I was so confused watching just now, thought maybe they were edited out.

Imagine sitting on the jury and you don't know a lick of what the trial is about and they just go straight into the first witness?? Weird.

1/11/24 Thursday, Trial Day 1: Judge Kevin Randolph started Troconis trial hearing a number of motions looking at different pieces of evidence & language used in the courtroom. Schoenhorn’s motions: Motions to disclude the victim's family from the courtroom. Wants to scratch Jennifer being referred to as a victim or even alleged victim because there's no evidence she is a victim of any conspiracy to murder. Judge Randolph granted it in part, saying jurors shouldn't consider it prejudicial if Jennifer Dulos is referred to as the "alleged victim" during the trial. He ruled on some, including a request by the defense to have witnesses sequestered during the trial. The state objected in part, noting that "members of the Farber family” who wish to be present in court are possible witnesses. Randolph granted the motion in part (other witnesses) He denied the defense's request that prosecutors say which family members they’re having serve as witnesses & what testimony they plan to elicit. Schoenhorn argued against the evidence being referred to as a "blood-like substance," a common phrase used by police. He said the evidence at issue involved "tiny little drops, there is not a pool of anything." But Judge Randolph denied the motion, noting that "blood-like stains does not have the same force" as someone calling the substance blood. He also noted that jurors would also be able to hear cross-examination. The defense is asking to deny her interrogation. The state of Jennifer & Fotus' troubled relationship. The video of the bike rider. The video of the driver of the Tacoma.
Judge Kevin Randolph read off the charges & allegations against Troconis. Judge Randolph instructed the jurors. Both sides waived opening statements.
State's witnesses: New Canaan Police Lt. Aaron Latourette is responding to missing person report. Police body camera of officer shown to jurors. New Canaan Police Sgt. Scott Romano. [Romano was posted by Jennifer’s Chevrolet SUV found in Waveny Park on Lapham Rd]. New Canaan PD Patrol Officer Kelly Coughlin [Liason officer with the NC Country School where Dulos children attended school]. CT State Police Trooper Corey Clabby, Major Crimes Detective (Troop G). Clabby's body cam shown to jurors [1 hour of footage].

Romano: we determined the SUV should be towed to the New Canaan Police Department and impounded inside so it could be processed. We couldn't initially start the SUV because it was left in reverse and the battery was dead.
How would this happen? How can you leave a car in reverse?

With everything we know and everything we're about to learn, I am dazed at the profoundly swift response by the nanny, gathering the children to safety. Brilliant.

If not for her rapid response....

Could the emergency break have been on too? How could the battery be dead so quickly?

IMO, MT looked PO'd at JAS a few times. Perhaps he oversold... seems the men she engages share that quality.
Unlike those past times of MT and JS coming out of courthouse laughing hilariously together, sharing some big joke apparently. Her family, too, looking so sober yesterday, unlike in the past, her women kin exiting the courthouse so merrily, as if it was a social occasion.

Defense cross.

Riveting cross examination on tape measures. Inches, centimeters.

I feel like I'm on a slow boat to nowhere.

JS has nothing so he asks about measurements and directions and topography.

Odd that MT's attorney opted to do several zoom-ins on the photographs of the multiple large reddish-colored smears in zones D/E of the garage floor (most of which a juror could roughly measure the size of in his/her head, based upon the size relative to other items - shelving, Christmas tree base, vehicle, etc.).
