Decorah, IA - Bald Eagle Cam: Watch the babies! #2

  • #581
I know we've all said it but they're getting so gosh darn big!!! I often can't tell the difference between Sassy and Wobble anymore but I can still tell Finally apart from the other two. I haven't been able to log on much this weekend and I feel like they've grown a foot. Right now it looks like Mom (harder to tell in the dark) is keeping watch while the bebes sleep. She was just sleeping with her mouth open but must have heard something as now she's alert.

P.S. Why is it that they sometimes have their mouths open like that??

I read somehwere that they don't sweat, so they pant like dogs to cool down.

2-3 inches of snow tonight for the eagles I hope they stay nice and cozy!!!

Just woke up and the snow either missed us or melted already, but my computer is being a PITA and it's not letting me open the eagle cam, I hope it missed our little family as well!!

Peeples, it looks cold there but no snow. Two of them can't fit under mum. Looks funny with their rears sticking out.

Hey Peeples - I'm just curious, since you are from Iowa, if you are close enough to travel where they are?

Yeah I am :) It's about an hour or so away, we were up there last summer visiting and will in Decorah May 28th for a wedding as well.

We could go up any weekend though really :)

Awe, that's awesome. I'd have to ride by occasionally just to see if I could get a glimpse of them flying around.

I want too really really bad... but in one of the interviews the guy gave he said people drive by and stop all the time and seemed kind of annoyed by it... and one the news one night they said for people to stay away....
So i'm really torn.. and have been trying to justify it by telling myself.. everyone else is driving by LOL!! Plus the pics I'd get would be nothing as cool as what we can all see on cam already...
I"ll definitely stop by in May and may stalk them for a while when they get closer to fledging LOL

Peeples, thank you so much for bringing this site to us. I am officially addicted and so is my bf. We are in constant disagreement over which one is Mom and which is Dad!LOL!

It is absolutely Fascinating!!!

BTW, Iowa is one of my favorite states to travel thru when we hit the road from NC to visit bf's family in MT. I have visited alot of states and Iowa has the most picturesque countryside. The barns and silos are just beautiful!

Thank you again! wm

Sorry your computer is acting up, coverage has been good. Camera panned while Mom flew up to a limb for a minute, then in real close - right in the faces of the chicks.

It is probably like a ballgame or a race, you can't see as well when you are there. Camera is panning again, he does a great job.

Waltzingmatilda, just remember Mom's head feathers look shaggier and have some black feathers in them, she has eye shadow, beak goes clear back under eye - Dad's head is sleeker, no black feathers, has eyeliner, and beak not under the eye.

One other way to tell the difference is mom's beak looks a bit more ragged to me than his does.

Hi WM, This is my first time here and I'm wondering if that is the Papa on the nest now? A while ago the adult started cawing real loud and do you think they were calling their mate to let them know they needed a repreive? LOL

This is just so absolutely cool, I just sent it to all the members of my family. Thanks Peeples ;}

Is the oldest in trouble again? The two younger are getting fed but the oldest is off to one side of the nest bowl and seems to be trying to pull himself free and go to where the others are. That Sassy gets in a lot of messes.

Dad also sports some fierce guyliner and Mom's eyes look more tired.... like most Mom's I know!

Parent switch. Mom's back. Sassy still off to one side. Stuck?

WM, here's a great video that helped me learn the difference between mom and dad.
