- What's the thought of going through you when you see Kim Wall, asks the defense attorney.
"The life I've lived in to that end ends," says Peter Madsen.
"My world collapses. Kim must not be injured on this tour, which should not curl a hair on her. She must be delivered back and be happy. But she is completely dead, says Peter Madsen.

13:52
Camilla Marie Nielsen
Peter Madsen says that he immediately thinks he should deal with himself.
- Therefore, I send that message to my wife. When I write 'I'm going on adventure with Nautilus', it's because I say goodbye, says Peter Madsen, who shakes his voice.
He is clearly touched.

13:53
Camilla Marie Nielsen
Peter Madsen says that he makes his third mistake thereafter.
"We had not been sitting here today if I had just done it myself," said Peter Madsen.

13:53
Camilla Marie Nielsen
"But it happens that I get the idea that I would like to return to my wife and see her again," said Peter Madsen.

13:55
Camilla Marie Nielsen
The defense attorney now asks why Peter Madsen changed the explanation so many times.
"That's because I did not want Kim Wall to be dead the way she did," says Peter Madsen.
"But the attempt to keep it hidden could not be done," said Peter Madsen

13:56
Camilla Marie Nielsen
Peter Madsen says that on October 12 he decides to talk to the police and tell about the carbon dioxide accident aboard Nautilus.
- It's a painful suffocation. Like getting a plastic bag over your head. It is very unpleasant, says Peter Madsen.

13:57
Camilla Marie Nielsen
Peter Madsen has made a report describing the accident based on three scenarios in the accident.
"Exactly this explanation may give rise to several questions, so I think we need to document it now," says the defense attorney.

The prosecutor believes that it is most important to wait for the hearing of the testimony from the technological institute.
It also means the judge

13:58
Camilla Marie Nielsen
Therefore, the defense attorney is waiting for a document on 3 April

13:59
Camilla Marie Nielsen
The three scenarios, written by Peter Madsen, form the basis for the report from which the technical institute has assessed the accident, and therefore they are relevant in the case.

14:00
Camilla Marie Nielsen
The defense attorney now comes to the witness Ditte Dyrborg, who is called as a submarine expert in the case. She has sailed submarines in the Navy.
Peter Madsen knows the expert and the two have met each other sometimes.
"It's all about submarines," says Peter Madsen

14:01
Camilla Marie Nielsen
"She invited me to abandon the project with my first submarine," says Peter Madsen.
"But it turned out that it all succeeded, says Peter Madsen

14:03
Camilla Marie Nielsen
"I was sorry she wanted me to scrape my first submarine. But, of course, she came from a place with more resources than I had, says Peter Madsen.
He also explains that the two have spoken together over Facebook.
"Did she go out and see your submarines afterwards?" Asks the defense attorney.
"I can not remember that," said Peter Madsen

14:04
Camilla Marie Nielsen
Ditte Dyrborg has prepared a report in relation to the case.
- Do you agree with the conclusions of the report?
- There are essential things that she has not gotten. For example. that she says that you can not shut the engine door when the engines are running because it would get stuck, says Peter Madsen, who points out a number of other points in his report, which he disagrees with.

14:05
Camilla Marie Nielsen
"There are many things she has not seen," said Peter Madsen.

The defense attorney now comes to a compendium, prepared by Peter Madsen's friend Steen Lorck. According to Peter Madsen, it shows how Steen Lorck wanted Nautilus to be.
- What about the technical descriptions in that compendium. Have you read them?
"I simply did not have time for that," replies Peter Madsen.
- But should I understand that it's wrong, what's in that compendium?
- It does not represent the current state on Nautilus August 10, says Peter Madsen.

14:09
Camilla Marie Nielsen
The defense attorney now asks Peter Madsen if he, during his interview with the police on 14 October, sees pictures of the submarines in the submarine that are found.
"I will do that much later," says Peter Madsen
"Did you realize that these were the two specific straps we have seen photos of many times when you answer the police's questions about what they should be using, asks the defense attorney.
"No, I was not," said Peter Madsen

14:11
Linette K. Jespersen
The defender is now asking for the episode where the submarine is close to the freight carrier Ternveg. The accused stressed that there could easily have been harm, but rejected the fact that there was an acute danger to 13 people's life if it collided.

14:12
Linette K. Jespersen
There is now a discussion about how long the defender's questioning should be extended. The referee allows further questions to Madsen on Tuesday.

