Crafts To Do During Covid Restrictions

Ooo I like that one (I’m a fan of dahlias....and books)

I keep forgetting to get a picture of the clothes pin wreath I did. I have left it at work. Everyone agrees it should be a spring project (for adults). I have our January kid craft figured out, so now I need to come up with the adult one. Unless any of you have a better idea, I'm thinking about the Dalia wreath made out of book pages for the January adult project. What do you think? (Screenshot off of pinterest.)

I am into fire personally...;)

My illness has kept me from crafting/sewing/ quilting this week. 4 days of antibiotics then of course, today was treatment. But, on the bright side, I guess, it is also steroid day. That means little sleep and a lot of restlessness for the next couple days. Each week I try to use that to my advantage. Like, you know, doing stuff at bizarre hours.

A friend asked me to make a quilt for her godchild. Could I make it gender neutral, incorporate seahorses, and teal is a favorite color. So I designed one, we went and bought fabric and I'm plugging away at it. They are doing the original gender reveal - at birth. Baby is due late Feb. This thing is so stinkin' cute and I do believe it is probably going to be my favorite. It took me about an hour to make each seahorse block. Tomorrow I will applique on the eyes, get the sashing cut out and attached. I'm debating doing the Quilt As You Go (QAYG) method or just machine quilting it once it is done.

Here are some photos so far. It won't let me upload them all in the same post.

This is the seahorse block:

This is my design which I did in an Excel spreadsheet.

Seahorse squares are 2 teal, 2 orange (looks red but it's not) and 2 purple. They look solid but they are all tiny prints. I had to compress the files but hopefully you can see them.

I’m playing with the layout against the yellow sashing to get a feel for what I call color balance and restful look. Not too dark or busy in any particular area of the quilt.

I really am a nerd aren’t I? LOL!

This will be such a cute quilt! Love the seahorses. Thanks for sharing your process and the photos. I trust you will post a photo of the completed quilt. :)

Quilt update:

The seahorses now have eyes. I’m no appliqué artist but she doesn’t want buttons. This is the layout I’ll use. I like the strong orange seahorses down the center. Teal blue and medium purple can be gender coded colors. So I want to showcase the typically non-gendered color orange.

I texted her the picture, and she in turn texts it to the new Gma to be. The two of them are hilarious, like giddy school girls keeping a secret from the momma to be.

She is gonna love it!!

My adult craft bag program has done really well. I'm very excited. Some days we may only get 7 or 8 patrons, yet 20 of them have taken these home this week. I'm pretty sure it's about a quarter of our adult patrons who have come in. We are definitely going to continue this program.

I wish our library would do crafts for adults but they just seem completely focused on the kids. We only have book clubs... I find the online books and online groups harder to follow along... Good for your library!
