Yes, I am a verified poster - attorney.

(I forgot to include quoted post, so I re-did it for context!)
gitana, I have gathered that from your posts over time. Would you like to put that in your title (or whatever the area is called, under your username in your posts)? Verification often gives more "weight" to posts, especially to the clueless like me, and to WS newbies. :)

When Ms Short says she and her team will continue to look for Baby Lisa..I presume she will ask people to look for a live baby that has been kidnapped and will follow up on sightings .She won't put on hiking boots and head off into the woods to look for remains. MOO

That's exactly why this presser seems so strange. Her clients have no need for her services any more so it gives the impression that the presser is for her, not her clients. Is it usual professional behavior to continue making statements about the case after you've been fired?

Maybe I will be surprised tomorrow.
BS said he was working to find Lisa, not that we've seen much indication that he really is looking for her, since he made that announcement. He said his client is "the truth", and he would be objectively looking in all directions.

Maybe CS is unofficially working for Lisa (not that she can claim any official, legal role in that). Sounds to me like as long as she stays within the legal boundaries of whatever she does, she's OK, unless public opinion is that she's acting under unwillingness to "let go" of official association with Lisa's case.

But I did sense a bit of "hurt feelings" and "damage control" about her being off the case. She started off after the announcement with denials "I'm not fired; I can only be fired by my clients, who are the family" (paraphrased), then gave the official press release "I'm no longer representing the family"...and now this. "The family" makes me wonder if the unknown benefactor is actually family...don't know...I've seen it said yes and no, in the media.

I was turned off by her 1st tour of the home, but maybe she was doing what a good defense attorney should do. Nonetheless, most reasonable people see thru that, IMO.

But we all know that juries aren't always 12 + alternates, all reasonable. :)

Since when it's a defense lawyer's job? Unless she knows something, what could possibly make her think she can do a better job than LE and FBI?

But she needs to be careful because this kind of press conference, in which she announces she will continue to search for the missing child of her former clients, could be seen as a dig against those clients. Kind of like, "Well they may have fired me but I still care about their child, even if they don't. So while they stick with spinners like Tacopina, I will do what they should be doing - look for their child." While not necessarily a state bar issue, I find such a thing questionable.

Respectfully snipped to quote just the part that is relevant to my post:

http://www.kmbc.com/r/29630795/detail.html

It may be completely unintentional, not sure if CS would have been aware of what the family is doing, but the juxtaposition in this article gives precisely the impression gitana1 writes about.

Bill Stanton, the New York-based private investigator who is consulting the family of missing baby Lisa Irwin, said that he and the baby's family would be keeping a low profile this weekend.
...
Kansas City attorney Cyndi Short, who confirmed on Friday that she was no longer representing parents Deborah Bradley and Jeremy Irwin, said Sunday that she would continue to search for the baby as a concerned citizen. Short scheduled a news conference on Monday, which will be carried live on KMBC.com.

The family is laying looooow :) and the ex attorney is searching for the baby. Can you say In your face!

Then why is everybody bashing DB and JI for not searching on their own? I thought most posters would be jumping for joy that Ms short would be searching for baby Lisa. I just don't get it.

I read that LE never wants a parent to be part of the actual search where they may be the ones to find their loved ones body, for several logical reasons...I think the bashing resulted from them not doing ANYTHING that innocent people who are desparate to find their baby do :hanging up flyers, talking to the press, keeping Lisa's face and personality fresh in everyone's mind, reaching out to the professional search teams (ie Tim miller et al): That being said it is probably past the point (innocent or guilty) that they can do that now, with all the craziness that is swirling around this case...moo.. If it were ME and I knew I was innocent, I'd be out there raising Holy Heck and in LE's face every waking hour...If Ms Short can legally and ethically search for Lisa without being a hindrance to LE investigation or a conviction, please search away!! LISA IRWIN is missing...

What she can offer, that LE and the FBI are not doing, is getting the word out to people on the street who could actually know something but don't know it would be helpful.

LE has been so tightlipped that the public has been lulled into (I believe erroneously) thinking the Irwins caused their baby to disappear. They have not gotten the word out about the witnesses seeing a man walking around with a baby (may be a false lead, it is something CERTAINLY the public should have known about), they haven't gotten the word out that this pink haired woman received a call that was answered although she states she doesn't know by whom, etc. What this case needs is someone exactly like CS, who can help by making the public aware of things they could actually have positive input in.

And get this thing solved already. : ( I maybe one of the few here that love her, but I just think she's perfect. Unlike JT, she never misspeaks, never seems to get stuff wrong, she has fabulous ideas like the walk through of the house and the findlisa website, etc.

I'm looking forward to hearing what she has to say tomorrow.

Agreed! She is certainly qualified to head up a citizens search group. The Irwin family had no say in her dismissal because (and was unaware of it) they didn't hire her -Joe T did. All I can say is God Speed. We want the truth.

Perhaps she thinks that all the resources are being used to find a body and wants the public to be aware that there could be a live baby out there.

I personally think it's bizarre for her to stay involved despite no longer representing the parents. She can not reveal privileged communication because of attorney client privilege, and why would she want to stay involved? It doesn't make any sense to me.

She has no desire, it seems, to reveal privileged information.

I believe she thinks the Irwins are innocent. Maybe like police officers who spend countless hours trying to find a missing person/solve a crime, etc., but are unable to, they devote time in their retirement to keeping after that one case.

Maybe this is how that feels for her. A personal mission to bring that baby back home, alive and well.

When you're talking about a missing child, it can get very personal.

I don't think she expects to find her herself. She just wants the public to be aware and hopes that there will be a sighting. MOO

Its funny because I agree with you about the family's involvement yet I see the two attorneys very differently. I saw it as CS mispeaking, (as in holding tours and announcing daily press releases that never occurred as well as publicly coming out against what the lead attorney had decided re the kids interviews). The findlisa website i do think was a good idea.

imo

Privileged information has not brought results; new information is what is needed! I hope they turn over every rock until they find that baby. If she wants to give her time to be part of it only as a concerned citizen my hats off to her.

Since she can not reveal privileged information how could you possibly know whether it can or can not bring results?

I think this is very interesting-- to me, she looked to worn and distraught when she was working for them, it will tell me a lot just to lay eyes on her. But, I suspect whatever she has to say, she has recovered her professional decorum and will say what will resonate with the community she'll represent in the future.

I just want to see her... MOO

I don't know. I'm just hoping & praying for a break through. When they told people they would be prosecuted for searching on their own I believe that a lot of people who would have otherwise looked stopped. I am hoping she can rally up new ideas and searches that result in finding baby Lisa and finding the guilty party because baby Lisa didn't walk out of her house.

Heaven forbid, DB get herself on TV and beg for her baby to be returned. Instead of talking about herself....perhaps SHE and JI could spend time reminding everyone that Lisa is still missing. Why is it up to LE to do this??
