The newly formed nonprofit pushing for security cameras along Iron Horse Boulevard in Simsbury is fine-tuning details of its proposal, in order to launch fundraising next month...

Massey said the idea was spurred by the slaying of Melissa Millan, 54, senior vice president of Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co. who was fatally stabbed Nov. 20, 2014, while running on the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail.

No arrests have been made.

Almost two years later and police are still looking for the person responsible for the fatal stabbing of a Simsbury mother.

Sunday will mark two years since Melissa Millan, 54, a Mass Mutual Executive and mother of two, went for an evening jog on the side of Iron Horse Boulevard and was fatally stabbed in the chest.

I think someone wanted to rape a jogger and they were using a knife as a weapon. Melissa fought back and was stabbed. IMO it was random.

Anyone know if they looked at her boyfriend at the time? It's never mentioned in the news, as far as I could tell.

I remember this case vaguely - Simsbury is a very nice suburb. When I say very nice I mean upper middle-class to upper-class, safer than most, very little crime. I am sure the $8,000. per month alimony is pocket change compared to what she was making at MassMutual as Senior VP. My father worked for CT Mutual following his career as a state policeman. West Hartford-Farmington-Avon-Simsbury region is home to a lot of insurance company VP's, CEOs, CIOs etc.

I hope they find whoever did this to her soon. Tragic loss of life.

The way she was killed, and the timing of where she was killed, seems to indicate that this was personal rather than a crime of opportunity.

I'm not buying the whole "she knew insurance secrets" and that's why she was murdered.

Would definitely like to know more about the ex-husband and his alibi. I'm sure she had great life insurance benefits, since she was an exec at a life insurance company -- did he stand to benefit from that policy at all? Not sure how that would work if an ex-spouse dies while you're still receiving alimony...

Gosh darn it. I saw this thread had activity for the first time in ages and I was hoping it was news of an arrest. I hope the police have more than we know and are just trying to shore up a case... :(

The Cold Case Unit in the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney in Rocky Hill is now working with the Simsbury Police Department to help solve the murder of 54-year-old, Melissa Millan, who was a Mass Mutual executive, the NBC Connecticut Troubleshooters have learned.

Everyone is being interviewed again, according to Simsbury police. Those interviews have already started.

"We are certain there were people on Iron Horse Blvd. Nov. 20th at 8 pm at the time Melissa was murdered who have not been interviewed by the police. Who have not come forward. We believe it's because they didn't realize what they saw might have any value to the police," Boyle said.

“We’ve collected a large amount of evidence, some biological, some digital, some collected at the time of the event, others collected on search warrants later. With the assistance from the FBI right from the start and assistance from our regional partners locally, Hartford Police department and State Police, a lot has been collected. The state lab has been open to reexamining items and we’ve doing that throughout this process,” Simsbury Sgt. Tom Sheehan told NBC Connecticut.

I heard a rumor a couple of years ago that the police had some DNA but it didn't match up with anyone in the national database.

Nothing new here? possible abduction gone south? DNA evidence? too quiet for such an affluent person to be murdered and producing no suspects, imo.

I have a hunch. Doing my own investigation.

If that's legal ;) if not, I was just kidding.

Police Have Suspect In 2014 Killing Of Insurance Executive Stabbed While Jogging In Simsbury

The suspect lived less than two miles from the murder scene. He is a registered sex offender in Connecticut who moved to the state in 2011. He had pleaded guilty to fourth-degree sexual assault charges in his former state, according to police records.

The suspect, who The Courant is not naming because he hasn’t been charged, has no criminal record in Connecticut. It could not be determined if he was still on probation in another state. Sources said the attack appeared to be random.
