I don't think they would need to deliberately court the virus when they are probably encountering it every day anyway.

Well, they certainly don't need to deliberately court the virus, and the 17 doctors probably thought all would be well. However, it shows a mindset that the culture in which they live, does not respect the need for social distancing. Maybe they are encountering it every day, but I doubt it.

Doctors in these parts are as sheltered from the virus as possible. There is a whole team of people to screen clients, starting by phone even before they get to the hospital door, then again at the hospital door, to make sure that both the medical staff and patients with suspected and/or potential cases have PPE and that it is properly worn. Around here, doctors are still conducting their meetings by zoom. It's inconceivable that 17 doctors would be in the same room.

My goodness, getting together like that was completely irresponsible. I'm just shaking my head.

High school graduates told to quarantine after their outdoor graduation

Bayside High School in Palm Bay, Florida, held an outdoor graduation ceremony for seniors last Saturday, an event that appeared to mostly adhere to coronavirus safety guidelines.

However, someone who attended the event tested positive for the coronavirus shortly after the ceremony.

As a precaution, the health department told parents their children need to "quarantine at home for 14 days from their last day of attendance at the facility."

Are we taking bets on how many of these grads will be quarantining?

Most people want to be loved, fed, healthy and safe. Common in most of us, which means we know people that are being careless or stubborn are actually afraid of something - maybe we do not clearly see what it is. If we stop trying to solve issues as to how people should handle mask wearing etc and just start being kind without blame maybe we would have more turning towards our behavior and can heal.

<RSBM>
We can still take measures as being our own judge to what keeps us safe or others safe and let it go if we all don't do the same thing. Hopefully more will join similar habits to our own. Keep love in your heart, try to see the good in people. Like I said most people want what you want love and basic needs. We can't always figure out their thinking.

Such a lovely post. :)

I just can't work out, though .... how do we get through to those fearful people who won't do the right thing? The US just doesn't have the time to work on that with long-running patience. The deaths are not slowing down, from what I can see.

Can you get a coronavirus test in California if you want one? It depends
Everyone else is in Tier Four, which the state’s guidelines stipulate will only “be implemented when the state’s testing turnaround time, as monitored by CDPH, is less than 48 hours.” Currently, the wait for results can stretch well past a week.
“Are we at a point right now where we can say everyone who wants a test needs to get a test? The answer is no,” Chavez said Monday. “Today, we need to prioritize testing for those who need it most and for public health purposes.”
Speaking for my own situation, my husband finally got his results today, which means it took 14 days (he was negative). I took my test the day after him, so I expect I may get my results tomorrow.

Yeah, 14 days is just too long and almost renders the test useless. I’ve isolated myself for over 10 days per cdc guidance as if I was positive (since I didn’t know) and still here I am waiting. This is not good.

slowpoke - That's ridiculous! What state are you in? I'm in South Carolina and I took a test on the morning of July 18 and I'm still waiting for results too! Have you had any symptoms? Do you figure you're negative at this point?

Glad to hear your husband was negative!

KCHD Says False Positive Covid-19 Tests Counted As Positive As Precaution

Gosh Said For Every 100 People Who Actually Have The Virus, The Test Will Misdiagnose 30

"During a Wednesday press conference, Dr. Martha Buchanan with the Knox County Health Department addressed the public’s concerns regarding false-positive COVID-19 test results.

Buchanan said false-positive test results are counted as positive because there is no way to determine which test was correct. This means if a person takes two tests and one is negative and one is positive, the department counts it as positive.

Epidemiologist Dr. Tista Gosh, Senior Director of Impact Evaluation at Grand Rounds, spoke with WVLT’s Harry Sullivan and said COVID-19 tests are not perfect, so false-positive tests will occur.

“The PCR test has a 30 percent false-negative rate,” Gosh said. “So you might test negative, but you may not really know that you’re negative.”

Gosh said FOR EVERY 100 PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY HAVE THE VIRUS, THE TEST WILL MISDIAGNOSE 30."

I can't help but wonder if the testing failure rate is this high elsewhere?

Maybe we can be kind and stop blaming. The poster made that comment. I've made it before myself. It wasn't well received in my opinion. Directed towards everyone. Not just you. :)

That's really bad.

Well, I hope it's just a local problem, But I wouldn't be surprised to discover that test results are flawed elsewhere too.

I agree. I find it interesting that in sports someone needs two negatives in 24 hours after testing positive in order to return. There have been stories of guys who test positive and are negative the next day.

Once the weather got hot and testing became hard to find, why was 20% considered to be a shockingly high positive rate? If only sick people are getting tested, then the rate should be closer to 100, I would think. My boss and niece were both exposed, experienced symptoms and tested negative. I can't wait for Frontline to, someday, do an episode on all of this. I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out the tests are so unreliable as to be essentially random. Especially if they've been sitting "on ice" for a week or two.

There is no way to get through to some people. But a small positive is that some popular businesses and stores are asking for masks so maybe it will help some. We are in a mess with school issues, public entertainment, church, gatherings and more. I actually feel a bit sorry for some very nice people that I know that are not taking simple safety measures for self and family. No one wants to get sick, suffer or die. Do they really know what the virus will do to them or loved ones? It is well known this virus can be awful for some? Do they think it is ok for their surgeon to not wear a mask since they do no good? I would think that whatever is turning them away from safety issues would make a person at least sort out their reasoning and agree that it is REAL no one is pretending it causes illness and death - who would want a part of that sadness?

How do they know that 30% are false positives?

Again President Trump blamed in 'latest reason' for outbreak of COVID-19 in America

Again President Trump blamed in 'latest reason' for outbreak of COVID-19 in America

Sky News Australia

...
Sky News host Paul Murray says apparently the latest reason has emerged why the coronavirus pandemic is out of control in the United States, and once again it all seems to be levelled against US President Donald Trump.
"Forget the whole putting sick people back in nursing homes," Mr Murray said.

"Forget the fact that their state borders are enforced by law that they can't be closed".

"It's Trump's fault".

Mr Murray's comments come after Dr. Sonja Hutchins said "the role of the federal government in this pandemic is very, very clear whose missing; leadership that mirrors the diversity of the United States population".

"When you see that then we'll probably see different outcomes," she said.

Don't look at Australia then. We are busy shaming the people that are being ignorant and spreading the virus.

Two 19 year olds who lied to the authorities and took the virus from Victoria into our state of Queensland have their pics plastered all over our morning news.

Queensland now has identified three positive cases - and the testing lines are long, as people want to be tested - due to them walking around for 8 days while covid positive.
And we all know that 3 positive cases can blow out to hundreds .. thousands ... in just a few weeks. Some people in Queensland are calling for them to be jailed (the law doesn't seem to support that - but they are looking into it - they copped a $4,000 fine each).

Queensland is now likely going to slam its borders closed again .. because they feel that they just cant trust people to do the right thing.
