Good morning friends. DISD begins today amid lawsuits between our crazy governor and our County Judge/school authorities. Suits have been filed and rescinded in the last several days - back and forth on mandatory mask. Thank God common sense is prevailing for now against the Governor's win in the Texas Supreme Court. I feel so awful for the parents, students and school staff. I can't imgaine the stress they are feeling. I'll get my third shot on Wednesday, things are too out of control here in Dallas to hold off. I had Pfizer for the first two shots and I'm wondering if I should ask for Moderna for my third? Any feedback?
Hang in there all.

Precisely why the CDC and FDA need to quit being political and move forward with the booster shot for senior citizens.

Exactly. If booster shots are needed, my husband should have been notified for scheduling by the VA. I called to inquire, and got complete silence.

The VA has been a complete cluster, as usual. No surprise. I inquired about getting a shot there with my spouse, and I was also eligible for a separate reason, they couldn't articulate why they wouldn't give me a vaccine. Now, all spouses and caregivers of veterans are eligible for a vaccine, at the VA.

It reminds me of last March, when I asked about a Covid test, and the medical office here, didn't even have any tests yet.

Pediatric COVID-19 cases rise in Florida as schools reopen

The state recorded more than 31,700 new COVID-19 cases in Floridians age 19 and younger last week. There were also two additional deaths of Floridians under the age of 16 reported.

My heart goes out to all parents who are currently worried out of their minds for their vulnerable children and want to protect them as much as possible. The anti-vaxxers and power abusing public officials like DeSantis are going to have much blood on their hands.

'Naked in the world of COVID': Some J&J vaccine recipients feel unprotected against delta and want mRNA shots

'Naked in the world of COVID': Some J&J vaccine recipients feel unprotected against delta and want mRNA shots
Mon, August 16, 2021, 7:19 AM

Kevin Rosengren stared at the piece of paper in disbelief. No antibodies.

The 46-year-old resident of Richmond, Virginia, received the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine in March. He was confident in the vaccine’s effectiveness and finally felt free to leave his house, travel and meet with friends.

But lately, news of the highly contagious delta variant driving a surge of COVID-19 cases worries him. He doesn’t want to bring the virus home to his unvaccinated 11-year-old son.

Rosengren confided in his pharmacist, who offered an antibody test to dispel his concerns. Unfortunately, the results only added to them.

“I had this coat of armor on before, and now I feel completely naked in the world of COVID,” he said.

I wonder what this really means. Did he really have no antibodies, or did his pharmacist use an antibody test that is designed to see if a person has had a previous covid infection?
Seeing that the FDA has not authorised any antibody tests that evaluate antibodies created after vaccination, as the tests are not all capable of doing that.

The poor guy might be freaking out for no reason.

Again ......

COVID-19 vaccinated people who have not had previous natural infection will receive a negative antibody test result if the antibody test does not detect the antibodies induced by the COVID-19 vaccine.

A COVID-19 vaccination may also cause a positive antibody test result for some but not all antibody tests.

Currently authorized SARS-CoV-2 antibody tests are not validated to evaluate specific immunity or protection from SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Antibody Testing Not Recommended to Assess Immunity After Vaccination

COVID-19 Vaccination

Can you mix and match the vaccines?
For people who received either Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine series, a third dose of the same mRNA vaccine should be used. A person should not receive more than three mRNA vaccine doses. If the mRNA vaccine product given for the first two doses is not available or is unknown, either mRNA COVID-19 vaccine product may be administered.

6 Things To Know If You're Immunocompromised And Considering A 3rd Shot

Do I need to get the same vaccine I got for my first two doses? And what do I do if I got the J&J vaccine?

The CDC recommends you get the same vaccine you got for your first two doses, so if you got the Pfizer or Moderna the first two doses, get that one for your third shot. But if that is not feasible, the CDC committee said an additional dose with the other mRNA vaccine is permitted.

Currently only the Pfizer and the Moderna vaccines are authorized for an additional dose. If you got the J&J, you still aren't eligible.

The FDA says that there wasn't enough data available to extend the authorization for an additional dose for the J&J shots. Representatives of both the FDA and the CDC said that they are "actively engaged" to determine the best course of action for recipients of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine and expect to know more "very shortly."

Conservative cardinal who criticized the vaccine is on a ventilator days after testing positive for covid

Raymond Burke, as Archbishop of St. Louis, Missouri, photo

Most days during the coronavirus pandemic, Cardinal Raymond L. Burke could be found strolling down the streets of Rome maskless and carrying rosary beads. The 73-year-old conservative cardinal was an early critic of social distancing and, later, an unabashed skeptic of the vaccine.

Last Tuesday, Burke announced he had tested positive for the coronavirus. Now, the cardinal is in a hospital bed in his native Wisconsin, breathing with the help of a ventilator.

"Doctors are encouraged by his progress," Burke's press team tweeted Saturday night. "[His Eminence] faithfully prayed the Rosary for those suffering from the virus. . . . Let us now pray the Rosary for him."

The Vatican did not immediately respond to a request for comment late Sunday.

No surprises there. It was an 'accident waiting to happen' and easily foreseeable.

Nothing makes me cringe more than the inadequate upfront measures taken, in some places, to protect the children. Closing the barn door after the horse has bolted.

The person who has prohibited schools (or anyone) from requiring masks has a lot to answer for. imo

6ABC’s Adam Joseph: An unvaccinated relative gave my kids and I COVID-19. Don’t let it happen to your family. | Opinion

‘I THOUGHT OUR FAMILY WAS SAFE’
Then a visit by a tested, but unvaccinated, relative brought COVID to our house, writes 6ABC’s Adam Joseph.

At the end of this article:

My plea to you
After watching my family — especially my children — suffer through this virus, I have a message for those who choose not to get vaccinated: Please stay away from children under the age of 12 and those who are immunocompromised and can’t be vaccinated. Please wear a mask everywhere you go. Please follow distance guidelines. Please limit indoor visits anywhere.

If you are making the choice not to be vaccinated, you’re making that choice not just for yourself but for everyone you come in contact with. We can’t go back to normal just yet. It’s up to you to do the right thing to keep the rest of us safe.

I posted a couple of articles about John Hopkins and Worldometer a few weeks back. They get their data from different sources. For the US, John Hopkins can be considered more reliable. (Essentially, Worldometer gets its data from whatever sources it can find online. For the US, John Hopkins has more direct sources.)

Can someone link me to where on the Johns Hopkins site I need to go to see daily numbers like I see on Worldometer? I feel like I can never find the basic info I'm looking for when I go there because it's like information overload. Too much info but not just the basics where I can see the US as a whole and the stats for each individual state.

You wont find the info in the exact same format. John Hopkins offers the data more visually - while also including numbers.

This page shows the US (and other countries) daily cases and deaths.

The lack of consistency is the problem here. My young neighbor is going crazy. She has five children. The youngest ones, in Daycare, no masks are required for kids in daycare here. Nor for the staff.

However, her two children in elementary school, are required to wear masks all day, and all staff must wear masks.

Middle schools, no masks, are required for students or staff.

So, to her, none of this makes sense. Because when they come home, of course, no masks. It should be all kids under 18, or no kids...that seems to be the confusion here.

Well this scares me for the people I know who got the J&J
