Family searches for woman missing since Easter

WASHINGTON — Danielle Moss, 32, has been missing since Easter weekend. Her family is pleading for help finding her.

Moss spent the Saturday before Easter like she does every holiday — celebrating with her big family.

“We get together, we eat, we talk, play cards, all things that a normal family does," Moss' aunt, Missy Agnew, said. "And we ended the night significantly late, you know, around 1 o'clock in the morning, and everybody left for home. And we haven't seen or heard from her since.”

Agnew said she typically speaks with Moss every day, so not hearing from her was odd.

“She may go with her friends, may spend the night, and she'll come home the next day or something like that. But she would have never done this. Never," she said.

Agnew said she would never just abandon her 3-year-old son.

"We are a very large family. And we are very close knit. We have always been close knit," Agnew said. "We do Christmas together, Christmas Eve together. We do New Year's together. You know, we do Sunday dinners, you know, almost every other Sunday together... So this is very unusual, highly unusual of her."

32-year-old Danielle Moss has been missing since April 9, Easter Sunday.

Dustin Sternbeck, Director of Communications for the Metropolitan Police Department spoke with Dateline and said that Danielle was reported missing by a family member on April 11, after last being seen on Sunday, April, 9.

Danielle’s stepmother, Gloria Hammond, says the last known sighting of her daughter was on the 9th, and was believed to be between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. at Minnesota Liquors which is about a block from her home. Gloria noted that there have been no videos or images of Danielle at the liquor store.

“The detective that was on the case was telling me that Danielle, well, she was supposed to be last seen at the liquor store down there,” she said. “There was no picture of her on the cameras at all. The detective sent me two pictures. Neither one of them were her.” Dustin Sternbeck also told Dateline that authorities have not been able to confirm the reported sighting on Easter morning.

They say what’s so troubling is that Moss is a loving mother who would never abandon her 4-year-old son, Akari.

Andre Hudson, Akari’s father, said he and Moss have a good co-parenting relationship. The weekend she went missing, he was on vacation with their son. Though he would send Moss pictures, there was no response.

Hudson said it was strange not to hear from her within two to three days, and that's how he knew something was wrong.

“She has family, friends–I mean everybody loves her. So I mean, it’s devastating," he said.

He added that the biggest gut punch was having to celebrate their son’s birthday without her.

“His birthday party was yesterday. She would never miss that,” he said. “He’ll ask [about her], but you know, it’s just something that I just haven’t had the courage to talk to him about yet. It’s difficult.”

Hudson said the family continues to stay in contact with the detectives searching for Moss, but there hasn’t been a breakthrough in the case yet.

The body of a missing D.C. mother was found on Saturday in a wooded area of Waldorf, Maryland, according to a law enforcement source familiar with the case.

"We are all doing very badly over here," her aunt, Gloria Hammond said.

At this time, police aren't releasing any more details. They also didn't release the cause of death.

Gloria said Danielle was scheduled to have Easter dinner with family but never arrived.

"Noe one would have thought this because of the type of attitude she has, she is so personable with everyone," Gloria said. "I would not have believed anything like this would happen to her."
