60 Minutes tonight did a segment on the security breach that caused this whole mess in Victoria, which is now seeping out into other states.
(We have a couple of positive cases from Victoria here in my state now, ones that we have contained, contact traced, and hope that we have caught in time.)

I know that some have questioned how we know what went on - the security guard who slept with a quarantined person, the poor PPE and training, the hiring of inadequate security staff - so I thought I would put this 60 Minutes video from tonight here in case anybody wants to see how this happened.

Probably so they have a chance to stay in business. Are there economic measures in place to help the businesses that can't stay open?

Yes, there is financial help for businesses both open and closed (because even open many are losing revenue with the restrictions) and for the employees both currently working and not working. There was lump sum help available, and things like license fees waived. The JobKeeper program pays the first $1500 per fortnight of each employees wages for any business that has lost 30% or more of revenue. The point of JobKeeper is to keep people employed in their jobs so they will still have that job at the other end. So whether the business is open or temporarily closed, people keep their job and receive an income.

Deliveries and pick ups are “contactless” too, ie an Uber driver just leaves it on your doorstep and you get a notification.

And we can cook, cant we?

Well “can” yes, but do we always want to ...not really. I have actually ordered takeaway a lot more than usual since the pandemic in order to support local businesses. And on the first night shift of the week at work it’s tradition that we always get dumplings!

Thanks. I found an article about it so thought I would post it. It's two weeks old but I guess hasn't changed much since then.

Only 100 Victorians have received 'no questions asked' Covid-19 hardship payment

Facebook puts global block on Brazil's Bolsonaro supporters

Facebook puts global block on Brazil's Bolsonaro supporters

...
BRASILIA (Reuters) - Facebook said on Saturday it has put a global block on certain accounts controlled by supporters of Brazil's President Jair Bolsonaro implicated in a fake news inquiry, a day after it was fined for not complying with a Supreme Court judge's order to do so.

A spokesperson for Facebook said the order was "extreme" and threatens "freedom of expression outside of Brazil's jurisdiction", but said the company has agreed to the order.

"Given the threat of criminal liability to a local employee, at this point we see no other alternative than complying with the decision by blocking the accounts globally, while we appeal to the Supreme Court," the spokesperson said.

Justice Alexandre de Moraes had ruled on Thursday that Facebook and Twitter failed to comply with orders to block the accounts because they were only blocked within Brazil, but remained accessible with foreign IP addresses.
On Friday, he ruled that Facebook must pay a 1.92 million reais (281,123.9 pounds) fine for not complying and face further daily fines of 100,000 reais per day if it does not block the accounts in question globally.

I couldn't see the Covid connection here. I read the whole article and it didnt mention it at all. ( Maybe I have missed it in a previous post as I am reading the thread backwards. )

I got it right after it ran on TV, when they uploaded it. It was on TV at 9pm, it is now after 11:30pm on Sunday night here. :)

ETA: I should have said presumably right after they uploaded it. I only know it was there when I looked for it, not very long after the show ended in my state. We get the show ½ an hour after our eastern states, due to our time difference, so they might have uploaded it once it finished running in those more-populated states.

SA is supposed to have the best healthcare system in the continent. So what I'm wondering is if the reason they are seen as the worst as far as infection is that they have the greatest capability to be testing for the virus.

I remember reading an article about Timbuktu at least a month ago. It was already there in that incredibly remote area. The article drove home however how there was ONE testing facility in the entire country of Mali. If it starts spreading like wildfire in countries like that how can they even test with one lab capable of processing tests?

How many poor countries just have people dropping from pneumonia and heart attacks and strokes but no real testing?
That first paragraph is a reason given in the US also and I somewhat see this could be relevant in SA. The other countries without testing ability may not know their true rate of infection at all. There has also been some thoughts that countries that suffer badly from malaria and take anti malarial medication may not suffer as badly from Covid. MOO while I try and find the study I read about that.

From ABC affiliate WJXX in Jacksonville:

Belligerent Customer Coughs On Patron At Jacksonville, Fla. Store

"Heather Sprague was in Jacksonville's St. Johns Town Center when she began recording an irate customer who was having a tantrum screaming at staff at Pier 1. Sprague, a cancer patient, said the customer was with two children. The woman, when she noticed she was being recorded, walked up to Sprague and coughed on her."

While that woman was beyond disgusting and potentially dangerous, I would not recommend recording or in any way provoking some stranger: these days that could be very dangerous: that loony woman could have pulled out a gun.

That’s a different payment. That’s a state initiative for people needing to isolate. It’s since changed a bit since that was posted, you can get $300 while waiting for a test result, and $1500 if you need to isolate. This is because too many people were still going to work while waiting for a test result etc.

I was talking more about federal ongoing assistance, such as JobKeeper, you can read more here:

Found these tips but they all suggest adding more sanitiser or rubbing alcohol.
Just adding water I think would dilute the sanitiser that's left on the wipes.
I make my own hand sanitised wipes using baby wipes which I saturate with hand sanitiser. I always go for the at least 70% alcohol sanitisers.

How do you revive dried out disinfectant wipes?
Tip. If disinfecting wipes have dried out, they can be revived by adding 70% isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol to the canister or package. Pour in the alcohol and close the container tightly. Allow the wipes to absorb the alcohol completely before using.

Those are great tips. We can't find hand sanitizer here, but there is a company locally that makes alcoholic beverages (spirits) and they are also making big bottles of sanitizer for pick up only. They are 70% alcohol based sanitizers, but they aren't gel sanitizers, they are liquid sanitizers. So to keep them in small bottles in your car doesn't work well, when you use them, they are too liquid-y. Drips all over the place, but dries really fast. So I think I will buy some more (they have no-touch pick up by appointment, park outside, call them, a hand leaves them on a table outside the door, you don't even see a face!). And I will soak some baby wipes and place them in a zip lock bag and keep these in the car when I go out for grocery or pharmacy drive through pick up. Otherwise, I will be out of hand sanitizer by early fall, and hard to get, with high cost on Amazon, when available.

If you can find some Aloe vera gel to mix with them it might help to thicken them or a small spray bottle that mists it onto your hands. I have a small upside down spray bottle hanging from my rear view mirror that dates back to my First Responder days so I just refill that.

The article did also mention businesses, which was my original question. $534m apparently.

"Under the support package, more than 80,000 struggling businesses in the lockdown area will be eligible for $5,000 grants to help them stay afloat.

Business owners and operators and sole traders will be eligible for $36m of mental health support and mentoring.

Pubs, restaurants and other hospitality businesses will receive support from a dedicated fund of $30m for the night-time economy.

Pakula acknowledged that foot traffic in the Melbourne CBD had been “uniquely” hit by people staying at home. The government will set up a $20m fund specifically for the CBD.

The package also includes support for regional tourism operators who will miss out on visitors from Melbourne due to the lockdown.

The government also announced an extended and expanded payroll tax deferral, which will allow eligible business with payrolls of up to $10m to defer liabilities for the first half of the new financial year.

The package is aimed at helping businesses to stay afloat through the lockdown and then recover on the other side, the ministers said."

"The new package took the Victorian government’s coronavirus support to $6bn so far, Pallas said."

Ha! Looked like a zoo in his driveway, homeowner says, and when they tipped over the garbage can, the bear passed over homemade lasagna in favor of an Arby's sandwich! Great story, thanks for posting.

He is picky!!!!!! I love it
