Coronavirus hospital data removed from CDC website following Trump plan to reroute information

Following the Trump administration’s decision to reroute coronavirus hospital data first to the administration, instead of sending it to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, some data is no longer available on the CDC.gov website.

The information removed from the website is the hospital data that was reported to the CDC’s National Healthcare Safety Network, according to CDC spokesperson Kristen Nordlund.

The data includes...
  • the current inpatient and intensive care unit bed occupancy
  • Health care worker staffing
  • Personal protective equipment supply status and availability
The information appeared on the National Healthcare Safety Network Covid-19 module page and the CDC’s Covid-19 data tracker.

Those are very strong and very scary words.

You know what’s wild? I used to say here, “what’s it going to take for some people to wake up? When we become the next Wuhan? Overwhelmed hospitals and bodies piled up? Well, here we are and some people STILL haven’t woken up. Maybe they never will.

Wow, PPE data, etc. too...

Well, reports or not, infinite medical workers have told us what their staffing and PPE situation is. And I anticipate they will continue to do so.

I wasn't talking about the doctors, nurses, and scientists. I was talking about the politicians which is what your post was about. MOO.
I was talking about policy and funding and I mentioned businesses and the health service. Funding comes from the government in power. I was not just talking about politicians but the whole process required to fight this pandemic.

Specifically from my post that you disagreed with.

"I think both countries have come up with exceptional funding to help the public and businesses while devoting resources to the health services. Each country has it's own challenges to overcome. Constant attacking policy or personalities is not going to help"

But it's fine if you disagree they have not done enough. I believe there have been failings, and have stated such.

I heard on the radio this am that NASCAR held a race-
Chase Elliott lands first NASCAR All-Star Race victory | NASCAR
Elliott’s win was hugely popular even to the limited number of fans who were allowed to attend the race in person, and they celebrated by showering the 24-year-old with cheers.
--
I heard on the radio it was 30,000 fans??? But haven't seen that number in MSM

Charlotte Motor Speedway. The facility, which holds over 140,000, offered 30,000 tickets so there'd be room for social distancing, but The Associated Press reported that attendance was approximately 20,000.

Here's a picture of the fans social distancing in the stands:

Charlotte Motor Speedway. NASCAR shifted to the half-mile Tennessee track because the state allowed it to have fans in attendance.

thank you - I've been to a a few races and couldn't picture how this could be safe for anyone. At least they seem apart.

It concerns me greatly that this post states "if" kids can spread this. MOO and science says yes, they can and do with the same viral load at outset of the disease. I haven't seen folks posting here that kids can't spread the virus.

My business partner and another attorney in my office both told me on Tuesday that this can’t be spread by kids. They said that’s proven by all the european countries whose schools have opened back up and yet it hasn’t spread d to the openings.

It all sounds wrong to me but I didn’t know if there was some study out?

Maybe they’re taking articles like the following and running with them (exaggerating):

School openings across globe suggest ways to keep coronavirus at bay, despite outbreaks

Russian hackers seeking to steal COVID-19 vaccine data: intel agencies - CityNews Toronto
''Canadian, British and U.S. security services say hackers they believe are working for Russian intelligence have been trying to steal research on COVID-19 vaccines from organizations in all three countries and around the world.

Canada’s Communications Security Establishment says the malicious cyberactivities were very likely undertaken to pilfer information and intellectual property relating to the development and testing of vaccines for the novel coronavirus.

The cyberspy agency says the clandestine activity is hindering response efforts at a time when health-care experts and medical researchers need every available resource to help fight the pandemic.''

thank you - I've been to a a few races and couldn't picture how this could be safe for anyone. At least they seem apart.

I've been to a few races in Dover and Watkins Glen, nice to see that at least 20,000 fans got to enjoy the race and it didn't swell into the 30,000 range as most people did opt to stay home. I see many in the stands wearing masks too.

It is a strange dynamic that I am hearing. The other Aussie states are so afraid of the virus that we won't open our borders to Victoria or New South Wales. The NSW Premier was asking Queensland to open its border to them for a while. She gave up because the Qld Premier kept saying no.

Then once the Qld Premier felt things were safer in NSW, she opened the border to NSW.

Are strict border controls between States in Australia common? During an outbreak of some kind of plant or insect infestation I recall being questioned at the California border, but otherwise our border crossings consist of big signs saying "Welcome to the <insert slogan> State!"

White House tells hospitals to bypass CDC on COVID-19 data reporting

Hospitals will begin sending coronavirus-related information directly to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), not the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), under new instructions from the Trump administration.

The move will take effect on Wednesday, according to a new guidance and FAQ document for hospitals and clinical labs quietly posted on the HHS website.

Previously, hospitals reported to the CDC's National Healthcare Safety Network, which the agency describes as the nation’s most widely used health care-associated infection tracking system.

Beginning Wednesday, hospitals will report the same data but will bypass the CDC and send it to HHS directly.

Florida sees another coronavirus fatality record of 156 as nearly 14,000 new cases added

Florida’s Department of Health on Thursday confirmed 13,965 new cases of COVID-19, the second highest single-day total recorded in the state since the pandemic began in March. The state now has a total of 315,775 confirmed cases.

There were also 156 new Florida resident deaths announced, bringing the statewide resident death toll to 4,677.

Domestic competitive live sport in the UK returned on 1 June for the first time since lockdown measures were introduced in mid-March.

Encouraging early results from clinical trials have raised hopes for an effective coronavirus vaccine.

Studies in the US and UK suggest several experimental vaccines produce a good immune response in volunteers without serious side-effects.

Nearly two dozen coronavirus vaccines are in clinical trials while another 140 are in early development.

But some scientists are calling for volunteers to be exposed to the virus to accelerate research.

The Chinese authorities are investigating why a number of people with links to the city of Urumqi in China’s northwestern Xinjiang province have suddenly tested positive for Covid-19.

According to the official broadcaster CCTV, a 24-year-old woman was admitted to hospital in the city on 10 July with a sore throat. By 14 July, she was feverish and had a headache, and tested positive for Covid-19 the following day.

Three of her close contacts in the region have also tested positive and placed in isolation, however they don’t have symptoms. Separately, a 50-year-old man from Urumqi, who flew to Shaoxing in the eastern province of Zhejiang on 10 July, has tested positive for Covid-19. He also has no symptoms.

Official media says the authorities are currently trying to determine how these people might have contracted the virus. No details have been given to indicate any made any notable travel movements that might have placed them in close contact with the virus.

'No reason to change UK working from home guidance'

    Getty ImagesCopyright: Getty Images
The UK's chief scientific adviser, Sir Patrick Vallance, has said he thinks there is no reason to change the government's advice on working from home.

Speaking this afternoon to the Commons Science and Technology Committee, Sir Patrick said current social distancing measures were "important" and that working from home remained "a perfectly good option".

He added he did not think working from home was detrimental to productivity and finished by saying he saw "no reason to change it."

It comes amid reports Prime Minister Boris Johnson is set to scrap home working guidance during a press conference on Friday, in a bid to encourage people back into offices and further open up the economy.

Outcome of pandemic 'has not been good', UK chief scientific adviser says

    EPACopyright: EPA
The outcome of the coronavirus pandemic in the UK "has not been good", the government's chief scientific adviser has said.

Sir Patrick Vallance told the Science and Technology Committee there will be "many factors" that determine how well countries respond to the outbreak.

He said: "As (England's chief medical officer) Chris Whitty has said before, it's very difficult to know where we stand at the moment.

"It's clear that the outcome has not been good in the UK - I think you can be absolutely clear about that.

"It is clear you can see a band of countries that have done less well in the temperate zone.

"Countries that are very well connected internationally, countries that have got population structures of a certain type.

"There are many factors that are going to play in this as we look and say, 'what is it that makes some countries having done worse than others?', and there will be decisions made that will turn out not to have been the right decisions at the time."

