Probably not likely to live that long on container ships moving around the world. If I get a cold or flu, I can normally tell roughly when/where I got it, and I've never got it from touching a product in a shop or receiving a home delivery parcel to my knowledge.
I nearly always get it after shopping, and I’m guessing from the cart or something else someone snotty has recently touched.

One might wonder who if anyone will profit (once developed) from anti-virus vaccines?
speculation, imo.

profit through patent?

Claims of Wuhan virus created in a lab, patented and has a vaccine are bogus

Claims of Wuhan virus created in a lab, patented and has a vaccine are bogus

Sunday, 26 Jan 2020

"Neither of these has anything to do with the new 2019-nCoV virus, ” said Frieman. “This is clearly a bogus theory that this virus was created in a lab, patented and has a vaccine already made to it.”

At press time, neither the patent related to the new virus nor a vaccine is currently available for the new coronavirus as researchers are still working to understand the origin, spread and severity of the Wuhan virus."

The fifth case of the deadly coronavirus in Australia has been confirmed by health authorities.

A 21-year-old Chinese student who flew into Sydney last week has been positively identified as having the virus.

The woman arrived at Sydney International Airport on flight MU749 on Thursday last week and presented to the emergency department 24 hours later after developing symptoms.

Health authorities are now working to track down people the woman came into contact with and potentially infected.

Only for sure protective masks are N-95. Check several online resources.

Face masks aren't a very effective way to prevent the spread of coronavirus, experts say, despite spiking sales

Face masks aren't a very effective way to prevent the spread of coronavirus, experts say, despite spiking sales

"Face masks are designed to catch large contaminants and particles, including ones that might carry pathogens such as the coronavirus. There are two common kinds: surgical masks and N95 respirators.

N95 respirators filter out most airborne particles from the surrounding air, preventing wearers from breathing in particles down to 0.3 microns in diameter. These types of masks are often used when air quality is poor due to wildfire smoke or pollution, and they're designed to be tightly fitted. However, the coronavirus is 0.12 microns in diameter. "

Just imagine being on a plane with somebody with this virus.

If I am ever gonna get sick it’s gonna be a few days after a flight due to all the air on the plane being reused and germ filled.

So are the masks everyone is wearing useless?

China's unprecedented reaction to the Wuhan virus probably couldn't be pulled off in any other country - CNN

“Hong Kong (CNN)As the world watches the developing crisis around the deadly Wuhan coronavirus, it's difficult to know how worried to be. One thing is clear, however: China is treating the matter extremely seriously.

With the number of confirmed cases in the country approaching three thousand, and at least 80 deaths, China has placed almost 60 million people on lockdown, with full or partial travel restrictions on 15 cities across Hubei, the central Chinese province of which Wuhan is the capital.
Thirty provinces and major cities have activated their highest level of emergency response, with checkpoints erected on roads and screening of travelers at airports and train stations. The semi-autonomous region of Hong Kong has initiated a complete ban on anyone from Hubei, or non-residents traveling from the province, arriving in the city.”

You can only lock down people for so long. What are they going to eat? My understanding there is a bunch of Americans in Wuhan. If US is going to evacuate them, it's pretty likely some of them are infected and will spread it here.

Snohomish County man with Wuhan coronavirus is being treated largely by a robot

“The first person diagnosed with the Wuhan coronavirus in the United States is being treated by a few medical workers and a robot.

The robot, equipped with a stethoscope, is helping doctors take the man's vitals and communicate with him through a large screen, said Dr. George Diaz, chief of the infectious disease division at the Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett.”

[...]

“He arrived at the hospital in a special isolated gurney called an ISOPOD and has been treated in a two-bed isolated area away from busy sections of the hospital, the doctor said.”

[...]

“"The nursing staff in the room move the robot around so we can see the patient in the screen, talk to him," Diaz said, adding the use of the robot minimizes exposure of medical staff to the infected man.”

I wouldn't be surprised if the people repatriated from Wuhan are asked to self-isolate for 2 weeks following their return. They should also be given a number to call if they do get cold/flu symptoms so that they can be tested for the new coronavirus.

Worries grow that quarantine in China not enough to stem increasingly virulent coronavirus
https://www.washingtonpost.com/worl...34db9a-40a7-11ea-aa6a-083d01b3ed18_story.html

BBM:

“China’s health minister said the coronavirus is increasing in virulence and now could be contagious even before people exhibit symptoms, making apparently healthy people possible carriers.”

[...]

“ A scientific assessment of the spread of the disease, assuming an optimistic 90 percent quarantine, still predicted more than 59,000 infections and 1,500 deaths — twice the toll of the 2002-2003 SARS outbreak.”

[...]

“The mayor of Wuhan, the Chinese city at the center of the coronavirus outbreak, announced several stark numbers at a late-night news conference on Sunday, with most focusing on his prediction that there would be at least 1,000 new infections.

But Mayor Zhou Xianwang revealed another number that underscored the metastasizing challenge of the accelerating epidemic: 5 million.

That was the number of people who had emptied out of Wuhan in recent days — and scattered all over the world — as China’s Lunar New Year holiday period approached and authorities announced a lockdown in an urgent bid to contain the outbreak.”
