Alan did die in 1988, aged just 33.

There are also a lot of articles about Craig playing sports and being involved in High School funraisers as a teen.

omg how did i not know about this case my husband grew up in middlefield and his mom still lives there its a very small town they share schools with nearby durham both towns are patrolled by state police as they are way to small to even have a police department. i'm going to ask some locals if they recall this case he went missing in 76 a few years before my husband was born.

In total awareness of my own confirmation bias - I was doing a bit more deep diving. Craig Chiarappa's parents owned a jewelry store for 62 years ( I'm thinking about the charms found with the Lysander NY Doe.)

I'm also attaching a screenshot from someone that spoke with an investigator in Craig's case. According to the poster Craig frequented NYC

Hmmm often went to NYC I wonder if he could of been a victim of the NYC 1970s Bag Murders?