He also said it would have been "absolutely preferable" to have much greater testing capacity earlier in the pandemic.

    More at link.

Gov. Hogan Discourages Marylanders From Traveling Out-Of-State

“We’re also advising that Marylanders refrain from traveling to areas that are experiencing rapidly escalating numbers,” Hogan said. “Any Marylander who is traveling to or is returning from travel out-of-state, especially from those states that are experiencing spiking numbers, should get tested.”

When reached for comment Thursday, HHS spokesman Michael Caputo said in a statement that the CDC was directed to make the data available again. In the future, he said, HHS will provide "more powerful insights."

"Yes, HHS is committed to being transparent with the American public about the information it is collecting on the coronavirus," he said. "Therefore, HHS has directed CDC to re-establish the coronavirus dashboards it withdrew from the public on Wednesday."

Coronavirus data has already disappeared after Trump administration shifted control from CDC

—————-
There were some disappointed fans in the viewing area when it was announced that the All-Star race was being moved from its traditional spot at Charlotte Motor Speedway this year to Bristol.
(The track is actually located in Concord, NC)

How NASCAR’s All-Star Race at Bristol became the first big test of U.S. fans returning to sports venues

“The 2020 NASCAR All-Star Race last month was moved from its traditional location at Charlotte Motor Speedway to Bristol in part because Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee and Sullivan County officials agreed to allow so many fans at the facility.”

Someone in my town found an old ordinance that makes wearing any type of mask illegal in my town. It's still on the books. It will take the council meeting and repealing it to get rid of it. There is literally nothing the police can do if we get a mask mandate, as it isn't a law. Other than suggest to mask up, please. They're ignoring the old ordinance for now. Jmo

Interesting how the various "mask" laws already on the books in certain states are being discovered now, laws that were passed for different reasons and contexts, certainly other than a pandemic. I heard something on the radio yesterday about concealed carry in Ohio, and people who have a permit for concealed carry were asking for clear guidance from the Governor's office on whether or not they can wear masks while practicing concealed carry, so I am assuming that there are laws on the books in Ohio about not wearing masks in the event of concealed carry. So the Governor's office, or perhaps it was the AG's office, provided guidance that they can wear masks.

They've been around since 2016 so well before COVID. During a world pandemic don't we want as many germ killing companies as we can get?

Effective Virus and Bacteria Protection for Indoor Environments - Extreme Microbial Technologies

Dayton based Extreme Microbial Technologies was formed to help protect people from microbial contamination in any indoor
environment. Since 2016 we have helped a variety of businesses and consumers across the country reduce the dangers of
illness caused by bacteria, viruses, molds and mildew in offices, production facilities, schools, restaurants, homes and more, as
well as helping indoor growers protect plants and finished goods. To learn more about our 4-Step Total Solution and the
chemical free technologies we use, please visit our website at www.extrememicrobial.com.

It's just that surface transmission of CoVid is considered to be a minor vector. Businesses claiming (especially to vulnerable populations like elderly bingo players) that their business is "safe" need to add another sentence, IMO.

The instant humans come into the environment, if one of them is an active shedder of virus, the place is immediately contaminated. Lots of places are clean before the humans come in. There's been so much emphasis on disinfectants, wiping things, washing things - and while that's all stuff we can do, the long and the short of CoVid is that it replicates in the lungs (and perhaps other places) in the human body, is exhaled through breathing, speech, laughter, panting, singing and yelling.

So let's hope the bingo place also requires masks and has people sit at least 6 feet apart (but the fun of bingo for many is talking intimately to the people around, so...well, I just hope they do something besides disinfectant surfaces).

They’re probably making a killing on their Disney masks.

(Eta: literally :( )

Eta2: Who takes their kids to Disney right now, safety measures or not. I wouldn’t chance it. No way.

The one mom, in one of the Disney reopening news videos, said they wanted to experience normalcy.
Off kilter?
