http://www.doverpost.com/article/20160226/NEWS/160229785. Since Huhman is a cryptologic technician I wanted to look up exactly what that entails. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryptologic_technician. Cryptologic Technician (CT) is a United States Navy enlisted rating or job specialty. The CT community performs a wide range of tasks in support of the national intelligence-gathering effort, with an emphasis on cryptology and signal intelligence related products.

Most CT personnel are required to obtain and maintain security clearances. Due to the highly classified and secure work environment requiring very restricted access, it is not always possible to share resources with other commands, leading to their shipboard nickname, 'spooks'. Almost every detail surrounding the CT world from administration to operations to repair requires dedicated technicians with appropriate security clearances (this accounts for the many branches of the CT rating, i.e. CTI, CTM, CTN, CTR, CTT). The contribution of an individual CT will depend upon the branch or career area.

Members of the CT community enjoy a wide range of career and training options. Once trained, a CT might serve ashore, afloat or in an airborne capacity. (It is rare, but some have earned all three, i.e. dolphins, wings and swords over the course of a career.) A CT can expect overseas assignments of lengthy duration.

If there was ever anyone capable of staging their own disappearance, this kid would be the one...he's super smart and could have figured out how to set up a whole new life for himself if he wanted to just disappear.

It sounds highly unlikely that he would do such a thing, though. But I'd rather think he did that than killed himself.

Bring Keifer Home FB page has a link to a go fund me account. I wonder if the family is trying to hire a PI to help find him. I am continually shocked at how little coverage the News Journal is giving his disappearance. Nothing.

Either that or they need help with expenses. His dad is also in the USAF and is stationed in Okinawa. I lived there for 4 years when my ex was stationed at Kadena AFB. Let me tell you, those plane tickets home are not cheap by any means. They are over $1000 and probably a lot more when you have to book last minute. I'm sure he had to pay out of pocket for those tickets unless he happened to luck out and get on a free MAC flight but you have to fly standby on those and I'm sure he wasn't going to take that risk when he needed to get to the states to help find his son.

Senior Airman Keifer Huhman had spent a majority of his life immersed in the military.

Following in his father's footsteps, the 21-year-old enlisted in the United States Air Force after graduating from high school. And things were going very well. Currently stationed at the Dover Air Force Base in Delaware, he was soon to be transferred to the U.S. air base in Okinawa, Japan, the same base where his father is currently serving.

"He called it his golden ticket. He was ready to see another part of the world," Chief Master Sgt. Kenneth Huhman, Keifer's father, told Dateline. "It was going to be kind of neat to be serving together, but now I'm holding onto the hope that it will still happen."

The plans are up in the air now because Monday marks one month since Keifer disappeared.

The last time anyone heard from the airman was the afternoon of Super Bowl Sunday, February 7. Keifer reportedly was on the way to a bowl party when he phoned the host saying he wasn't sure he would be able to make it. He was driving his blue 1997 Ford Ranger truck.

The following morning, Keifer did not show up for duty at the base, where he is a member of the 436th Communications Squadron. His supervisor went to his apartment in the Blue Hen apartment complex in Dover to look for him.

A missing person report was soon filed.

It was learned later that week that the truck had been found, towed around 10:00 p.m. on the 7th, the day Keifer was last seen, from the shoulder of the William V. Roth, Jr. Bridge. A witness had reportedly seen the vehicle with its hood up and hazard lights on, family members say. The truck had been having mechanical issues recently.

While the bridge does have cameras, officials with the Dover Police say they do not record video.
[...]
Multiple agencies, including the Dover Police Department, Delaware State Police and the United States Air Force Officer of Special Investigations, are investigating. Several aerial and maritime searches of the C&D Canal below the bridge have been conducted, but no solid evidence has been uncovered.

The mother of missing Senior Airman Keifer Huhman said her son is considered deceased.

Huhman's mother said three air force officers came to her home Tuesday to inform her of the status of her son. The officers put it in writing and said they will work with the coroner to issue a certificate.

She said no body has been found, but the family is presuming his life ended at the C & D canal. Huhman's car was found on the northbound shoulder of the Route 1 bridge above the canal.

"This finally brings some closure," Huhman's mother said.

Well that was finalized rather quickly. How can they come to that conclusion without finding his body in the water? A truck sitting on a bridge doesn't necessarily mean he jumped, other scenarios. All just presumptions. JMO.

"Dover police also have gone over Airman Huhman’s apartment looking for clues, but also have not released any findings. Efforts also are underway to probe his computer for information, Chief Huhman said."

BBM. Perhaps they found a note inside his apartment, car or on his computer ....

According to the Facebook page Bring Keifer Home, Huhman's father posted a message saying the search for his son has been called off. The post indicates based on all the evidence collected this past month they believe Huhman fell off the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal Bridge. Therefore declaring him deceased as of Wednesday morning.

A memorial service for Huhman will reportedly be held at the Dover Air Force Base, that time and date have not yet been determined. In addition, there will also reportedly be a funeral service in Pensacola, Florida during the week of March 14th. Reports say, Huhman's burial will be at the Barrancas National Cemetery at Naval base in Pensacola.

I am confused how that could happen also. What does the bridge look like?

This is such an odd turn of events. I just hope they have info we don't. It doesn't make much sense otherwise, unless they're announcing this to trick a potential suspect into feeling safe and making a mistake? (Does that even happen IRL?)

  • #55
This doesn't make sense to me either. Something else was going on or went on with him. His father said he loved the Air Force and was excited about his career. There must have been something major going on in order for him to end his life. Usually that comes from on going depression or past trauma or from serious girlfriend/boyfriend/spouse problems. I guess we just don't have much information on this so they might know better than us. So sad.

They must have a body to have him declared deceased.. There's no other way, that I know of.

Or it's been worded that way because of the sensitivities around implying suicide. At least, that's my feeling.

  • #59
Or they are staging his disappearance/death as they prepare to put him into some kind of deep undercover military operation? :silenced:

Yes, I watch wayyy too much TV.

I dunno. This is just such a weird turn of events at this early stage of things.

I don't mean this as rude but that is definitely not true.

IMO.
