May have missed this, but haven't heard: was the theater employing ANY security yesterday? It was mentioned at the presser that off-duty officers occasionally were employed there but none were in place last night. I'm pretty sure that, if one took a calendar of future bookings, say, two months ago, and ranked the possibilities of incidents at any of those showings, a midnight premiere of a Batman film would have had to have scored near the top.

At the very least for crowd control.

Yep, I'm reading that he was doing poorly in school.

I wonder if the anger from going from honors student to can't keep up was too much for his psyche.

Wonder if he was on medication for a problem and couldn't afford them!

People who abuse and molest children don't deserve to be beaten? I'd have to disagree.

We aren't a third world country - we have a Judicial System in this fine country called the USA, where vigilante justice hasn't been the norm for decades upon decades.

Most of us enjoy moving forwards, not backwards.

here is the info on the "dry run" from the Denver ABC News affiliate:
http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/31289126/detail.html

" The CALL7 Investigators have learned the gunman bought a ticket to the Batman movie, sat down for about 15 minutes, and then propped open the back door to the theater when it was dark. The gunman then went back to his car and parked it in the back of the theater, grabbed the guns and went in through the open back door."

Thank you so much for posting this, hopefully there's one rumor that can be stopped.

My speculation is that he wanted LE to respond to the loud disturbance complaint and enter the apartment, setting off whatever he has in there.

JMOO

My speculation only of course but i find it possible that he intended the whole apartment tactic to be a deterrent possibly making the response time to the theatre(atleast response in large numbers) a lot longer thereby allowing his reign of terror to either last longer or the death count to be higher due to the response time in great numbers to have taken longer than usual due tothe fact that his apt around the corner had LE full attention.. jmo on another possibility...

I wish the entire movie industry well at this time. I think they are going to all be hit by this.

People just are not going to want to go to theatres for a while. This monster has not just shot 71 people but also the american movie industry. :twocents:

Stock market drops today for major entertainment corporations in the range of 5% down.

I can say from experience, I agree, its a nice dream for a police officer or prison guard to bounce a child molester off the ground a few times face first. I have worked the job for fifteen years. Sadly, its unacceptable and I myself would be a whistle blower if someone I worked with abused a suspect or inmate. Throw tomato's if you wish. As a police officer you are expected to be held at a higher standard, and they are innocent until proven guilty. As a prison guard they have more rights then the guards actually. And they are paying for their crimes, its not our job to dole out punishment. Sorry if this offends, but its the way it is.

Here is the info on the Dark Knight Rises ads being pulled from television, from the Los Angeles Times: http://www.latimes.com/entertainmen...ds-dark-knight-rises-20120720,0,4533122.story

" Broadcast and cable channels across the country, including NBC, CBS and ESPN, scrambled Friday to remove advertising for "The Dark Knight Rises" following the tragic shooting at a late-night screening of the film in Colorado.

The advertisements were being pulled from national and local programs on broadcast and cable stations, according to people familiar with the matter but not authorized to speak publicly."

Additionally, Warner Brothers pulled a trailer of a gangster shooting up movie theatre, from Deadline:

Creepy coincidence:

http://www.cnn.com/2012/07/20/showbiz/m ... ?hpt=hp_t1

A full-page newspaper ad heralding the opening weekend contains a full quote from Marlow Stern, assistant culture editor of Newsweek, which says, "A monumental conclusion to the epic trilogy. Audiences will be blown away."

Warner Bros. pulled the trailer for the film "Gangster Squad," which had been running before showings of "The Dark Knight Rises." That film trailer features scenes of men armed with machine guns attacking a movie theater.

The world works in mysterious ways.

It seems he may have entered at some point, then exited and propped open a back door. Maybe he changed in the car and then came back in that open, back door?

I was wondering about that, too, although several witnesses say someone opened the door for him. So it could have gone either way.

Sounds logical SmoothOperator. Why would Holmes allow himself to be taken alive? This doesn't make sense to me...

They just said on the news that police have been searching the dumpster behind the theater, they left with several boxes marked evidence in a tinted window car. Wonder if that was his ammo boxes? Just a guess or possibly his vest and gear tags, maybe purchased new? What else could it be

I have a bit of a headache coming on. Can anyone update me on this case? I know everything up to the LE Robot searching his apartment. Does anyone know more about what song was on repeat and any clues around to his coming to this state of mind?

Thank you for maintaining your standards and I totally agree...violence only begets more violence and LE is there to prevent this, not encourage it more, IMO...

ETA: no tomatoes from me...rather

I wonder if he had been going to a range to practice shooting. I feel like he acted out a fantasy.

This is what separates us from the third world countries.

This is what separates us from the criminals themselves - a sense of control, order and due process instead of mass mayhem and vigilante justice.

Bottom line, this is also in part, what gives us our self-respect as well as the high standards and respect we impart to police officers. I shudder to think that in 2012, anyone would still be teaching their children that the Law is ours to take into our own hands. It's simply an archaic mindset.