Linette K. Jespersen
The defender now asks for the costs that the prosecutor will have confiscated. He confirms that he has bought one of the hard drives while the others are back from the time in Copenhagen Suborbitals. Two of them could not open. He tells us that in CS he had shared computers with everyone while he later got his own. "I'm not a computer nerd that way, he says, adding that he is getting help to install from others.

14:19
Linette K. Jespersen
The defender asks for the 'real' movie with death slots that are found. - I can not recognize everything. For example, with regard to the animations, they are always made by the same filmmaker or artist. I have seen some material at some point. And then I've searched for more material from him and said 'download, download, download', says Peter Madsen and says he was very affected by the prosecutor showing so many movies in a row yesterday.I have never seen five in a run. I can not imagine that at all. It's something I've got from curiosity and maybe because I can just be provoked.

14:21
Linette K. Jespersen
He says the movies drove at a wrong speed, but that helped if he opened them in a video program like Moviemaker. The defender says that there were some of the videos in 2004. Is it something that's half something, all in all, she asks. This confirms Peter Madsen.

14:21
Comment from Nick
Peter began to cry during the hearing today

14:21
Answer from Caroline Clante
His voice was crying out. And he was very affected when he was talking to his wife. If tears fell, we can not say when he is sitting with our backs.

14:24
Linette K. Jespersen
The defender now refers to another movie that was shown yesterday. A movie that should be watched on July 26th - a movie with a Mexican woman. - It has been discussed because it was originally published on Facebook. In general, there is nothing in the material that is hidden. I have it from a news site. It's a news site that publishes different stories where users can upload their own videos. There are a lot of different videos on it. And I've encountered it. And it is discussed whether it was genuine or false. Most say it was false, he says, confirming that he has seen it.

14:24
Linette K. Jespersen
He tells him that he is curious and actually wants to learn to reveal fake videos.

14:26
Linette K. Jespersen
He says he has primarily found the videos he has seen on this site.

14:29
Linette K. Jespersen
The defender now has no more questions about the films. Now she asks for the texts with violent content. There are seven English texts. He says he has not necessarily read them. He says that he was particularly interested in something that was consistent - that's where all parties participated.

14:31
Linette K. Jespersen
The defender now asks for the mental investigation, where he spoke of his childhood fantasy, dreaming about being kidnapped by a woman and used for child 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬. The defendant tells whether he was asked if he ever had thoughts that might sound strange to others. That's how I told you. I just tried to get in mind the strangest I had. They did not live so badly in my sexuality. He says that he was not asked any other question of that character.

Linette K. Jespersen
The defender has no more questions. The prosecutor is granted permission for some questions. He asks for the accused's trip to Spain. He asks if snuff movies were something he spoke to the slightly shady investors in Spain about. He rejects that.

14:36
Linette K. Jespersen
Now the prosecutor asks about the day Peter Madsen sails out with Kim Wall. - So you should have some time for yourself, is it really understood? - Yes, just keep calm for a moment. I was going down and starting Nautilus. I used to say that Nautilus should take a deep breath, he says, telling him to turn Nautilus so she was ready to sail. "I think it was more elegant when she arrived, so it was ready to sail. So you should not plan anything? - What are you thinking about, asks the accused. "Now you are accused of killing," the prosecutor said. "That's something you've told me," he answers.

I'm struggling to load any more updates, I'll post if I can get them.

The prosecutor would like to ask a final question about the screwdrivers, but the defender breaks in saying that her client has the answer. Peter Madsen asks the defender whether to answer, but she repeats that he has answered.

14:38
Linette K. Jespersen
The prosecutor has no further questions and the hearing is lifted for today. Thus we also end the Extra Bladet live blog. Thank you for following. We are back on Tuesday, April 3rd. Happy Easter.

I think that's it for today.

Here's the link for today's @calforniarobin tweets.

TY for the live translations - much appreciated.

Seems like it was important testimony today. I want to read over it again over the next day or so.

  • #1,249
Thank you Legally Bland for the tweets!

edited to add - so there were only 2 other witnesses today (Kim's parents) plus PM. That makes 31 total witnesses - 26 for Pros and 5 for defense.

That means we have 3 more for Pros and 3 left for Defense; giving us a total of 37 witnesses.

