I guess the jury did find non-statutory mitigating factors existed, but not enough to outweigh the aggravating factors. Certainly the jury carefully considered these charges and all factors. I'm sure they are exhausted.

I am hoping those jurors can find a way to live with this experience. I hope they have a tremendous amount of support.

JSR, that is a good point. Seems like so many defendants are alone when verdicts are read. I wonder if many of them tell family to not come.

I certainly take no pleasure in this, but I do believe it is justice. My thoughts and prayers are to the 3 departed women, the Petit family, and to JK's daughter.

Just for perspective. Below is a link to a chart of all 10 death row inmates in Connecticut. Notice how long they all sit on Death Row. JK will likely die of old age than be executed. Which is completely fine by me. I just feel relieved that he will be housed in the highest ranked security correctional facility there is in Connecticut. It's highly unlikely JK will ever be able to hurt another person again, even jail staff.

as I expected, I always find justice is a little dimished everytime a DP is handed down, so I find no joy, no justice, nothing but sadness that 12 human beings decided to kill a man today,

As the jury was being polled, the Register reporters were tweeting the juror's names. I thought that was odd. I think they realized their mistake and stopped. Oops.

The irony is that JK and SH will be stuck together for the rest of their miserables lives on death row.

At least the Petit family can feel secure, knowing that the truth was known and determined and these 2 received a just penalty from 12 (actually 24) impartial people.

BTW, please don't refer to these 2 monsters as "animals." Animals don't kill for sport. Animals don't plot to hurt. Animals don't lie and steal and fantasize about raping young children. Animals have pure souls and you cannot say the same for these monsters. The 2 cretins wouldn't be good enough to be in the same room as any of our pets.

Jurors aren't protected once a verdict has been reached. It was only the ridiculous Anthony trial that changed the normal protocol in jurors identities being released. Jurors names are open and public record. If names were being called out and not juror badge numbers then the jurors had no expectation of privacy.

I also think it's not fair for JK's defense attys to indicate that JK never got a fair shake and that if they got a change of venue the outcome would have been different. I'm out in CA and have not been saturated with media coverage about this case but it would be very difficult for me to not come to the same verdict this jury did in light of the atrocious nature of this crime. Although JK's defense attys can disagree with the verdict this jury gave it doesn't necessary mean that this jury wasn't diligent and fair. I think you would be hard pressed to find any jury of 12 people who didn't feel that if any case warranted the death penalty it was this one. And I will admit that I'm not entirely all pro death penalty. I just think in some cases no other punishment is fit, and this was one of them.
