This is what I personally have so far in regards to a timeline. Not sure if anyone else is working on a timeline, and I certainly hope I'm not stepping on anyone's toes by posting this one. Other than what is followed by a red question mark, I believe it is accurate. The red question marks means either I don't have a link for it or there is an inconsistency in the media. If anyone sees anything inaccurate feel free to correct it.

Investigators have traveled to several states in an effort to find Rudd and Tatum, police told the TV station. Police will not say where the two were last seen together.
Antonio Wheeler, the little girl’s stepfather, says Kahlil Tatum was seen at the D.C. homeless shelter where he works on March 19. He then vanished when Wheeler asked him to bring Rudd home; authorities have said the family trusted Tatum and Rudd often stayed at the Tatum house.

So, we have Relisha's Mom, Grandma, and aunt that say they spoke with Relisha on Wednesday. IF this information is correct, what phone number did they use and was Mr. Tatum at the shelter when they spoke to her, or was he with Relisha?

Relisha's mother says she last saw her daughter weeks ago when she allowed her to leave with Tatum. Tatum, however, never brought her back and when a school counselor noticed that Relisha hadn't attended class in several weeks, police started looking for her.

Police will not say where the two were last seen together.
But according to Antonio Wheeler, the little girl’s stepfather, Tatum was seen at the D.C. homeless shelter where he works last Wednesday. He then vanished when Wheeler asked him to bring Rudd home.
The next day, Tatum’s wife was found murdered in an Oxon Hill, Md., motel.
Although police say Rudd has not been seen since February, a police report says her aunt spoke to the 8-year-old on the phone twice last Wednesday.

Noting this for the timeline & map:

(Snip)

The surveillance footage of Rudd and Tatum was taken on February 26 at the Holiday Inn Express located in the 1900 block of Bladensburg Road in Northeast D.C.

Quoting myself here and thinking... I wonder
1) how often did a family member speak with Relisha since she left with K. Tatum on Feb. 26 or was March 19 the only time
2) if maybe the reason Relisha was able to make so many calls on Wednesday was because she was with A. Tatum while K. Tatum was at work
3) what exactly was said in those phone calls
4) if perhaps the witness who might have seen Relisha in DC with an unidentified woman "Thursday morning" might actually have been mistaken and it was Wednesday morning
5) if maybe A. Tatum discovered something that was going on in regards to Relisha and K. Tatum's motives so she took her to the motel to call home and possibly return her to her family/alert LE to her discovery
6) if so maybe K. Tatum found out (because he heard of the phone calls maybe?) and murdered A. Tatum on Wednesday and then fled with Relisha
7) Did Tatum murder his wife? Or is there someone else involved that did it?

Something led LE to that Red Roof Inn and my guess it was the phone calls traced back to there.

The 19th was when the school, the social workers, the police started asking questions and trying to find Relisha. That's when the 'step dad' and Mom became concerned, and perhaps they did call that day.

  • #630
Sources tell WUSA9 that Relisha’s mother, Shamika Young, told social workers different stories about her daughter’s whereabouts. In fact, the mother insisted that Relisha was fine, but allegedly The Children and Family Services Agency become so concerned about the little girl missing school for weeks, they finally went to police to ask them to start searching for her.
DC Mayor Vince Gray thinks the city did everything it could to protect Relisha.
“She had indicated that her daughter was sick, that that was why she wasn’t at school,” Mayor. “There isn’t a whole lot more you can do with that, unless you can substantiate something is amiss.”

And herein lies the crux of the case. Mom says kid ain't missing, so what was authorities to do?

Now we know she is missing, and we search! I wish I could wave a magic wand, have a crystal ball, something to find Relisha and all missing people! :please:

BBM:

That is not far from his ties to Temple Hills, Md.

IMO, the reason DC LE contacted authorities in Richmond is because there is a Federal Prison between Petersburg and Richmond. There is also a horse farm and boarding facility in that area. An inmate with only one year left to serve will be able to go on work release program to save a little money to get started on the outside with.

I really believe Tatums' first and middle name was adopted in a change of religion while incarcerated. That is just IMO, but many inmates do that. It became a trend in the 90's. His real first name is more than likely Karl or some variation thereof.

This %^%*@#$ more than likely has many, many contacts from prison he could count on for help in hiding or running.

This guy is the lowest form of anything breathing. Now that he has murdered, he has nothing to lose, IMO.

I just pray that little Relisha will be located safe. When and if she is found safe, I hope she goes to a loving foster home. It would be great if a foster home could take she as well as her siblings so they could be together.

I simply cannot get little Relisha and her brothers out of my mind.