At 11.00 when the prosecutor and Madsen were sparring, the transcript said 'Anklageren fortsætter ufortrødent.' This came up on Google translate as
'The prosecutor continues unsuccessfully.'
I think it may be more like 'The prosecutor continued undeterred' - please could a Danish speaker confirm or correct? It gives a very different feel to the account.

Your suggestion is correct.

There was one other witness at the beginning of the court today before PM. The name was with held but it was PM 's agent.

I am glad it is Easter now!

This case makes me feel DIRTY, and I don´t really want to think about it, it is so disgusting; but I feel that I must.
Almost like I/we owe it to Kim Wall so she isn´t alone with the horror.

That sounds crazy, I know, but that is how I feel about the whole thing.

One of @californiarobin's tweets today mentioned that 2 witnesses had been denied - one was an expert in carbon monoxide poisoning and one was a psychiatrist. Has this been mentioned anywhere else does anyone know? I just wonder why that would be if that was correct.

  • #1,255
Yes, it was in the EB transcript. They should have been notified before the start of the trial, I think, so the judge rejected them, saying something like they were unnecessary - perhaps also because she thinks they've had enough on both issues.

'At 8.35:
Camilla Marie Nielsen

The referee is now entering a discussion of defender and prosecution of an additional witness, as the defense requested. It is a witness from Rigshospitalet, which knows about carbon monoxide poisoning. The court has chosen to reject the request.
In addition, the court rejects that a legal psychiatrist may be called in and give an explanation generally about mental statements.
"We do not think it's necessary," said the judge. '

I'll just look for the comment from EB about this later.

I think that is a good sign.
They have enough to convict.
If there was any doubt left, they would have called those witnesses.

I guess so, as they have the medical evidence of no CO in the blood. He does not deny killing Kim but denies he intended it and denies the method. How much difference in the sentence would that be? I have seen 15 years mentioned for murder so how much less if they find no intention? (I.e. manslaughter).

EH! A fine or up to four months in prison.
If there are aggravating circumstances, up to 8 years in prison.

That cannot happen!!!!!!!

I finally found the exchange on EB, which isn't very explanatory but anyway. in reply to that query about the extra witnesses:
'Hej Carina,
Dommeren kom ikke med en længere begrundelse. Men vidnerne er blevet indkaldt i løbet af retssagen.'
Google translate:

Hello Carina,
The referee did not come for a longer reason. But the witnesses have been summoned during the trial.

So - The judge didn't give any fuller reason, But the witnesses were being called during the trial (instead of before as is proper procedure).

From Robin Elizabeth herr @californiarobin on Wednesday morning

The birds are singing like it is spring, but there is snow on the ground. After yesterday’s videos, no one has slept well.

What have we learned so far? From the prosecutor: Evidence that #PeterMadsen planned includes many witnesses who have never seen the tools down in the submarine before (saw, screwdriver, pipe pieces, etc).

From the prosecutor: Evidence of planning includes that there could have been a search for a victim. At least three who were invited to be in the submarine at the same time period of #KimWall #petermadsen #dkjura #submarinecase #submarinetrial

From the prosecutor: Evidence of a sexual motive includes his google searches the night before, the grisly animation & live films, & the physical evidence of stabbing on the corpse, #KimWall

From the defense. Evidence of accidental death: Several witnesses confirmed that a vacuum can be created so that the submarine hatches can’t opened & 1 confirmed that carbon can be leaked into the hull.

However, a witness also said that they knew about the problem & had discussed fixing it.

From the defense. Physical evidence on the body is not 100% correct incl that some injuries could have occurred as the body was dragged out of the submarine & one injury may not have been a sexual. of accidental death:

From the defense. Evidence that #petermadsen is a fascinating, charismatic person who was exceptionally curious & would research every subject from S&M to rockets:

In the courtroom, #Kimwalls parents have arrived the prosecutor just walked in & the chief police investigator just talked briefly to the defense.

Today’s highlight: further questioning of #petermadsen by the defense & then the prosecution. For example - what will he say about the sex films?

Court decisions: 2 witnesses, an expert doctor on carbon monoxide poisoning & a psychiatrist, have been denied the possibility of giving evidence.

Witness 26: A man whose name can’t be publicized who has knowledge of all sex subcultures incl the dark sex milieu.

#petermadsen was member of the black sex club but his membership was cancelled because he didn’t fit it - he was a quiet, calm person who was motivated by fascination rather than sexual desire.

The witness also confirms that #petermadsen has participated in Manifest, a fetish club that organizes parties several times a year.

