Steven Bullock, a family spokesperson for the Day and Holmes families, said the families have yet to hear any updates from authorities regarding their loved one's deaths.

"The Day and Holmes families have not been provided with any information from the FBI or the Dominican Republic Authorities regarding the deaths," Bullock said in a statement to ABC News. "The only information that has been received by the families is what is being reported in the media. Our investigation is continuing, and we will not have any further comment until we receive the results of our investigation. Thank you."

The FBI said that its investigation will continue.

"In the interest of providing as thorough an investigation as possible in this challenging case, the FBI is testing for two additional toxins and will provide Dominican authorities with results when tests are complete," FBI officials said in a statement

FBI: Tourist deaths in Dominican Republic not caused by tainted alcohol

A Maryland couple whose bodies were found in their hotel room in the Dominican Republic on Thursday died of respiratory failure and pulmonary edema.

Edward Holmes and Cynthia Day had been due to return home on the same day their bodies were discovered in the Bahia Principe hotel in the city of La Romana.

The Dominican Republic National Police said in a statement that respiratory woes and pulmonary edema were likely the cause of death for both Holmes, 63, and Day, 49. Different medications for high blood pressure were found in their room, according to officials.

Autopsy finds that Maryland couple visiting Dominican Republic died of respiratory failure and pulmonary edema

Well, isn't that a handy diagnosis for this tragedy. Both died at the same time, and so young. It seems that anyone with lungs and a heart should stay clear of the Dominican. It must be something in the air.

Almost would have me thinking twice for our next Cruise where DR is just a stop. Not sure if I would even want to get off the ship. Yes, seriously.

She was only 49? And she died of natural causes on the same day as her 63 yr old husband ?

Sounds unlikely unless she was known to have bad pulmonary issues for awhile.

Yeah, it makes absolutely no sense. I can't believe they are accepting this cause of death. Two people dating don't just both happen to have pulmonary edema so bad they'd die from it without medical help BUT they both manage to go on vacation together and just oops die together the same day without reaching out for any medical assistance. I'm on a BP medication and have no lung issues. What's the point of that info? Like people on BP medication frequently drop dead of respiratory failure?

It's 2022 and I just saw a news article that reminded me of this thread, but it's a resort in the Bahamas.

I wonder if this case could be a similar environmental cause as some cases in this old thread? I do need to go back and reread this thread.

Such a tragedy:
CNN: Deaths of 3 Americans at Sandals resort in the Bahamas are under investigation, officials say.

I immediately thought about this story of pesticide methyl bromide poisoning in St. John's Virgin Islands in 2015.

In the current fatalities, I read that the couple who died had sought medical help earlier and were sent home.

How utterly terrible.

I was just thinking of the exact same incident and was trying to look it up. IIRC, it happened because the resort/owners used highly toxic pesticides not meant for indoor use.

Yes. In the 2015 indicent, the owners of the apartment underneath the victims had used methyl bromide.

One would think a commercial resport such as Sandals would have a pesticice program that was safer and more regulated.

I get the feeling that the fatalities and the current survivor were not in close proximity.

The other man who died was in a different villa.

Very sad, tragic. Who expects to pay so much for a vacation, then end up seriously ill or dead?

If I were staying there I would probably leave right away.

It sounds very much like pesticide poisoning and I would not want to take the risk of being in association with the same stuff.

Sandals Resorts is going to have a big problem on their hands if they don't take control of this.

Strange terminology. These are clearly not "natural" deaths. So the cause of the death and serious injury for another person is not normal at all.

I would somehow have thought The Bahamas had higher standards than Carribean countries, but I am probalby wrong

Can we have a separate thread for these deaths seeing as they are located elsewhere? Thanks

ETA: sent to mods in the hopes of starting a new thread with previous posts brought forward.

and a link to the new thread please?
