If only we ALL could have access to N95s . . . Imagine the possibilities.

If only we ALL could have access to N95s . . . Imagine the possibilities.

You can get N95 filters by 3M on amazon and insert them in a double layered cloth mask to increase efficiency. Or buy an Asian-rated K95 on Amazon or eBay. Both are really good options and better than merely a cloth mask. In Asia, people are wearing K95's with great success and they've been well tested.

However, putting, say, a double layer of silk over the K95 might make a person feel more comfortable. Me, personally, I still wouldn't want to be in a room with a CoVId positive person - and I can't quite figure out how long after diagnosis I'd feel comfortable with a CoVid patient. I'm not brave like the doctors and nurses. But the ones I know wear a new N95 each day, along with giant faceshields, practically like a space suit. A good friend's wife is on the CoVid ward of a SoCal hospital and another friend is a nurse in the CoVid+ neuro ward at UCLA (12 hour shifts...) They say they feel really confident in their gear and all these months in, they're still testing PCR negative - they test twice a week.

I was more naturally inclined to wear mine, because it felt "safe." It eventually disintegrated...

You can get the K95s at Menards too.

What day are we counting as day 1? Today is day 10 if it's the Rose Garden event.

Thanks for catching my error. o_O I was counting from when his symptoms started, but I misspoke about starting to count from the Rose Garden event. Sorry to cause so much confusion.

yeah, sure Gavin. People will just then stay indoors and cook for themselves, shattering any fragile ground the CA restaurant industry has managed to regain, ‘cause ain’t nobody got time for that.

Actually - that's more or less our plan. We have postponed dinner reservations something like 5 times, but now have some more (for November). We will put our masks on whenever waitstaff approaches (community spread issues). But not in between bites, that's silly. Unless the waitstaff is hovering right there!

If we're made to feel stupid over this, then my DH will certainly not go out. I think it's great that Gavin is making our option more palatable, so to speak. He's speaking of indoor dining, of course (he knows there's a risk from ventilation systems - I posted my list of links again just this morning, a page or two back).

We'll be eating outdoors. My DH is something of a germophobe to begin with (for good reasons, btw, given his life experiences), so we'll wear our masks while ordering and receiving the food. We have masks we think are comfortable enough for this - and we want to support some particular establishments.

No one has to wear a mask at an indoor restaurant (although restaurants can ask patrons to remain masked until they are seated - I see some of them doing that - those are the ones I'd go to).

If a restaurant wants a mostly younger crowd, I'm sure it will handle things differently.

I cried when I read this.
All of the stories like this are just heartbreaking.

Though he was young he had high blood pressure which is a pretty high risk factor: still he was so fit and in such good shape, you would think he should have survived this nasty virus. it is heartbreaking.

How we do know when you start counting: i have heard they start counting when symptoms started.

I bought 2 N95s from an outfit online for $13. I have been rationing my use of them, as I have a disconcerting propensity to apply tinted sunscreen and then slap a mask on over it. (The 95s don’t look sturdy enough to survive a wash.)

You can get the K95s at Menards too.
I've bought KN95s three times now from Menards. They can be sanitized in a low temp oven, an Instant Pot, or a slow cooker! Just wish they weren't so pricey. I live in South Carolina and can never take advantage of the in-store rebate they offer for online orders.

Got the link months ago from someone here on WS.

ETA: Can't seem to link it myself, but menards.com is easy enough to find.

ETA2: One thing I like about Menard's KN95s is they don't have a bunch of stuff printed on the mask. Each mask is very simply and discreetly embossed with a small "KN95" - that's it.

I quoted outside of the link for you not only CDC, but the company itself, AND FDA.

<modsnip>
Yes I believe I did TY. As I said, if they are so unreliable, why did the FDA give them EUA? As we know, they also did this with HXC and then withdrew it. So how can the WH trust the EUA process?
