A friend’s daughter, who is a trauma doc, commented on her facebook page a similar concern. She commented that while they were able to restart his heart, spontaneous respirations did not occur and he was intubated. News this morning said he is down to 50% O2, meaning he is breathing a bit on his own, but is still not yet completely breathing on his own.A great and thorough article about the heart condition that appears to have caused Damar Hamlin's collapse on the field.

ETA - my greatest concern at this point is how long it took to resupply his body with oxygen. Seconds and minutes matter

Respectfully- 50% O2 does not mean he is breathing on his own. It means the ventilator is delivering 50% O2 and 50% 'room air'.A friend’s daughter, who is a trauma doc, commented on her facebook page a similar concern. I was thinking about brain damage as well. This is just so tragicI’m sure doctors are concerned about possible brain damage from lack of oxygen to his brain. He had to be resuscitated twice.
Quality CPR compressions can provide approximately 20% of the normal oxygen flow to the brain.I’m sure doctors are concerned about possible brain damage from lack of oxygen to his brain. He had to be resuscitated twice.

I glad the uncle’s statement was corrected.
The public's response to this event has been overwhelming. Restores my faith in mankind. Over $6 million in donations to Damar Hamlin' charity toy drive. Also there has been a surge in awareness and the importance of learning CPR and AED.

Damar Hamlin's Collapse During Bills Game Prompts Increase in CPR Courses
Damar Hamlin’s terrifying collapse Monday night during the Buffalo Bills’ game against the Cincinnati Bengals was tragedy on the field, but it’s one that may prevent other tragedies in the future.www.nbcchicago.com
I took a CPR class years ago, but this reminds me I need to take a refresher class as well as learn about AED's. I remember the rhythm is important in CPR. In your mind sing the song "Stayin Alive" (from Saturday Night Fever), that will give you a good pace. If you've ever heard the song, you'll never get that beat out of your head!
