No, but only because he specifically called Patel out in his manifesto.

Administration officials (not including Mr. Patel): they are targets, prioritized from highest-ranking to lowest

Ah. This seems eminently more plausible than my pondering about a man of color, and certainly Allen seems the type to have done his homework on this.

Since the 1960's the president picks a designated survivor when he and all the people in line for the presidency are gathered in the same place. Usually it is a cabinet member.
That's done for events run by the federal government (e.g. State of the Union, Presidential inaugurations), but not formalized for private events like the WHCD. 3rd in line after the president is the President Pro Tempore, Senator Grassley, who did not attend the dinner. The 92-year-old senator from Iowa had gallstone surgery last weekend.

Last night, someone was shot and even though wearing a ballistic vest, it is still horrific for them and their family to experience.
<RSBM>

In addition, last night both the brother and the sister of the suspect (he doesn't deserve to be named) both contacted LE to tell them what they knew of their brother's radical rantings. That had to be one of the hardest things they've ever had to do.
Yet more victims, from one messed up guy full of hate.

It’s so perplexing to me that he excluded “Mr. Patel” for some reason.

Is it because Patel is a man of color as is Allen? That seems to me to be too trivial a distinction in 2026, but only Allen knows.
For me, the answer to this one is obvious.

And to repeat, this guy was suicidal. He was going for suicide by cop. Probably wanted to go down in a blaze of glory, and had visions of martyrdom in his sick, twisted, and deranged mental state. The culture of hatred, the absolute inability of many to accept the current administration, the twisted thinking and violent rhetoric that has permeated politics and the media.... the results are apparent.

The only alternative to this would be a total mental insanity situation, as nobody in their right mind would attempt to do what he attempted and rationally think they'd live through it.

Absolutely, devastating for the families of the suspects too. <modsnip>

This person is a danger to society and must be removed, for the rest of his life.

That is exactly what came to my mind (a man of color) when I read the exclusion.
It could have been simply the FBI connection. He was adamant about not hurting law enforcement. Ironically only hurting a LE person.

Just underlines how silly his manifesto is, how could he have not hurt anyone from LE had he gotten further.

How in the world did a gunman get into the White House Correspondents' Dinner?
I noticed in the video of the gunman running past the metal detectors, that the security detail all had their backs to the door????

Yes, very silly considering how educated he is.

I had to go Google for that and found a clip of him just sitting there, everyone else is on the floor and only a SS with their gun is seen, and he's just slowly enjoy his salad. Unflappable! Must have been a really good salad! I love burrata but if that was me, I'd have grabbed the plate off the table and laid on my stomach under the table enjoying it.

Black humor gets me through situations such as these. ☺️

First Butler, now this.

I don't know how you regard this as anything other than a huge Secret Service fail.

It wasn't like this was some open-air campaign rally in Butler, either. It was (supposedly) a highly vetted and (supposedly) tightly secured event.

It beggars belief that would-be assassins are getting this close to POTUS repeatedly.

I have seen enough. Secret Service needs a top-to-bottom review. Something ain't right there.

JMO.
Yes, and I question as to how he also entered the hotel with a shotgun, pistol and ammunition and also, how on earth was he able to secure a room just the day before?

Very possible it was the FBI connection.

The lack of space at the White House and limitations put on large gatherings and seating for dinners has been an issue and talked about by other presidents and first ladies. It doesn't need defending, the security issues alone make it a far more safe place to control for entertaining "in place", for all of our government and visiting heads of state. These international dinners and celebratory events are long held traditions for our country and have a purpose. They aren't random parties.
King Charles has confirmed he is not cancelling his visit.
How would you envision providing a government owned ball room in the peoples' house for private use by for instance the WHCD?

It would be rented, we would use taxpayers money to administer the rental, provide security, provide catering, etc? Would it be constantly for rent throughout the year?

Reading that manifesto just made me angry. How ironic he's at an event with all the media who report all the things this "man" outlined for reasons that he was doing this.

<modsnip>

Good thing he didn't decide to wear an IED and run in there like he did. He could have really harmed everyone in that building and he got close enough to do it.
