GUILTY CT - Jennifer Hawke-Petit, 48, & 2 daughters killed in home invasion, 23 July 2007

I hope his daughters attorney can persuade the Judge to squash the subpoena issued by the defence for her,

she really does not need to be a part of this, to ask her to come to speak on behalf of her father to save his life is too much pressure for a 9 year old, she was 5 when this happened and has had no visits with her father for the 4 years post these crimes, I don't know if she keeps in contact via phone calls or letters but I hope she is allowed contact with her father if she chooses to

what could she say except please don't kill my daddy, I really hope she does not get called,

I totally agree. Can you just imagine being a young little girl of her age and being brought into a huge Courtroom to talk about a father you haven't seen in 4 years? And to basically be used as a pawn for sympathy for your convicted father?

I mean how traumatic for a young little girl!

What if she testifies and then jury still sentences him to death. How will she feel? Will she feel guilty that she didnt do enough?

The more I think about this, the more i am certain that she will NOT be called to testify. I think the prosecution would just have a hay day with it in closing argument.

That's just it. I don't think if the jury heard from his little daughter they would sentence him to death. And the defense knows it which is why they're trying to get her to testify. It's kind of nauseating to think about.

I am totally against this 9 yr old testifying at all - never mind by video.

Insane. I don't know what the defense is doing except looking for a sympathetic juror.
It could backfire though. The jury has the facts of the case and Dr Petit lost his entire family at the hands of jk which included his 11 yr old daughter.

The jury has to put aside their emotion.

Sorry if this is a dumb question but how is the penalty decided? is it majority or unanimous decision?

mother testifies about JK accessing 🤬🤬🤬🤬 on his computer in the days pre the crime, it also appears from this article that his daughter is living with his parents, as it seems his parents were the ones who requested there address be removed from documents as his daughter had receieved threatening mail

I wonder if they could have her prerecord a video to avoid the trauma of having to be in court.

yall know how I feel about him - not normally a supporter of the DP but in his case I am....IMO if anything would save his life, it would be for his daughter...not for him.

I could not do it. I could not vote for the DP even for him if I saw a video of his daughter pleading for his life.

exactly. And the defense knows that as well. So his defense team is putting JK and his life above that of his daughters and his daughters piece of mind, sanity and well being. That alone should tell you what type of human being JK really is, and who he considers most important.

Because it certainly isn't his daughter, his parents, his sister, or the poor victims and their families. It's all about JK and what he wants and needs.

Testimony by JK's sister also indicated (via twitter) that JK "hates" Dr. Petit. Doesn't think Petit did enough to save family.

Lovely human being JK is, wonderful that he blames the victim Dr. Petit for a crime HE committed.

Seems like JK's family is much like Casey Anthony's family. They seem to believe that JK should not be fully accountable for his actions since he had difficultly growing up.

Now, there is a great defense. It's not JK's fault, it's the fault of the guy JK beat with a baseball bat because that guy didn't do enough to defend his family after being beat up with a baseball bat. O'key.

The only possible grain of humanity JK could have left now would be for him to not fight the DP. Accept it and say he deserves it. A few other men have done that. That is the only was he can truly proclaim his sorrow for his crimes. And leave it up to the mercy of the court system.

It may take longer to pick a jury for a death penalty case.
