Honestly, I’m a little surprised this didn’t happen sooner, due to the early incidents of all the government officials getting wiped in Iran, Boris testing positive, Bolsinaro, Trudeaus’s wife, legislators, WH staffers, Secret Service agents...As we learned in the early days, this virus does not discriminate, but it most certainly loves politicians.

Trump taken to hospital after testing positive

US President Donald Trump has been taken to hospital less than 24 hours after testing positive for coronavirus.

Mr Trump began exhibiting "mild symptoms" of Covid-19 on Thursday after disclosing that he and his wife had gone into quarantine late Wednesday.

He received a cocktail of drugs as a "precautionary measure", the White House said, and was feeling "fatigued but in good spirits".

He was transported to Walter Reed National Military Medical Centre.

The news comes just over a month before presidential elections, where he will face Democratic challenger Joe Biden.

Snipped and emphasized by me.

As I said, none of the rest of us are getting that treatment. This is a serious disease for many. Please wear masks people!!!

I hope he will be okay.

I'm sorry but clinical trial treatments are not what average people get. And once again, I am not talking about people who need to be hospitalized. Obviously they receive treatment. Apparently I am not making myself clear. I'm sorry I'm not doing so. Maybe an example?

If I find out someone I was in contact with has tested positive, and I go get a test and they tell me I'm positive, I will be told to go home, isolate and monitor my symptoms. Even though I have asthma, I will not be given a cocktail of antivirals. Neither will most anyone else in this nation who has standard health care, even if they are super high risk for severe complications.

If I show symptoms and become sick, I will still not receive a cocktail of medications to try to halt viral replication. Maybe a few people in a clinical trial will in that situation, but that is NOT an average American. That's a research study. Not clinical treatment protocols.

For me and every other average American with standard health care, the only way we will get aggressive treatment to stop the virus in its tracks is if we present at the hospital with an inability to get enough oxygen.

That's it.

I completely get what you are saying.

Even in countries with national health care - like mine, like UK, like Canada - the treatments are not necessarily all the same.
I am pretty sure the Queen would receive more fully encompassing treatment than an everyday citizen. She would be monitored closely, be attended immediately ... as would Scott Morrison, Boris Johnson, Justin Trudeau.

And there are always really fantastic doctors, and less well performing doctors, who treat patients differently.

The people at the top of the pile can pick and choose their fantastic doctors. The people at the bottom of the pile are attended by any skill range of doctors.

In a national health care system many of us also have private health insurance. Which allows us to have surgeries more quickly, pick and choose our doctors. Those of us who have private health insurance can avoid waiting lists for public health treatments.

IMO

I think that a lot of it is the President of the United States isn't "the rest of us". IMO, it's a reasonable expectation he may get priority treatment. It's been that way for president after president. Jmo

Yes, I would expect the Queen, President Trump or any other leader to get the best treatment available, considering the national impact if they become incapacitated or die...and in President Trump’s case, shortly before an election.

Have we heard any updates of Trump's condition from one his medical care team, or have they all been reports from the WH?

BBM:
President Trump has had a fever since this morning
19 mins ago - Trump announced on Twitter he tested positive for coronavirus early ... White House economic adviser says Trump has a "very moderate case".

Much of the President’s care for Covid-19 can be managed at the White House, a source familiar with the White House Medical Unit said.

However, if the President did require critical care – for example, if he required intubation or proning, where a patient is positioned on his stomach – he would likely then be moved to the presidential suite at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, the source said.

The source also added the unit is responsible for contact tracing involving the first and second families, as well as cabinet officials and senior administration officials, all of which are overseen by the unit.

Hmmm, “very moderate”...that certainly isn’t “mild disease”, unless that is what he really meant to say. As Dr. Maria always talks about, there is mild, moderate and severe disease.

and tagging off my post...

Could President Trump receive experimental Covid-19 treatment? - STAT

Scott Gottlieb, who served as the commissioner of the FDA earlier in Trump’s term, said he thinks it would be “reasonable to consider” giving him remdesivir.

“If the reports are true that the president is symptomatic, I think it would be reasonable to consider giving him remdesivir, given that we have good information about that drug’s profile, and this is the president of the United States, so we want to lean forward on getting him the best possible care,” Gottlieb said.

Gottlieb acknowledged that remdesivir, technically, is cleared only for patients who are in the hospital, so this would be “off-label,” but he said that its safety profile is well-understood and it’s “reasonable” to believe that it could help patients earlier in their illness.

As I said.

Trump is preparing to depart for Walter Reed Medical Center Friday evening around 5:30 p.m.

The visit is “out of an abundance of caution,” the official said, adding that the president may remain there for several days.

You never know these days what’s real. Does he need care or are they just being super cautious? I feel like if it was bad he wouldn’t wait until 5:30 pm. Right?

Yes but if he was in a danger area with regard to his illness, why are they waiting to transport him?

Either way, it’s very scary.

I'm officially worried for our president. I will feel better if I can see him walk to the helicopter on his own......

Ain’t that the truth!
ps, nice to see you both, @gitana1 and @Medstudies. I’ve thought about you both, hoping you are well. Gitana, I hope you have not been affected by the fire situation. I know the smoke has been awful (even here), and you have asthma.

Yes. Politicians are in a unique position due to their contact with so many people. However, many of the leaders who caught it either got ill very early on (when we were still learning) or they are people who have denied and/or downplayed the illness and did not take precautions.

It’s clear that certain protocols reduce the risk and need to be followed, ESPECIALLY for people who come into close contact with a lot of others.

Are they going to show him leaving? I would think he would be afforded privacy for that, no?

Yep. I can speak for myself from back in March. I was exposed to 5 at work. I followed the Science very early in and was mocked a bit at work. I didn't get covid. Seems it worked out well for me.
BRAVO! Good for you. I like hearing that someone followed their instincts instead of the "popular" crowd's opinion!

Be responsible, make your own best choices for you and your loved ones, people...2 Cents