Prosecutor: Has you experienced people who have developed their interests over time? Answer Yes

Witness 26 of defense: A man whose name can’t be publicized is #PeterMadsen’s agent & has known him since 2010. He helped organize tours, lectures & make contracts

Witness also became an investor in summer, 2017. “He was extremely passionate about rockets & would rather use money for his projects than himself.

Defense asks about economy. Was there a good future at the space lab? Answer: yes. Witness talks about a possible project with a Norwegian company which would take the rocket project commercial.

Defense: could that be the reason that he cancelled the trip to Bornholm?Answer: Yes. We had talked about why he would use energy for his own rocket launch when he had the possibility of a commercial project.

Prosecutor: when was your last visit to the space lab? Answer: 5-6 weeks before 10 August.

Prosecutor: Do you know for sure that he cancelled the Bornholm tour because of the Norwegian project? Answer: No. But we had talked earlier about why launch a private rocket at same time as Copenhagen Suborbitals

Prosecutor reads a letter from a holding company that owns part of the submarine which reads that they want to confiscate, destroy & not use the submarine commercially. The witness acknowledges the letter.

#petermadsen takes the stand. Prosecutor asks about his possible unlawful sailing of the submarine in relation to 2 large ships. Under the law, the submarine should have gotten out of the way. The two wrestle verbally.

Prosecutor: You testified that #KimWall died @ 22:05 & the near collide happened at 23:47. Could the submarine have been sailing itself because you were with Kim Wall? Answer: No

Prosecutor: @10 am the next day you were surrounded by air & sea. Is that why you decided to sink the submarine? Answer: No. It is a ship that is made to sink.....It took no time. Witnesses said it took 30 seconds.

Prosecutor: Are you still married with your wife? Answer: No. Prosecutor: have you had contact since? Answer: No.

Prosecutor: reads a text message sent from #PeterMadsen to his wife 23:25 that “I am on a little adventure with Nautilus. Am sailing at sea by the moon, I am not diving. Kisses & hugs to the kittens.”

Prosecutor: You say that #kimwall died @ 23:05 & you sent a message 20 minutes later, so #kimwall was dead @ the time? Answer (eventually) yeah.

Prosecutor: I didn’t understand. Answer: I know that my wife would worry. I couldn’t think of much else than that there was a catastrophy on the submarine.

Prosecutor: but you had energy to text your wife? Answer: yes, I had. She means allot to me.

Prosecutor: Can you explain what happened in the submarine with #kimwall? Answer: First we talked about the boat and then she interviewed me.

Defense is protesting why the prosecutor is showing a 4 August text message to the media. The judge says it’s a service. Defense questions this. The prosecutor wants to continue.

Prosecutor reads the correspondence: The woman: “Won’t you give me a death threat?”....Later she writes: “You need to be threatening, Peter.”

#petermadsen writes: “I tie you up & pierce you with a stake.....So I come with a hobby knife and I look at your throat. Where is the vein?”

Later he writes: “You should be tied up in the Nautilus....I have a murder plan ready.” Prosecutor: Didn’t you do that with #kimwall?

The prosecutor tries to find out why #petermadsen kept changing his stories as new evidence came up, particularly the straps, in order to impeach #PeterMadsen’s testimony based what he said earlier. The defense protests.

The prosecutor also mentions that no witnesses have seen the straps placed as they were in the submarine. #petermadsen’s answer: None of those people know everything that goes on in one’s head or what happened in the submarine.

We are going through the sex films. Prosecutor: Were the mutilation videos yours? Answer: Yes, they could be.

Prosecutor: Are the beheading videos yours (on a hard disk with your name)? Answer: I don’t think so. Copenhagen Suborbitals was of 50 and many of them were nerds... who could look for such things on #YouTube

The prosecutor continues going through the items found on the hard drive. #petermadsen has the same answer as in his testimony the first day: no matter what you accuse me of, I would be interested in it.

Prosecutor asks: Has anything happened in your childhood? Answer: I wanted to be a victim in a child 🤬🤬🤬🤬 film.

The court takes a lunch break. The atmosphere this morning was toxic. #PeterMadsen was contentious. His lawyer protested allot - which is a good strategy. It takes time from the prosecution’s questioning.

The defense will be more friendly this afternoon when she questions #petermadsen.

Because they weren’t able to finish the first time, so they set aside the 28 for further questioning.
