I find it incredible that they have yet to depose Y.Melich after all this time.
From the curiosity standpoint alone I would just HAVE to know what his depo would be...

Zsa Zsa, didn't they spend one day fairly recently deposing Yuri, but were planning to complete their deposition on another day? Seems like I remember something about that.

It does just boggle the mind that the defense has known about many of these witnesses from the beginning and has yet to complete their depos of them... :waitasec:

Denjet - see ThinkTank's post above - The State is simply complying with HHJP's request for witnesses listed after May 2010. IMO
Thanks local! I thought this was a separate motion for extension of other witnesses .... all of these cancellations, re-schedulings, extensions, lawyers leaving, lawyers coming are driving me bonkers ...

If your client insisted you not depose someoe, are you obligated as her councel to follow that direction AZ? I sense this was cancelled on KC's insistance. She's afraid of what they might say IMHO.

I agree!!! She (KC) is afraid of them because she knows they will tell the truth and that is something this case circus does not like

After previous cancellations Yuri was deposed in September but the Defense was not done with the deposition and scheduled another date..Oct 26 which they have now canceled.

Sometimes I think Baez just wants to milk the cow for as long as possible.

Knowing that he will have to disappear back into relative obscurity must be frightening.

Or.. I could be wrong, and maybe he has a plan.

Strategy!!

His plan is what he thinks is a future meal plan ...... but....... even then you have to be hungry enough to earn it. That is definitely not happening!

Mr J Baez ain't working on this case no matter how you cut it. Nada, not, never ever -diddly squat.

No shame!

Does anyone remember when Laura B was added to the Defense Witness list?

We know he paid himself ($89,000)
We know he paid Lyon ($20,000)
We know he Did Not pay Baden. Not even what was written in the Retainer Agreement that she rescinded before Casey was declared Indigent.
We know Dominic Casey filed a bar complaint over payment of services..Not sure if he ever did get paid, my guess would be a NO..but Baez said he would look over his invoices.

Intermezzo, I really enjoy and love your posts to death, but I just couldn't help myself after reading this last post...

I was thinking do we really know what he paid? He may have SAID this, but have we seen actual receipts..
Maybe this should be ....

We know HE SAID he paid himself ($89,000)
We know HE SAID he paid Lyon ($20,000)
and so forth.....

And I agree, it should read as you posted above...too late for me to edit it.

Because he said it in open court during the hearing to declare Casey indigent I took that as the truth..but there is a lot of money we, the public, do not have an accounting of.

That's the way I feel too ... they need a humdinger of an excuse as to why neither he nor Mason were available ... Perry will be less than impressed ... I want to hear "You're out in the cold, Mr. Baez ... no extension ... NEXT!!

I find it incredible that they have yet to depose Y.Melich after all this time.
From the curiosity standpoint alone I would just HAVE to know what his depo would be...

I don't know what to expect...it will depend on the reason JB offers. All I know is they found plenty of time to write motions asking for increases in JAC funding. Hope that isn't the excuse he plans on using. I have a feeling he is going to recite all the depos they've conducted recently, travel to TN and NY, spending 2 days calling the TES volunteers and whine about how busy they have been working their butts off and there just wasn't enough time to get it all done. He'll probably even have a NEW color graph for that. lol That is my prediction.

That said, I think Judge Perry may grant him a few more days to depose Yuri. As far as JG, RG and SH....I hope he denies that extension. Judge Perry is dead serious about going to trial in May and serious about the deadlines he has set. There comes a time when a Judge has to quit accommodating these requests or they will keep on keeping on. IF they had actually scheduled some of the depos for weekends or nights, then that would show an effort. If Judge Perry swiftly & emphatically denies an extension and moves on to other business, it will send a strong message and I bet we won't see the defense delaying anymore. That seems to be the ONLY way they are going to get the message that Judge Perry is the one in control.

Awww....but if we consider it truth, don't we then have to consider it truth when he stated in open court that KC retained him on JUNE 16, 2008???

They spent, IIRC, 8 hours deposing Yuri and still were not finished. I hope the judge lays it down to them that he was serious about his deadlines and not grant any extensions.

They didn't have to travel to NY, they could have done that via skype. They have no excuses, IMO. That's time he could have spent deposing witnesses. Maybe he doesn't want to know what they have to say??

I would love for him to be called out: "what exactly have you done, Mr. Baez, for the past 2+ years to assist your client?" He's paid himself $89,000 for what? For him to not have deposed Yuri, John Allen, Amy, Jesse, etc., until now....what has he done? I wish JAC could, or would, deny some of these requests for payment until Baez can prove what he spent the $89K on and what Andrea Lyons spent $20K+ on. That's a lot of money to not be much further along than they were 2 years ago. :waitasec:

ETA: What time is the hearing on Friday? I'm on PT and want to make sure I don't miss it.

Andrea said she spent the 20k on research and computers if I recall. I don't know what she meant by that.

Awwww I want a new laptop TOO!!

20k is still a lot of money for computers and research. Is part of that 20K her Income? or was that 20k supposed to be used toward PI work necessities like computers and gas and whatever she would need to do her job?

And may I ask another newbie question... I was on Matleave for a year and I'm just piecing a few things back together here.. IE ICA = Incarcerated KC But what is JAC?

computers???
AZ...anyone..Can Baez and Lyon use the money to pay for such things as computers for ???themselves or staff.
:waitasec: Baez start coming to court with an Apple Ipad, keyboard...
I don't think I want to hear that the money went into purchasing upgraded computers...

Do they buy a new computer for each big case? Sounds odd..........

What I think I believe I remember hearing (and we all know how *that* goes!) is that the $22,000 was spent on her travel and related expenses. The remainder of the $70,000 her clinic contributed (which would be $48,000) went for the computers and research.

I can see she must have paid Mort Smith probably major bucks, but the computers are still somewhere. To whom do they belong now? Why can't they be sold off and the funds returned?