I thought it was the vehicles parked at the motel. The red SUV and the Honda they were looking for.

I initially mapped the wrong street address (600 Eastern Ave in Chapel Oaks) but was told of the error by a WSer, & they sent a link to a map of 1600 Eastern Ave NE...

I re-mapped it, based on this info, but I still have the original map in my photobucket account, so I can edit it, if need be.

I'm now thoroughly confused! Do we have confirmation of the Eastern Avenue NE Chapel Oaks in DC via LE? I feel like we need to hear it from LE, because of the media inconsistencies. :moo:

The locations didn't appear that close, from my recollection, but I'm not a local. :moo:

:sigh:

ETA: The maps recognize it as the 1600 block of Eastern Avenue NE in Washington DC, FWIW.... Hope this helps!

As a local, I don't necessarily think of Hyattsville as being close to DC, but when you type in Eastern Avenue, Hyattsville MD in Google Maps, it comes very close to the Chapel Oaks location.

To try to help the non-locals: Eastern Ave. NE is literally the boundary between MD and DC. If you are driving in a northwest direction on that street, the addresses on your left are in DC and the addresses on your right are in MD. For example, the building at 1123 Eastern Ave is in Maryland and the building at 1126 Eastern Ave is in DC (totally random addresses, NOT associated with this case). The neighborhood as a whole is known as Chapel Oaks.

Ok Sleuths, I found this link from VA Dept of Corrections for Oct 2011 and there is a Karl Tatum that was granted parole. Now, how can we track this to see if it's the same person?

O/T somewhat:

I had only read the first 5 pages of this thread before I began to do a little research, 2Hope4.

My first post on the thread ^ was done before I read yours here!! Maybe that will finally teach me to read the entire thread before posting!!

I was a Booking & Classification Lieutenant with our Parish Sheriff's Office for a very long time and know how these names change with inmates, lol!

We got in 150 extra inmates during Hurricane Katrina and no paperwork with them other than their ID bracelets. Of course when we went to book them, all of their information came up in AFIS. I was called back up to the facility @ 3:00am because an inmate insisted he wanted to be booked by his religious name. He was so stubborn and about to make a scene, so we booked him on paper instead of AFIS and put him in a cell by himself. In about 24 hours he decided he'd better adjust his attitude.

Karl Lee Tatum probably put the name Kahlil Malik Tatum on his application for the homeless center and nothing came up under that name as having a criminal record. Since he would be working around children and babies, I wish he'd been fingerprinted and run through AFIS. His real name and record would have shown up then. Fingerprints don't lie.

I wonder if he even bothered to go to court and have his name changed?

:please: PLEASE let this day be the day little Relisha Tenau Rudd is located and loved for all the right reasons!

MOO

And JVM is showing a continuous loop of Relisha and Tatum walking down the hall of the hotel. Sickening. And also going on about how this child was let down by everyone. One need look no further than the mother for who let Relisha down.

I'd like to see social services move in and remove the other children from this 'mother's' care. And I hope that when Relisha is found she is not given back to her.

When I heard several of the mothers of young girls in that shelter talk about how this man would give presents and crisp $20.00 bills to their little girls the word 'pandering' came to my mind.

That would be one thing I would be looking into if I was LE. What did this 'mother' allow him to do with Relisha for twenty bucks?

I am sick of people shirking off their responsibility to protect their children and claim naivety. Naive my a$$.

  • #637
The other children have been removed, CUCKOOHEAD. Thank goodness.

I think we can all agree the media reports these cases in an uneven matter. I take issue with implying that LE prefer helping white children vs. minorities. I think I will bow out of this thread since it seems to be leaning towards a social justice forum and just pray for baby Relisha.

There are people out here that love you baby girl. Please be safe

IMO LE's treatment of this case has ZERO to do with the color of this child's skin and 100% to do with the information LE got from this mother. According to this mother this janitor has had Relisha before. How many times? For what period of time? IMO Relisha's mother downplayed her daughter being missing and was hoping that the man would turn up and bring the little girl back.

From what I've heard the mother never contacted LE. The school got the ball rolling when Relisha failed to show up for school. Why wasn't this mother worried her child was missing school (if nothing else)?

This monster had @ thirty days to plan out what he was going to do. Where he would flee to.

I wish I knew how long the wife had been dead in the hotel room. I think he fled the area at that point. So how many days does that give him?

curiousguy I hope you don't bow out.

Thank you. I was worried about those kids. From what I heard Relisha looked after her younger brothers. Now that Relisha isn't there for them how much more neglected are they with only their mother?
