Epidemiologists said that if Trump tested positive on Thursday morning he could have been infectious at that time.

Despite the fact that the White House knew about Hicks’s condition, Trump travelled to New Jersey for a fundraising event on Thursday, and his press secretary held a briefing for journalists.

As she had accompanied Trump on trips all week, Hicks should have been tested every day. However, if she was symptomatic from Covid infection on Wednesday, that raises questions about the testing. Normally symptoms do not appear for several days after infection, so it is possible Hicks was given false negative results from tests earlier in the week. The White House uses the Abbott ID Now test, which has been found to produce a significant percentage of false negatives.

Pence attended a meeting at the White House on Monday but did not travel with Trump to Cleveland for the debate. However, he has been in close proximity to Meadows since then. Meadows has, in turn, been in daily close contact with Hicks and the president.

Pence and Meadows have accompanied Barrett to a series of meetings with Republican senators starting on Tuesday. A photograph from Tuesday morning showed Pence, Meadows, Barrett and the White House counsel, Pat Cipollone, meeting the Republican Senate leader, Mitch McConnell. In the photograph, none of them are wearing masks.

Fears for Joe Biden after Trump tests positive for Covid

She tested negative that morning but then felt ill in the evening as I understand. As we know symptoms often don't show straightaway or tests show up positive straight away. That's how it spreads so easily.

Also, if Trump was tested on Thursday morning, would he still be awaiting a result at 1a.m. Friday? That's not a very speedy test.

Trump's exposure is such a mess. Pence, Biden may have been exposed. Think of the persons at the Duluth, MN rally, those also at the Cleveland debate - common people just doing their job.

Have not heard about Baron. I would guess he will be tested.

A congressman for MN has expressed his concern ...

As has been routine for months, Vice President Pence is tested for COVID-19 every day. This morning, Vice President Pence and the Second Lady tested negative for COVID-19. Vice President Pence remains in good health and wishes the Trumps well in their recovery.

Timeline of Trump's activities in week COVID-19 hit home

This timeline makes it sound like Trump went to the NJ resort after Hicks tested positive.

Thursday
Hicks tests positive for the coronavirus.

— Trump flies to his Bedminster resort in New Jersey for a private fundraiser. Several aides who were in proximity to Hicks scrap plans to accompany Trump.

I watched the whole Duluth rally. Everyone near Trump wore masks.

Trump’s Positive Coronavirus Test Upends Campaign in Final Stretch

The president restarted the rallies during the Democratic convention in August. The events have been mostly, but not always, outdoors. Yet his supporters, journalists, White House staff members, security workers and others are around one another for hours at the rallies. And many of those who attend, including Mr. Trump and members of his staff, do not wear masks.

Seems to be masks when Trump is speaking to crowd, but there are lots of online photos showing Trump at Duluth rally with others - no masks. Google Duluth Rally. Then hit images at top.

It is unclear where the Trumps and Hicks may have caught the virus, but in an interview Thursday evening, Trump seemed to suggest it may have been spread by someone in the military or law enforcement.

“It’s very, very hard when you are with people from the military or from law enforcement, and they come over to you, and they want to hug you, and they want to kiss you,” he said, “because we really have done a good job for them. And you get close. And things happen.”

They will still have to quarantine though right? For 7 days maybe? This is really testing the rules and testing efficiency.

2020 has been a year from hell. My friend's grandmother died in the nursing home (not from covid) recently, but her last months were horrible because they would not let her family visit. They were allowed to sit outside a window (closed window) and try to yell through once a week. The grandmother could not hear and would just cry. It was torturous. She died without having seen or hugged her loved ones for so long.

We have to start putting people's mental health in perspective as well. Some of the things that are happening are just awful.

This right here. :(

I saw him walk off AF1, saw him walk to the podium, watched the whole thing and then I saw him walk back onto AF1. There was just a small part where he was lower than the crowd and he was not visible. I'll check out the images as I will recognise the backdrop.

Yes, masks on people behind Trump (for visual/TV purposes) but no masks on his Secret Service nor on most, if not all, of the folks sitting facing him - which makes me believe that the people wearing masks behind him are just for show.

Trump rakes in money, stirs up supporters in Minnesota trip

ETA: Ah, even the reporter agreed:

The thousands gathered on an airport tarmac included many who didn’t distance themselves from each other or wear face masks, with the notable exception of those behind the stage and in camera view.

Hopefully the security guys were socially distanced far enough away, all of the time.

Duluth Rally Attendance

Yes that is a pic of him walking along a ramp from AF1 to the podium ( he is throwing hats to the crowd you can see) and a pic of him on the podium. Both of those pics he is socially distanced from the unmasked large crowd but directly behind him on the podium, everyone was masked. I don't think his security would expose him to dangers.

this interests me because my Dad died of heart failure in March and his Covid test was negative BUT he had many of the Covid symptoms and I think they should have done another test - I felt strongly at the time, and still do, that he had Covid

Congestive Heart Failure has so many moving parts that can fail! Was he diagnosed with heart failure for a long time? There are so many tests that give doctors the information to diagnose CHF formally, and accurately. A BNP blood test is often done with regular blood panels that a primary care doctor has done. That is a measurement of the hormones in the ventricles of the heart. When those numbers are high, a doc will call for the Echocardiagram that will record the EF (Ejection Fraction). The EF numbers measure how much blood is pushed through the left ventricle. These numbers can stage and measure the amount of heart failure. In so many cases, these heart failure numbers can start out low, and so many people are in "watch wait medications" over time.

If your dad had had no real diagnosis of heart failure previously, they could have just done that echocardiagram and then instantly gave him that diagnosis.

And I know we have seen reports of the misdiagnoses when Covid is in the picture... Many doctors were just going with the main condition, only. Clearly this was the case in Florida, as has been discussed here a number of times.

That's a great pic and clearly shows the ramp from AF1 that he walked to and fro and the unmasked crowd socially distanced from him. The ones behind and closer to him all had the masks.

I very much doubt that the military and law enforcement have been doing any hugging and kissing with the president.
