Criminal Defense Attorney for Casey - Linda Kenney Baden

She would have to file paper work with the court to quit. She has not done that so far. IMO

She has not been copied on these motions. She is not a primary attorney for her. The names on the motions are Jose and Andrea. She was brought on board as a forensic expert to litigate forensics. They will use her for that purpose. If she wants out...she is not leaving KC without representation....the team would simply need to replace the forensics expert.

We don't know if she is in or out......

I was googling yesterday to see if she was presented as an attorney or an expert. Everything I found said attorney. I tried to find her educational background but oddly, couldn't find it. Is she a scientist as well as an attorney? On other cases she's worked on, was she used in lieu of a scientist as expert?

I'm really confused on this. NTS is right that if she's serving as an attorney, she has to go to court to leave the case. If she's serving as an expert, she wouldn't have to. But I don't see how she can serve as an expert without a scientific background - which she well may have.

My curiosity is really piqued on this one.

I will look for more info. When I said expert...I meant she is the attorney that was brought on by the defense as her defense specialty is litigating forensic evidence...how to discredit it, how to use policy and procedure to discredit testimony. She is not first chair or second chair....so her defense of KC is merely refuting testimony.

ETA.........It appears what the defense may have done was bring on LKB because she was DP certified......since AL has been on board LKB has been all but MIA except for her TV appearances.

Let's also recall a "trick" AL likes to use.........consult with experts first so the other team can't.

LKB's Bio on her blog http://www.huffingtonpost.com/linda-kenney-baden on the Huffington Post

Linda Kenney Baden is a former criminal prosecutor turned private trial attorney who now focuses on criminal defense and civil rights. She represented music producer Phil Spector in his first murder trial that resulted in a hung jury trial in Los Angeles, California. Recently she and her co-counsel won the dismissal of murder charges against Paul Gregory House in a case from Tennessee where defendant House had spent over twenty years on death row for a murder he didn’t commit. Her cases and clients have included such other high profile matters such as the New Jersey Four- involving the racial profiling and the shooting of several minority young men on the New Jersey Turnpike, former NBA basketball star Jayson Williams in both a civil and criminal defense capacity, and has been part of the team representing Florida mother Casey Anthony. She is a member of the bar in New Jersey, New York, Washington, D.C and is also admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States. She is a fellow in the American Academy of Forensic Sciences. Linda is also the co-author of a bestseller thriller novel series including their most recent - SKELETON JUSTICE - written with her husband Dr. Michael Baden. She also appears regularly on television networks as a guest legal commentator.

Has been instead of is???? Just an observation.

I wonder if she is signed on with the court and approved as Tm was.

She would have to submit papers to appear pro hac vice. An attorney who is not a member of the state bar that they wish to appear in has to apply to practice there.

Okay speak to me in elementary terms, does this mean that LKB is out of the defense for Casey, because she is out of state and they can get a DP lawyer in state for cheaper?

No not at all, sorry I didn't mean to confuse you.

I believe when she first came on board she had to apply to the Florida courts to practice law there. I don't know for sure if she is still on the defense team or not but sleutherontheside posted an article that says she has been on the defense team. She hasn't been very visible lately but perhaps they are saving her for the forensics portions of the trial.

Here is a link that explains pro hac vice:

Thanks for the information!

I think I can shed a bit of light on your "has been" question.

"has been" is a form of present tense (Present Perfect). It signifies that the action started in the past (beginning point unspecified or insignificant) and the action continues to the present day.

A past form would be "was" or "had been". :too much info:

So, I guess from that article, it would mean that she is still on the case.

(That is my expert opinion...Do I need to have the mods clear me on this one? LOL)

Did she really quit? I sure hope so.

Me too. I figure the more evidence that`s released the less inclined she is to want the media attention defending a baby killer pro-bono.

So I guess whoever this fantasy perp is. who buried Caylee while her Mom was in jail, left no forensic evidence of their existance. hahaha

I have wondered if AL and LKB were on the same page. By disputing the forensics the defense is sticking with SODDI. IIRC AL doesn't like using that defense. It seems that the more visible AL has become, the less we have seen of LKB.Perhaps they are not both necessary,or perhaps they have a difference of opinion.

What a shock, NOT! She never would have paid her own expenses to work for Casey & we know Baez has no money left to pay her either, lol.

Soooooo not surprised at this! Actually figured this was coming after KC was declared indigent. And, considering the latest revelations about the PI, all I can say is anyone with even an ounce of self respect left will follow suit. JMO.

Omg, omg, omg! Another one bites the dust. How many now does that make it? You can't swing a cat without knocking down one of the lawyers who has withdrawn from the Anthony case.

Good grief! At least now we know why we've not seen her in ages.

Has anyone notified a mod that the news thread is locked up?
Also, I think we need a color coded chart so we know who's on and who's off the case. :propeller:
