A great and thorough article about the heart condition that appears to have caused Damar Hamlin's collapse on the field.

ETA - my greatest concern at this point is how long it took to resupply his body with oxygen. Seconds and minutes matter

A friend’s daughter, who is a trauma doc, commented on her facebook page a similar concern. She commented that while they were able to restart his heart, spontaneous respirations did not occur and he was intubated. News this morning said he is down to 50% O2, meaning he is breathing a bit on his own, but is still not yet completely breathing on his own.

Respectfully- 50% O2 does not mean he is breathing on his own. It means the ventilator is delivering 50% O2 and 50% 'room air'.

This is an article about how the anti vaxxers are using Damar Hamlin's tragic collapse, to try and prove he collapsed due to the Covid 19 vaccine. These people are looney but very dangerous.

I have seen these comments on yahoo--- and they are stated like it is the God's truth- I have to say I was shocked when I saw those comments because the last thing I would think caused this young man's life threatening injury would be a vaccine!

I’m sure doctors are concerned about possible brain damage from lack of oxygen to his brain. He had to be resuscitated twice.

I was thinking about brain damage as well. This is just so tragic

Quality CPR compressions can provide approximately 20% of the normal oxygen flow to the brain.

I'm originally from Cincinnati, and my father and brother were at the game. Said it was the one of the most eerie things they'd experienced, complete silence in a packed stadium. Absolutely horrible to watch in person and on the TV. I cannot imagine what the other players felt like having to witness it up close.

I was just watching the news a while earlier and head his manager being interviewed. He said Damar's uncle was mistaken, he was only resuscitated once. He said all the medical info, etc. is confusing and easy to misunderstand.

The public's response to this event has been overwhelming. Restores my faith in mankind. Over $6 million in donations to Damar Hamlin' charity toy drive. Also there has been a surge in awareness and the importance of learning CPR and AED.

I took a CPR class years ago, but this reminds me I need to take a refresher class as well as learn about AED's. I remember the rhythm is important in CPR. In your mind sing the song "Stayin Alive" (from Saturday Night Fever), that will give you a good pace. If you've ever heard the song, you'll never get that beat out of your head!

Learning new info. regarding the injury the
@BuffaloBills
Damar Hamlin suffered Monday night. Today, the #NFL's chief medical officer talked about the role medical pros played in the immediate aftermath, saying.. 1/2

2/2 .. "It's certainly not an exaggeration to say that the skilled and immediate response by all of these talented caregivers prevented a very tragic outcome at that moment." - Dr. Allen Sills (w/ the NFL). #PrayersForDamar

Same for me. It's been several years since I took CPR class at our local fire dept. Back then, they did teach us how to use the AED. It's fairly simple and the machine tells you very clearly what to do. I'd like to review, though.
