I'm guessing that he's going to petition the court for full custody now. If he doesn't, he may look guilty. "I had nothing to do with my wife's disappearance, so I should have the kids..."

He knew she wouldn't be able to attend as she is 'missing'. IMO by cancelling this he is simply saving himself money by not forcing the atty's and experts scheduled to show up which is quite expensive. The tactic is also a stall and he could be preparing another motion to demand full custody as JD is 'missing'. If any atty's on the thread would weigh in on these issues it would be super helpful. I was reading about grandparents rights in custody and it would be helpful if an atty. on this thread could shed some light on this topic as its complex. I am also not exactly clear on the legality of what the grandparent did even though I fully understand the great need to secure the children from a parent that only has supervised visitation rights at present. IMO this is now a complicated family law situation and I'm not qualified to opine but I hope someone that has the expertise can explain it to us as I am extremely concerned about the welfare of the children. It would be horrible if the state intervened to take them away from the grandparent and put them into the foster system. I hope the grandparent crack legal team is working hard on this issue as the welfare of the children is paramount at this time.

Neither of them has to be there to depose the other witnesses. She doesn't have to be there until the 10th. Isn't his assumption that she is going to miss that date an implication that he has more information than the public does about her condition?

absolutely. i pray to god that no judge in their right mind would let him within 10 ft of his kids right now. (although i realize this might not be completely legal, which is devastating). not with his sketchy abusive past, that is well-documented. he is the type to go full josh powell.

The whole town - and beyond - is looking at him. His reputation is tanking, imo, which is likely going to hurt business. He called 911 when reporters showed up outside his house. He doesn't want the negative attention at all. To proceed with the divorce while Jennifer is missing not only makes him look really bad and callous, but also brings more attention to him (even if he didn't have to show up for these proceedings in person). He's not pleading on camera for people to help him find the mother of his children. He is hiding.

I've made it through roughly a third of the legal documents that are public from the divorce. Family law is not my area of expertise but there are so many behavioral and financial red flags present in the documents that I find it astonishing that the judges have ruled in a number of motions against JD. There seems to be this undercurrent in some of the decisions that the judges are saying effectively that we have two highly educated people that should be able to figure things out and the judges want the parties to move forward and figure things out. But there is no way to figure things out as the strategy of the STBX is to win at all costs and he has demonstrated zero willingness to be cooperative and in fact has been cited for contempt a number of times. I know so much of this is posturing and strategy but what is so profoundly sad is that the welfare of the childen never seems to enter the picture.

My point for bringing this up though is that I would hope that a judge senior to the judges that have been part of this case takes a look at the overall file and considers the welfare of the children. With the way the case has been handled by the judges it it possible for this back and forth to continue until the kids are no long minors. If there were a time for judical review of a case I think its now because I'm not sure either party in this case and certainly the children have been well served by 'justice' in the State of CT. I'm not qualified on the topic of family law and so this is a 'laypersons' view only but if there are any family law people on the thread that can speak to these issues I think it would help us all as this case so far looks like a travesty and certainly nothing that is serving the interests of the children IMO.

We've learned in other cases that OnStar offers various options for people to gain entry to the vehicle. We don't know how they set up OnStar but how tragic would it have been for her to have an old family car to which he still had access via OnStar? This would be an interesting question for the press conference IMO.

She filed in 2017 iirc and the vehicle is 2017- I hope the purchase was after

I think it’s just standard legal maneuvering. His lawyers would be advising him on this.

Agreed - we always have our clients present at depositions in case something is brought out that needs to be questioned - if the plaintiff can’t be present (Jennifer) than it wouldn’t be proper to have a depo IMO - I think they are doing cleanup in the divorce
