Here's the thing though, anyone filing a suit alleging they contracted Covid at
Golden Corral, or any restaurant that serves a buffet, would have to prove
they got it there as opposed at any other place-- now if bunch of people
got Covid who ate there on a particular day, they might have more of a chance
to be successful, but let's say somebody files a lawsuit against Golden Corral, but that person also went to a crowded bar or restaurant or spent the day at a crowded
beach-- well they are less likely to have a successful law suit IMO
A part of the current stimulus legislation under discussion is a ban on lawsuits against employers/businesses for covid related illness.

Congress returns with only days to pass new coronavirus relief as pandemic rages

can the virus travel in water?
maybe that's a stupid question but it's all I think about with people sharing oceans/pools

I go to aquafit regularly. Our pool was closed for a while due to state lockdown, but we are all going again now. 30 people max in each class. Our towels and stuff are socially distanced around the pool on orange coloured dots. Presumably someone has done their research.

I wonder if the chlorine helps. I also wonder if the salt water helps at the beach, because people here have been swimming there when the virus was first happening before the ocean got too cold to swim in.

Southwest Airlines Will Block Middle Seats Through October — Forbes

“The practice of blocking middle seats on commercial flights is being extended into October — for some air carriers at least. Last week, Southwest Airlines updated its cleanliness standards (branded as the Southwest Promise) to extend the practice of not filling middle seats on all of its flights through at least October of 2020. “

Yes!

Is that an indoor pool? You don’t have to touch rails or other objects?
Sounds like they have a great setup for you!
I saw an advertisement for a nearby pool with exercises for seniors. Wondering if that was safe. I miss the water.

I think the point is that you cannot discriminate between mask wearers and non mask wearers unless there is a law on the books that back that. That would be like allowing people in your store with hats on but not those without hats. And then calling the police for hatless people who won't leave your store. Unless the state mandates it, there is no basis for discriminating between customers to say they are trespassing just because they have no hat on. MOO.
Hopefully someone has already addressed this (I'm catching up), but no it would not be like that! We already "discriminate" between those with and without shoes or a shirt, for God's sake! And this is a health hazard! Even if it wasn't, they can still boot you.

Yes it is an indoor pool. Quite a smallish building considering. No lounging space. They have resumed their children and baby swim classes as well. But we can't use the showers in the changerooms. And you know how fussy we are.

We social distance in the pool. Although we have to do that anyway otherwise we might accidently kick or hit each other. But we use the touch rails around the side for some routines, as well as noodles for others. I notice we haven't started using our weights in the pool again yet though.

Maybe the weights are a time thing. They try to get us in and out fairly quickly as they don't want people lingering. So having to put the weights away before the next (different) class may take too much time.

Bankruptcies
Lawsuits
Riots
Massive unemployment
Massive virus deaths
Massive virus infections and illness
Hate crimes and racism

All could have been prevented or minimized if we just wore masks. The world and Covid are laughing at us.

I'm not laughing. I'm worried.
I spoke with several family members today. They weren't laughing either.

Well yes it is but as it is not based on race sex or age it is legal I guess. The thing is in England the shops are not discriminating at all and are just assuming those without masks have a good reason and are letting them shop, as reported in the link I posted upthread. I hope that approach avoids any confrontations.
British shops can give the benefit of the doubt because masks have not become politicized there. You don't have anti- maskers openly carrying weapons into stores, just daring anyone to say something.

My toddler great-grandchildren are going to be playing in a park tonight
I'm going to watch them play from my parked car
Far enough away that they won't know I'm there (and want me to play)

I'm so excited I can't stand it!
:)

FTLOG, some folks are just off their rocker as shown in this link! MOO It appears that so many of these anti-mask folks are just out to get attention by behaving badly and just not understanding common stuff, like a business can tell you to LEAVE. Too bad you can't put pot stirring anti-mask folks on ignore in real life. ;)

Swastika-wearing pair cited for disturbance at Minnesota Walmart | News 4 Buffalo

Marshall PD says they responded to the incident around noon on Saturday, on reports that the couple’s masks were causing a disturbance. According to Marshall PD Sergeant Jason Buysse, his department issued a notice of trespass to the two shoppers. :D

Two minute video at link (This couple wore Nazi flags around their faces inside a Walmart in Marshall, MN to protest the statewide mask mandate that took effect today.)

Lol ... I see that our 'Bunnings Karen' was briefly arrested. As well as her private group leaking her self-videos. And just about the whole country slamming her.

‘Gobsmacking’ Bunnings fight goes viral

Some of the tweets in that article, LOL! “Just heading up to Bunnings to get into an argument about constitutional law with an assistant from the tool shop”

Also for others reading, it should be noted that Victoria Police are not just arresting anyone not wearing a mask, they have and will use discretion. They will only arrest people blatantly refusing. If you just forgot you will have the opportunity to put one on.

