The FDA have only banned the emergency use not the preventative (the trials) or the off label use for doctors to prescribe as they see fit. That was clear from the FDA press release and the MSM video from Scott Gottlieb already posted.

This is the study that has shown successful results.

This study is contradicted by numerous others that show no benefit. The study was not a clinical trial, but a retrospective. Not considered a good way to study effects of drugs. Ohio board of pharmacy actually banned the use of hydroxychloroquine for covid.

Large study out of Brazil, published in extremely prestigious journal, showed no benefit of hydroxychloroquine. And it actually has potentially damaging side effects.
"However, a slate of randomized controlled trials (RCTs), considered the gold standard for clinical investigation, have found the drug is ineffective against coronavirus and has potentially damaging side effects."

France, Italy and Belgium stopped the use of hydroxychloroquine as well. Only to be used in clinical trials, not to be used as a treatment on covid patients. This was back in late May.

Jobless claims top 1M again in latest week as coronavirus keeps battering workers

Tthe number of Americans filing first-time unemployment claims rose for the second week in a row.

About 1.4 million people filed for initial jobless claims last week, up 12,000 from the prior week's revised level, which was the first increase in 16 weeks.

Continued claims, which count workers who have filed for at least two weeks in a row, stood at 17 million for the week ending July 18, up 867,000 from the prior week's revised level.

Texas has recorded more coronavirus cases than New York

Coronavirus cases in Texas have risen to more than 418,000, putting the state at a higher case count than New York.

Once the US epicenter of the pandemic, New York now ranks fourth in total case count behind California, Florida and Texas, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

Miami-Dade mayor: "We're going to see a higher level of deaths for some time"

For a second straight day, Florida broke its record for the number of daily coronavirus deaths. Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez said that the county will see a high number of deaths for a while, but that there is a “silver lining.”

“We're going to see a higher level of deaths for some time, until we start to drop our positivity rate below 10%. It was a steep rise to the top, and I think it's going to be a gradual decline,” Gimenez said.

But the hospitalization rate is stable, and cases are not rising anymore, he said.

“We are stabilized and we're coming down. So not rising is also very, very good news … There is a silver lining to this, but it will take some time for us to go down to where we would like to see it, somewhere around the 5% level. We're still a long way,” he said.

The average positivity rate is at about 18%, he said.

Florida closes all state-run coronavirus tests sites this weekend due to tropical system

All state-run COVID-19 testing sites in Florida will close Friday through Tuesday because of the approaching tropical system in the Caribbean Sea.

The order was issued in an email sent Wednesday to test site managers, according to WCTV-TV, saying that all sites will close at the end of business Thursday and will re-open on Tuesday — so long as there isn’t storm significant damage from what forecasters expect will soon develop into Tropical Storm Isaias.

Checking in from NE TN. Our numbers are growing at an alarming rate. On 6/30 our numbers for the county I’m in and the bordering county were 220 combined, with the state at 43,509 cases and 604 deaths. This morning, exactly 1 month later, the 2 county combined cases are 1,490 with state at 100,822 and 1020 deaths. These 2 counties have a population of about 288,000.

TN tracks recoveries, so we’re daily able to know our active cases. Yesterday for our 2 counties, active cases were 833. Those 833 should be quarantined, but the question is – how many have they infected?

We do have local mask mandates, with no enforcement. Our governor will not issue a state mask mandate, despite a plea email from me a couple times a week. However our local healthcare system has reached out to all local governments and asked for mask mandates, which are now in effect. Our local healthcare system is giving regular updates and begging for masks, social distancing and hand washing. Yesterday they told we have 90 confirmed cases hospitalized with another 14 possible cases under investigation; 23 in ICU; 17 on ventilators. Yesterday, they had a presser that predicted by the first of September we could be over 300 – 350 patients in-house within this healthcare system.

Alarming for certain – especially since ¾ of the folks I see out and about are unmasked and still not socially distancing.

Highlights from South Carolina Gov. McMasters Wednesday press conference: McMaster urges strengthening of local face mask ordinances, allows entertainment venues to open under conditions

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - On Wednesday, Governor Henry McMaster issued an executive order that is aimed to slow the spread of COVID-19 in South Carolina.

The governor also called on counties and municipalities to strengthen current face mask ordinances. This strengthening of the face mask ordinances will go into effect on Monday, August 3.

“We are hoping for the best but we need to prepare for the worst, and the way to prepare for the worst is to have local leadership involved in stopping the spread of this virus,” said McMaster.

McMaster is also requiring employees and those who enter government offices to wear a mask while inside the building.

Under the new executive order, restaurants are now required to follow the guidelines issued by accelerateSC. That means employees and customers will be required to wear masks and tables will have to be six feet apart. There should also be no more than eight customers per table. The order also prohibits no standing or congregating in bar areas in restaurants. Dine-in services at restaurants will also be limited to 50% occupancy.

“These restaurant guidelines are enforceable by the state government and that is through the S.L.E.D., the department of revenue and DHEC,” said McMaster.

In Wednesday’s executive order, McMaster also announced entertainment-like venues such as stadiums, festivals, movie theaters, parades, concerts, stadiums, arenas, coliseums, auditoriums, grandstands, amphitheaters, gymnasiums, concert halls, dancehalls, performing arts centers, racetracks can reopen for business on August 3. However, these businesses must operate at 50% or less capacity or cannot have crowds of more than 250 people. Social distancing must be practiced. Cleaning and hygiene practices must be enacted as recommended by accelerateSC. Alcohol sales at these venues must also end at 11 p.m.

Former Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain announced Thursday that he has been hospitalized due to symptoms of COVID-19. But in an unusually on-the-nose development, the announcement came only hours after he denounced measures to stem the spread of the illness on Twitter in a show of political support for Donald Trump.

Early Thursday afternoon, Cain’s representatives said in a statement, posted on Cain’s Twitter account, that he was informed June 29 that he tested positive for the coronavirus that causes COVID-19, and that by Wednesday his symptoms were severe enough that he “required hospitalization.” According to the statement, Cain was taken to an Atlanta-area facility Wednesday night, and while his symptoms are “serious,” he “did not require a respirator.”

Left out of Cain’s statement is a notable event that took place between his diagnosis on Monday and his hospitalization Wednesday night. On Wednesday afternoon, Cain tweeted a link to a Western Journal article about South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, who bragged that social distancing will not be required at a July 4th Trump rally at Mt. Rushmore. In his tweet, Cain added: “Masks will not be mandatory for the event, which will be attended by President Trump. PEOPLE ARE FED UP!” BBM
