for business and packed.

The problem, it's a mandate without law. Local police are stating they can't enforce without a law or statue to charge the person under for not having a mask. Businesses are concerned with charging folks for trespassing on their property and threats of being sued for discrimination and negative media ruining their business.

Mask mandates need to become law, enforceable by LE or its just a point of argument for enforcement. It takes the State legislature to pass a law and most of those folks aren't interested in gathering for assembly anytime soon.

It's just a mess....Moo.

So pleased that now many major franchises are saying they will do such on their own.... Best Buy, Sams, WalMart etc etc.

It may be unenforceable, but it's a start. It's a start. To send a message.

It's just horrific that there is not a cohesive plan and such divisiveness in the middle of a pandemic. The countries that are doing best are those that have leaders who lead, those third world who know what to do, or those like China who have no choice but to do such. Then, we see the outliers.

Thank GAWD that many see through to the science.

I remember way back in the early threads, I stated here that I wasn't even looking at MSM reports. I was only looking at science.

I'll say no more for now.

Memo: RNC to limit public attendance for first three days in Jacksonville

A memo released Thursday by the 2020 Jacksonville Host Committee says the first three days of the Republican National Convention in Jacksonville will be limited to regular delegates only.

The memo says that on the final day, when President Donald Trump accepts the Republican nomination, a delegate, their guest and alternate delegates will be allowed to attend.

Well, that is messed up. I checked Victoria's powers today, to see what happens if their Chief Health Officer mandates wearing a mask (he is saying he may do that, if everyone doesn't comply). He has the power to bring enforceable rules if it is a matter of public health safety.

He can also make them take a test, if he feels they have contracted the virus or have been exposed to the virus. Again, a matter of public health safety.

My state has just instituted the mandatory test. $1,000 fine if you, specifically, don't have the test when you are asked to do so.

Someone in my town found an old ordinance that makes wearing any type of mask illegal in my town. It's still on the books. It will take the council meeting and repealing it to get rid of it. There is literally nothing the police can do if we get a mask mandate, as it isn't a law. Other than suggest to mask up, please. They're ignoring the old ordinance for now. Jmo

Jobless claims: Another 1.3 million Americans filed for unemployment benefits last week

At 1.3 million, the level of new claims dropped for a fifteenth straight week, with a steady recovery from the late March peak of 6.867 million new claims still under way. The previous week’s new jobless claims were revised down by 4,000 to 1.31 million.

Over the past four months, more than 51 million Americans have filed new unemployment claims.

I know admission, ICU beds, ventilators in use are included for Virginia VHHA website. I don't remember seeing national data from hospitals in the new specific requirements.

I think most of the data will be available with maybe an exception for how much Remdesivir is on hand by hospital.

I’d like to see the reports on this, with specific testing on Covid-19.

Eta: @Tillicum, of course if it really does work specifically against Covid-19, it would be a God Send. I hope it really works because if so, this technology can be implemented in so many places, schools...It could literally be a lifesaver and HUGE help.
—-

Eta2: There’s a post which makes me ask specifically about this being tested on Covid. It reminded me of something a nurse said:

@Tillicum, the BBM part made me think about specific testing on Covid-19, and not just general to all virus and microbes / it’s a different situation of course, but the implication is the same:

Hospitals struggle with PPE shortages amid new COVID-19 surges
July 10

“More than four months into the COVID-19 crisis, hospitals are continuing to struggle to find enough personal protective equipment (PPE) for front-line healthcare workers.

Particularly in the wake of new spikes in cases reported in states across the country, the ongoing shortage of PPE has pushed facilities to rely on the once unheard-of practice of reusing equipment—officially known as reprocessing—in order to shore up supplies. “

[...]

“While hospitals have acknowledged the practice isn't ideal, it's the best and most acceptable option in the midst of a crisis that has put the supply chain for PPE under unprecedented strain.“

[...]

“A number of groups representing front-line healthcare workers are concerned about the safety risks it poses.“

[...]

“National Nurses United said that many of the decontamination methods used by systems haven’t been tested against COVID-19.”

[...]

“Things may not get better for hospital systems as the fight against COVID-19 continues.

Hospitals are continuing to stock up to prepare for a potential second surge in the fall, and cases are continuing to rise in major hot spots as hospital capacity fills up.”
