Anthony May-Smith, developed a cough and sore throat on the second repatriation flight out of the outbreak's epicentre Wuhan, where he had been visiting his girlfriend.

He was isolated from the rest of the passengers and rushed to an NHS hospital in Oxford when the plane landed at RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire at 8pm.

Mr May-Smith claims he 'feels fine' now but is being kept in isolation while medics await his test results tomorrow.

He told Sky News: 'When we boarded the plane in France to come to the UK, the nurse asked if any of us had had any symptoms.

'I made myself known to her and she told me to sit away from anybody else on the flight.

'There were people with babies on the flight and I obviously just didn't want to be anywhere near them.

'I feel fine now, I think it's probably the stress of getting back and being run down more than anything. 'I'm waiting for the test results to come back tomorrow.'

Mr May-Smith said it is 'a little bit daunting' when medics enter his room as they wear a face mask, are 'all covered up, [have] four pairs of gloves and wellingtons'.

The UAE will suspend all flights to and from the country (except for the Beijing route) starting February 5.

Passengers travelling from Beijing will undergo a “six-to-eight hour” medical screening at the airport.

Meanwhile, Germany’s Lufthansa airline has extended its suspension of all flights to Beijing and Shanghai until February 28. Flights to the cities were originally cancelled until February 9.

Coronavirus death toll now higher than SARS in mainland China - live updates - CNN

Yep, thanks- 2 plus 1 plus 2 plus 1 does equal 6, not 5. I need to go back to 1st grade math!

So there are now 4 of the 11 United States cases here in my neck of the woods. Yikes. But no one really seems to be concerned. I've seen 3 people wearing face masks since Friday when the first case was announced. One in the grocery store, one driving by in a car (by herself in the car, now that's interesting), and one at church yesterday. But otherwise, no fear around here from what I've gathered.

Thanks dixie. I did see it in the news but couldn't get back here. I will be relieved when that plane is actually in the air.

Princess Cruises said it is holding a ship off the coast of Japan for 24 hours while Japanese health authorities assess the 3,700 passengers and crew. A previous guest, who didn’t have any symptoms while aboard the ship, tested positive for the coronavirus on Feb. 1 — six days after leaving the ship. The Princess Diamond cruise ship was scheduled to return to Yokohama, Japan on Feb. 4.

Is anyone buying anything to potentially prepare other than hunting down masks that are impossible to find?

I always check twitter if board is down. They said it would be up shortly and it was. Smoother for me than it has been for past several days. Yet randomly I have to click the thanks button many times before it sticks. Pages are loading smoothly for me.

I'm not. I respect that folks need to do what works for them. I am doing what I normally do during any cold/flu season. We have a few masks here at home from home projects. I have access to all I need work wise.

I am close to the Ontario cities where folks have tested positive but not directly in them.

We've only got masks- bought them 2 weeks ago. Husband said "there will be a mass shortage of them so we should stock up now" and came back with 4 boxes! Then I read that the regular surgical masks do nothing to prevent.

We do have one box of N95 masks leftover from the fires.

I'm increasingly less worried about it becoming a problem here in the US. Mainly because the rate of reported cases here is way less than I anticipated 2 days ago. I think the crackdown on flights into the country has definitely been helpful. I'm also encouraged that there is a drug that seems to be working. Crossing fingers! And I'm hoping these new hospital facilities will help the people suffering in China.

After reading this post over the weekend I watched Chen Qiushi's youtube video(s) and all I can say is wow.

Here is an article from Australia:

‘We will admit them if they’re dying’

Heyya JG thanks for the heads up.

Wrt CQ video, watched a translated version focused on the immediate mass exodus post quarantine, of Wuhan's rich
and the tally of international "flights to anywhere" from Wuhan.
Ten of thousands, the mass migration of possibly infected individuals,
a distinct population group.

CDC working to provide virus testing capabilities across the US

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is currently working to provide diagnostic testing for the virus to health departments across the United States. Currently, tests are only carried out in Atlanta. But the “emergency use authorization” for tests have been expedited for local testing capabilities.
