with that said....it sat in a MAILROOM not the professors office. the MAILROOM which is more than likely where all mail to the university is delivered.

apparently the prof got a package he/she thought was from JH and contacted LE...FBI showed up, package was not from JH but they did a search and came across the package that was in the mailroom.

I wonder if they searched ALL the packages in the mailroom and found it, or if JH actually put his name on the package as the sender.

If he did NOT put his name on the return address or in the notebook then there is a good chance the notebook wouldn't have foiled his plans even if it had been opened. It would have taken time to figure out who sent it.

they say in the article I believe that his name was on the return address.

I think Fox has it all wrong, or is listening to a not so reliable person. From the other day:

University of Colorado officials: suspicious packages received at school may be linked to shooting

Officials at the University of Colorado say they received two suspicious packages Monday at the Denver-area school
The first package arrived early in the morning and was slipped under the door at a campus building while it was mostly empty. People were not allowed into the building until the threat was cleared. A spokeswoman says she does not know what the package was or who it came from.

The second package was addressed to a person in a separate building and came to the school's central mail facility.

Ugh, this is so sad to hear he did this, and it wasn't seen.

But my immediate thought was...University staff is maybe on limited hours during summer months? Vacation? There's a number of possibilities.

I'm not about to start blaming the psychiatrist or school for this yet. We need to just wait to hear more. Oftentimes, "breaking news" isn't always accurate and with time, more details will come out. (Kinda like by Friday morning, our radio was reporting 15 confirmed dead. I'm glad they were wrong.)

When I was in college 2-3 years ago, I went to the counselor/ psychologist. Unless you were in immediate danger (suicidal, etc), it took about 6 weeks to get an appointment. I imagine the psychiatrist must see a lot of students and receive a lot of mail. Also, school mail system is annoying and half the time my packages would sit in the mail room for days when I was expecting them. Granted, I was a student and maybe staff/faculty mail works differently. I'm sure if the psychiatrist was expecting a package of that nature predicting a mass murder, the package would have been opened. Plus, like PP guessed, things are SLOW in the summer. Less classes, less staff working, people on vacation, etc

If that is the case then it does sound like a cry for help, or at least the conscious choice to leave yet another BIG thing to chance. It is very very odd indeed. It will be interesting to see if that plays a part in his defense, he may be "acting" crazy but sending his plans out a week before the killing spree is more than just acting imo.

Well it sure suggests pre-meditation to me.

It's summer. Most professors wouldn't be teaching so they could go on vacation during the summer.

it just seems so careless, to not open your mail... if he had a relationship with the psychologist, and they just ignored the package...

What would you do then? And fox couldn't confirm that this psychiatrist actually knew JH.

If it sat in the mail room, how do we know the person it was addressed to even knew they had a package?

FOX NEWS REPORTING
JH sent a notebook to a psychiatrist well before the attack and the notebook contained details and sketches of the crime.....

(more to come - commercial break)...

Was it sent to authorities? I would consider that kind of writing a threat.
OK I see the PKG... was not opened.

HOW MISSFORTUNATE that turned out to be. :(

Just another link about the Monday packages, as the one I posted earlier says it will expire in 1 day.

There were two suspicious packages on campus Monday. Both packages turned out to be harmless.

Related Story: 'Suspicious' packages at Colo. university harmless

Officials say one package was slipped under the door of a professor, who didn't recognize the sender. The other was in the campus mail system.

Well I guess people will start blaming mail room workers then for not delivering it in a timely manner.

I think by harmless they meant it would not blow up.

Yep and not anthrax. Also were not going to say what was in them b/c it could harm the case.

A lot of bad horror movies use that as part of the plot. It gets the mad slasher out of the institution so he can carve up more teenagers. But it would be almost imposible to make it work in the real world.

Colorado isn't going to find this shooter insane then let him walk out of the institution in just a few years because he magically got better.

Of course they are not going to let him walk free in a few years. But he may escape the DP, and eventually be given some leeway.

The pyscho that decapitated a stranger on the bus and began eating his head, was sent to a hospital, and was recently given permission to have field trips with other patients.

That's why I hope he is tried by the feds.

They made it clear that as of now, it's unclear whether this psychiatrist was treating Holmes, was a professor who knew/taught Holmes...or if there was any personal relationship. It's unclear right now.

Thinking further, I would bet that if a psychatrist were to have mail delivered to him/her...it's very possible that no one else opens that person's mail due to confidentiality, etc. So if this person was on vacation or on a work trip, etc....I can see how it sat there.

OMG, how sad...........
