Some people are taking an anti-parasitic to treat COVID. Here’s why that’s a bad idea

Oh dear: I would much rather take a drug used for horses than get a vaccine approved for humans!!!! ( I need a laugh emoji here)--- what is wrong with people? I keep asking the same question, because really, there is no answer, is there?

and lets not forget....

April 10, 2020

Dear Stakeholder,

Do Not Use Ivermectin for Animals as Treatment for COVID-19 in Humans

Ivermectin tablets are approved for use in people for the treatment of some parasitic worms (intestinal strongyloidiasis and onchocerciasis) and ivermectin topical formulations are approved for human use by prescription-only for the treatment of external parasites such as headlice

And there's where Florida's governor is falling short. I'm glad he's a fan of infusion centers, but it'd be even more encouraging if DeSantis were touting vaccines and masks with equal enthusiasm.

But he's not.

To a striking degree, DeSantis has become an enthusiastic cheerleader for infusion centers offering monoclonal antibody treatments. He appeared at one in Jacksonville late last week. He touted the treatments on Saturday. And then again on Sunday. The governor was in Orlando yesterday specifically to emphasize "the impact of using monoclonal antibody treatments."
As COVID slams Fla., DeSantis focuses on treatment, not prevention

This feel dangerous to me...

Tuesday is the first day people with COVID-19 can start getting free monoclonal antibody treatments for the disease at the Downtown Jacksonville Main Library. There are published studies that show Regeneron reduces covid hospitalizations by as much as 70%.

Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry’s office said Monday night in an email to WJCT News that there is a standing order in Florida signed by the State Surgeon General that ALLOWS PATIENTS TO RECEIVE THIS TREATMENT WITHOUT A PRESECRIPTION OR REFERRAL

if administered by an eligible health care provider.

So a pharmacy tech can give you this medication, free... and will HOPE you won't even go to the hospital, or talk to a doctor???

I thought that because Regeneron and other myoclonal antibodies need to be given by infusion over a period of time, there needs to be monitoring to make sure there is no adverse reaction to this medication. I was under the impression this med. should be given in a hospital or clinic setting (or a physician office). It would be a cold day in hell before I would get that infusion anywhere else like a pharmacy or a library!!!

Texas requests five mortuary trailers in anticipation of Covid deaths
The state’s seven-day average of coronavirus deaths is at its highest since March 2020.
With Covid-19 surging across the state, Texas has requested five mortuary trailers from the federal government in anticipation of an influx of dead bodies, state officials told NBC News.

The mortuary trailers from the Federal Emergency Management Agency will be stationed in San Antonio and sent around the state at the request of local officials.

Department of State Health Services spokesperson Doug Loveday said the trailers were requested Aug. 4 after officials reviewed data about increasing deaths as a third wave of the coronavirus struck the state.

"We are anticipating a need within the state of Texas for these trailers as Covid cases and hospitalizations continue to increase," Loveday said.

The Texas Covid crisis worsens – why is the governor resisting masks?

“The Austin area is in the midst of a dire Covid-19 crisis, after setting local records this week for the most patients in intensive care and on ventilators. Only five ICU beds remain in a region of almost 2.4 million. Statewide, hospitals are so depleted that the Texas governor, Greg Abbott, is turning to medical personnel from out of state.

Yet Abbott has expressly prohibited governmental entities like school districts, cities and counties from requiring masks or vaccines – two of the easiest, most effective weapons against the virus. In stricken Austin, like much of Texas and other Republican-run states, rightwing governors are actively hampering the health policies that could halt the spread of the virus.”

Crush COVID
NEW TREATMENT FOR COVID-19 AVAILABLE AT UMASS MEMORIAL MEDICAL CENTER
If you recently tested positive for COVID-19, there is a one-time treatment that can prevent your symptoms from getting worse and keep you out of the hospital. Monoclonal antibodies, or mAbs, are human-made proteins that help your body fight off the virus that causes COVID-19.

Monoclonal antibody therapy is offered at UMass Memorial Medical Center, in partnership with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Located on our Hahnemann Campus, our temporary mobile clinic provides immediate treatment to patients who have tested positive for COVID-19.

This promising mAb therapy has been shown to keep high-risk COVID-19 patients out of the hospital. In accordance with federal guidelines, the treatment is free, safe and easy to administer. If administered within ten days of onset of COVID-19 symptoms, the one-time therapy is highly effective in neutralizing the virus and preventing symptoms from worsening.

Worcester COVID 19 treatment antibody treatment UMass Memorial
July 16 — As COVID-19 cases rise and the delta variant makes its way into the state, UMass Memorial Medical Center on Thursday unveiled a new weapon in the fight against the pandemic: monoclonal antibody treatment.
“We hope as few patients as possible will need this facility, but if they do, we will be ready,” said Dr. Michael Gustafson, president of UMass Memorial Medical Center, at the unveiling of the treatment trailer, which is parked at the Hahnemann campus.

Monoclonal antibody treatment is a synthetic antibody treatment that mimics the body’s natural response to COVID by blocking the virus’ spike protein from attaching to and infecting other cells, Dr. Sandeed Jubbal explained at the unveiling.

Thus it basically works by stopping the COVID infection in its tracks, preventing a mild case to progress to a serious illness.

It has been shown to be effective in reducing serious illness and death from the virus by up to 87%, Gustafson said, and it is available for COVID patients with mild to moderate cases but who are at risk for serious cases due to comorbidities or age. It can be administered within 10 days of the onset of COVID symptoms.

The mobile unit is one of only 17 such units — including only one other in New England - providing the service in the U.S.

“This is going to be an important tool in our arsenal to keep those people out of the hospital and keep more people alive,” City Manager Edward M. Augustus Jr. said.

The treatment itself is a 30-minute infusion followed by an hourlong observational period, and is done in a mobile clinic parked at the Hahnemann campus.

Dr. Brit Hebert, an internist in Lafayette LA does a Tiktok video about COVID-19. She treats Covid patients and put her practice on hold for a time to work on the frontline in NYC during the early days. She ended up with Covid with long haul symptoms. She breaks down information for the general public. She’s excellent in providing information and explaining the dangers of misinformation.

“Yet boosters are unlikely to tame a Delta surge on their own, says Dvir Aran, a biomedical data scientist at Technion. In Israel, the current surge is so steep that “even if you get two-thirds of those 60-plus [boosted], it’s just gonna give us another week, maybe 2 weeks until our hospitals are flooded.” He says it’s also critical to vaccinate those who still haven’t received their first or second doses, and to return to the masking and social distancing Israel thought it had left behind—but has begun to reinstate.”

Social distancing
Vaccine those without a first/second dose

Heck, the US can’t manage even one of those critical needs. JMO

Masks required at outdoor concerts and games in Los Angeles

Masks will be required at large outdoor events in Los Angeles County starting Thursday — regardless of vaccination status, according to an updated health officer order.

Guests will have to wear the face masks at large events like music festivals, parades and sporting events, except while actively eating or drinking. People must put their masks back on right away when they’re done, the order says.

I think our method to tame the Delta surge is to just let it run its course. A lot of lives are ruined or lost as a result. We deserve better.