And yes, she was roundly condemned by the public. One of her posts had over 10k comments and none were complimentary.

Awww that's so sweet. Enjoy. I'm sure you miss them very much.

Amnesty International Australia has posted to Facebook:

“We've been standing up for human rights since 1961, we'd know.“

DEAR AUSTRALIA,
WEARING A MASK TO KEEP EVERYONE SAFE DOES NOT VIOLATE YOUR HUMAN RIGHTS.
LOVE, AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL

Amnesty International Australia

They add in the comments:

Amnesty International Australia
Amnesty accepts that some restrictions like face masks and quarantines need to be implemented in times of crisis to prevent the spread of disease, but these must be applied equally to all, and must not disadvantage anyone in their implementation or policing. Their use also needs to be time-limited and subject to periodic review (ie, not never-ending).

I need a "love" button for this one!

Absolutely! Restaurants can refuse service for all kinds of health reasons. And other reasons too.

This is where the US and the UK may differ.

Private businesses/corporations are "persons" under the law, in the U.S. Therefore a restaurant has the same right as a human individual to ban people from its premises (except for the exceptions, well known, in federal law that established protected classes).

So a business, like a restaurant, can "discriminate" against the shirtless (even if no ordinance or law - which there usually isn't, for men at least). Or they can "discriminate" against people without shoes (or who are disruptive but not quite disorderly). They can have "senior specials."

They cannot discriminate against a federally protected class - that happened in the 1960's. But they can discriminate against people without ties or without shoes. Yes, there are in fact still places in the US that will not allow a man in without a tie. They do have ties to loan, though, IME.

Try going shirtless into a restaurant. In the US, whether or not men are allowed by law to go shirtless in general (which they are, throughout the US), they are not allowed into restaurants that require men to have shirts.

Women are of course not allowed to be shirtless in (most) restaurants, either - but some restaurants allow it if local ordinance does (c.f. Las Vegas and environs).

In California, no restaurant or bar may allow smoking (by law). But private individuals can also ban smoking on their premises, as individuals. Health reasons for such "discrimination" have a long and venerable history that proves you right - it's not just opinion.

When this "Karen" thing first started and before I knew what it was about I was amazed at how many women named Karen were in the news :)

Waiting on my first masks to arrive. Still not saying we need them here but I'll have the pack of 50 ready just in case
A friend also ordered a pack after I told them that Chemist Warehouse had them. Before that I've checked since this all began and I always got , only available click and collect, and no store here. Nearest one 45km away.

Here in Melbourne both Coles and Woolies sell them behind the counter, with a limit of 1 box. I think they are both $40 for a box of 50.

Ooo I feel massachusetts is inching toward a slippery slope - expected there to be some increases as people are out and about. But still just a really bad feeling

many HSs held their postponed graduation ceremonies this weekend. Looked at a bunch of pictures. I personally wouldn’t have felt safe. Like the outdoor dining with tables all crammed together on sidewalks. Too many hospital visitors. And nobody masked in the barber shops. And youth baseball. Really? Sigh
Parent who attended Quincy High School graduation over the weekend tests positive for coronavirus

I posted about the Cape cod party cluster yesterday? Pop up testing. More at link
Pop-up coronavirus testing site to open in Chatham Monday after cluster of positive cases linked to party
There were at least 10 people, as of last week, who attended the party and are now positive for COVID-19 including one Chatham resident, officials said. Authorities said contact tracing is being conducted.

The Chatham Police Department received no reports or complaints regarding the house party
“The amount of information known to the town on the party is limited other than approximately 30-50 persons were in attendance and not wearing masks according to the VNA,” officials said. “A number of individuals testing positive reportedly work in the restaurant industry and accordingly the Health Division contacted local food service establishments requesting that employees be asked if they attended the party and to closely monitor all workers for symptoms.”

A few local restaurants temporarily closed due to employees testing positive, or employees who are close contacts to positive individuals.

Photo of people standing close together on cruise ship in Boston raises questions
Unfortunately, I think we are seeing the same thing in MA as is happening elsewhere: simply that low case numbers and low positivity are leading to complacency and carelessness.
I think part of it is also a summertime thing. Summer is so short in New England and people want to enjoy every minute of it in a relaxed state of mind.
I'm finishing up my vacation on Martha's Vineyard. Tourists here are somewhat compliant while shopping the stores but when they get to the beach, it's "anything goes". There's a bridge at the beach that feeds a pond from the ocean (play Jaws music here). Every year, kids line up (right by the "no jumping" sign) and jump 20 feet to the water below (yes, I did it 35 years ago). This year is no exception - I saw about 40 teenagers today, tightly gathered, jumping off the bridge. I think I saw one mask. Yes, it was outside, but these kids were elbow to elbow. Next month they'll be in school, sitting 3 feet apart, fully masked. I don't know, just doesn't seem right.
