Decorah, IA - Bald Eagle Cam: Watch the babies! #2

Our babies are getting so big!

I haven't been posting but I have been watching our family. Mama seems to not want to leave the nest as often as Papa wants her to - she was fussy with him a couple of times. He just brought something to the nest and kept looking at her as if to say, you can take a break - but she didn't. He flew away and whatever he brought, it looked like a small rabbit, started to run around in the nest and she tried to catch it with her beak. Papa swooped down and caught it with his claws. He must always be on guard. She then fed the chicks.

Did you see the white stuff on the tree today? Is that eaglet poo? Funny, one stuck his little hinny right in front of camera and let it rip. Look like it was going to ht camera.

I just can't believe how big they seem to get each day. It's hard to believe that E1 and E2 are almost a month old already. I bet it would take a chisel to get all that poop off that tree...LOL!

Since that nest has been used for years, I bet that tree welcomes heavy rain once they leave the nest. Camera showed really close on a baby and you could see where feathers were starting to come in but still have some downy left...

Seeing how much work there is and it is taking two of them, I am understanding more why the decision was made on that other nest that Papa couldn't guard, feed, and hunt for three even bigger than these are. Since those birds were banded, they may learn more down the road as to the wisdom of making that choice.

Poor Eagle Mommy ;} She does look overworked, but then isn't every mother bird? I have a bunch of new baby birds in the fir trees by my deck and they seemingly never stop chirping. LOL I'm sure they are Hummingbirds.

I'm wondering if maybe our E Mommy has developed a disability of some sort? Thanks goodness Papa seems very caring.

Watching these beautiful birds today after last night's news makes me feel even more patriotic :)

The 3 cuties are all looking around right now, mama and daddy are not there but perched on the limb right by them.

Going through withdrawal symptoms! My computer crashed at home so I had to survive the entire weekend without checking on our EFamily. Glad to see all is good. Thanks for the updates everyone!

Well another day and it seems as if they have changed completely overnight once again. It's amazing to watch them as they grow and develop. E1 and E2 are now a month old and they don't even look remotely the same as they did just 3 short days ago. Who would have ever thought a month ago that they would be this big already? I sure didn't. I guess I just didn't know what to expect at all but it's amazing, it's unbelievable, it's awesome, and it's a joy to be able to watch them day to day.

They need a bigger house. It's getting a bit crowded. The eaglets were by themselves walking around and stretching. Suddenly they all focused intensely on something, then dad landed with a fish. The middle eaglet grabbed onto the fish and was not going to let go. Dad finally yanked it from him. lol.

If I was local, I would call LE, someone keeps going by and it looks like they are using a spot light to shine on the nest. The past few days Mom has been grouchy with Dad but with that spot light, they were both in the nest for quite a few minutes as if to protect the babies but not sure from what. The people who do this go to great lengths to be sure the cameras and all do not disturb this family - Besides, that spotlight makes me think they are up to no good. LOL maybe I am just too much of an old hen myself.

Have you checked RRP FB page Lorann to see if anyone is complaining about this? I haven't been on much today but I'll try to read through a bit and see if I can find anything. If not, it might not be a bad idea to post the information over there so that one of the mods can see it.

Apparently light is a bad word over there...LOL! I think they've been bombarded regarding the light. Here is what one of the RRP mods posted about it....

RaptorResource Mod Donna, the light is from a farm way across in the distance.

No, that light is stationary, this is from a vehicle that goes down the road. I started to notice it about an hour ago and again a few minutes ago. This is not that little light that looks like a spec. I can't do face book.

ETA Mod Donna must not be watching if she hasn't seen that vehicle...

WOW!! I haven't checked in on the nest in a few days and the eaglets are HUGE!! It totally amazes me that they can grow so fast!!! Looks like it's warmer there today with some sun, finally!

Work got in the way of my viewing for a couple days and what a difference a couple days makes! The babies are SO much bigger! And almost 81 million views - how cool is that?!

I was so worried about that spotlight on the nest last night, I actually sent an email to the Sheriff - here is his reply:

Thank you for your information on the spotlight used near the eagle nest. I will be sure to pass this on to my deputies on patrol. On Thursday we have a department meeting and I will bring it up then. The increased traffic flow in this area is quite amazing. There are times when people are selling t-shirts or just watching the eagle’s nest and the eagles fly back and forth.

Again thanks,

Thanks so much Lorann for doing that. It's awesome that he responded!

Checking in today and one of the eaglets looks really a lot darker than the other two. I didn't notice this yesterday. Anyone else notice it and why is that? I still can't believe how huge they are.
