The UK government is today considering a blanket ban on all direct flights from China and turning away foreign nationals who have been to the country within the last 14 days amid a furious backlash over its handling of the coronavirus crisis.

The US, Australia and New Zealand have already put a stop to any foreign citizens entering their countries on commercial flights if they have come from China. US airlines have also independently decided to stop flying to the country.

Gregrichards has previously posted about this very upsetting situation, so do not want to linger on the subject, but it is in my local news today.
No nasty pics, just posting with the hope and expectation that greater awareness will be good for both man and beast and help to clean up this huge dirty coronavirus mess. imo, rbbm speculation.

Horrifying video shows dogs cooked alive, tortured with boiling water in Chinese dog meat market
''According to Humane Society International, 30 million dogs are killed annually in the dog meat trade across Asia.

“Dog and cat traders snatch animals from the streets, steal pets from backyards or buy them from owners,” the HSI’s website reads.

HSI does state that most people across Asia don’t eat dogs or cats,” and that “there is increasingly vocal local opposition to this trade due to cruelty, criminality and human health concerns” across Asia.

There are also dog meat bans in Hong Kong, the Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand and Singapore.

Unfortunately, the grisly practice can often rear its head at festivals. The Yulin dog meat festival in Yulin, Guangxi, China is one such example.

Julia de Cadenet, founder of NoToDogMeat, told Metro.co.uk her organization isn’t trying to run an “anti-Asia campaign,” saying one of the big problems is that local people who witness the gruesome trade first hand are “not allowed to speak out.”

And, the Kalitta plane to Miramar Naval base is in the air from Travis AFB within the last 14 minutes.

God speed to all the evacuees and good heath may be upon them.

I think it's far worse in Hubei province than anyone expected it to get so fast. Outside of Hubei the numbers seem much more manageable. So in somewhere like the UK or US they're downplaying it because there's no need to ramp up fear for a situation that is quite minor right now in those--and similar--countries. But in Hubei it has totally overwhelmed the healthcare system and it sounds terrible there :(

re provinces and their numbers.... manageable is relative indeed. 916 was the number in China (dunno how many were in Heubei ??) just 12 days ago total on the 24th of January. And mainland China appears to still be doubling every ~3 days as of right now.

I haven't tracked each province over time, this is right now. Operations Dashboard for ArcGIS . Perhaps something to track in that a differentiation among provinces over time? I'll try to remember to come back to this post in 3 days and see as below is current at this moment

Weather delays chartered flight evacuating Canadians stranded in Wuhan
''Canadians stranded in a quarantined Chinese city were told Wednesday that a flight set to bring them home was delayed, leaving them stranded in the epicentre of the new coronavirus for another day.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said weather events forced the delay.

“There is a narrow window given by the Chinese for flights into Wuhan and the weather conditions were such that the plane could not take off,” Trudeau explained as he entered a Liberal caucus meeting Wednesday morning in Ottawa.

“So everything is delayed by a day. We’re hoping to have these families back on Friday,” Trudeau added.''

Two jets carrying about 350 Americans fleeing the virus zone in China landed Wednesday morning at an Air Force base in Northern California. Some will be quarantined at a hotel on the base for 14 days while others will go under quarantine at another military base. Guests and staff at the hotel on Travis Air Force Base near the city of Fairfield, California, about 50 miles from San Francisco, were moved out ahead of the planes' arrival.

Other planes carrying Americans home from Wuhan will arrive this week at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, and Eppley Airfield in Omaha, where they will be quarantined.

It's likely that people under quarantine who arrive in Nebraska will be housed at Camp Ashland, the Nebraska National Guard's training installation located along the Platte River.

Warning, germaphobes,
THE SABATEURS:

Yesterday I watched a video of an older woman spitting into the stack of paper towels that were left for the high rise dwellers to negotiate their way in the elevator.
Thought provoking.

I won’t be surprised if there is a lot of that going on all the time with all kinds of illnesses. I was in a meeting yesterday with a woman who drove an hour to get there while she has the flu. She wasn’t even essential to the meeting. I told her she should have stayed home and she said she wanted to share the wealth. I moved to the other side of the room.

The CDC said on Wednesday several planes will arrive in the U.S. from Wuhan, China, and one will touch down at Eppley Airfield in Omaha sometime this week.

The passengers will be issued quarantine orders and will continue for up to 14 days, beginning on the day the flight left Wuhan.

The Nebraska National Guard said three buildings, totaling 85 individual rooms, could be used without displacing any military personnel from normal operations and training.

These buildings were untouched by the flood last March due to their elevated design.

According to the release by the National Guard, the quarantined individuals will be in separate areas from military personnel for the duration of their stay and monitored regularly by medical professionals for any signs of illness.

Can something like that not be reported to HR? That's really horrible and shouldn't be allowed. :(

WHO asks for $675 million in aid

The World Health Organization is asking the global community for $675 million in aid to help control the spread of the coronavirus.

Bill and Melinda Gates are donating $100 million toward the efforts.

Coronavirus updates: The latest news on the outbreak and the global response

Good for them! WHO should go after all the other oligarchs like the Gates who don't pay taxes on their wealth. How about Jeff Bezos, Warren Buffet, etc.
