Doogie Howser is Gay!

Ahh, yes....why is that men who are so "adamantly against" gay people, or I should say gay MEN, think it's "different between women." ????

Men who are homophobic against gay men welcome gay or bisexual women with open arms....LOL. Seems they all want to watch two WOMEN get together and fool around with each other sexually and think it's great, but protest so much about gay MEN that it's such a ridiculous double standard.

Methinks that those who protest the loudest may just internally feel the exact opposite of what they outwardly proclaim. :D Yup, I said it.[/QUOTE]
Good point.

People seem annoyed that gays make "declarations" about their sexuality. Think of how annoying it is for gay people to always be presumed to be straight! What a pain it is to have to set the record over and over again.

Some people would rather gays stay out of their consciousness altogether. In fact, just conveniently disappear. This is why coming out of the closet can be a big deal.

Look at this poor Pastor Ted. Reverend Haggard makes a career out of hating gays and being holier than thou political about it. He leads the political movement to oppress gay people. He gets busted hiring a male prostitutute for a "massage" and night of methamphetamines, (ok maybe he didn't inhale or swallow).

Now that is a tragic story IMO. This man is so self-hating, he goes out of his way to harm people who just want to be left alone and have the same rights and responsibilities as citizens in the US as anyone else.

There is growing acceptance of gay people in the US because folks have "come out" and are counted. Too many of us know gay people. We see how ordinary and similar gays are to everyone else.

Its a peculiar fixation of Fox News to make a big deal of "gay counts" in Hollywood and bashing Hollywood's liberalism.

Neil Patrick Harris is no doubtedly openly gay to people he cares about but not making a declaration and someone decided to make him make one by making this a public news story.

I feel this way, too. I also think that this is why people--public or otherwise--do not need to declare their sexuality. If I were in Harris' position, I would have let the website/magazine publish "their findings" and then shrugged my shoulders and said, "So what." It's not like he or others are hiding anything.
I think Neil had felt like he had to make a statement because his publicist issued a statement denying that Neil was gay. I guess there was some outrage in the gay community, including gossip blogger Perez Hilton (who is gay), because Neil was living a faily open lifestyle and it looked like he was suddenly willing to live this big lie. So I guess Neil felt like he had to clear things up.

I didn't realize this. Makes sense, then. :)

I think if a celebrity is gay then they should come out.People idolize celebs, you never know who was given the courage to come out b/c NPH did it or b/c Ellen did it.

Is anyone really surprised? I always thought he was feminine looking and acting anyways.

I don't really see why people make a big deal about coming out. I mean I am straight I don't feel the need to hold a press conference about it or give an interview to People magazine. I don't care if your gay or straight I do think the whole gay stigma would die down though if the gay people would stop making it a big deal. Just deal with what your given and live your life. What did Larry the Cable Guy say it was so funny about a gay guy coming down the road in a parade chanting We're queer and we're here and Larry said well I'm straight and I'm late so get out my way lol
I agree with this.. the way I look at it, if they feel they have nothing to be "ashamed" of, then why hide it.. Yes, there are lots of people in this world who are not going to agree with their lifestyle, but so what, nothing is going to change their minds anyway... :twocents:

You know folks are mighty contradictory on this topic. How would a gay person please any of you?

Some say GAYS make a big deal out of coming out and telling everyone and they should just shut up and leave that information out of everyone's face. Some say gays should not hide it. As if the stigma would go away if straight people simply were not reminded that gay people exist on this earth.

Considering most people presume each other to be heterosexual one can either lie about it or set the record straight.

Hmm indeed. This whole thread. Titillating news about Doogie Howser? How many gays ARE there in Hollywood?

There is a difference between hiding one's identity and matter of factly sharing the truth honestly when asked about being in a relationship or married.

Its a painful question to gay people to be asked if you are married when you do not have the option to do so no matter how devoted you are to your mate.

Your post presumes that gays COME OUT for attention and that they seek approval more than straight people do. That's bunk.

Gays want the right to be married. When it was an option briefly in San Francisco gay people came out of the woodwork to do so.
There is a difference. Why should straights alone have more rights and priveleges than gays. This is not about someone else "moral sensitbilities" being offended. Gays can marry in some churches.

Who cares about getting "approval" from someone with a nasty negative judgment, bias or hatred of you.

The gays will 'stop making it a big deal' when they are treated like normal human beings.
They want equality, they want the same priviledges heterosexuals have and why shouldn't they?

Let them have what we have, and they might stop making a big deal.

When right- wing holier than thou fundies stop making a big deal out of gays existing, getting married, and having families we will all live more peaceably.

Hell yes! And when politicians quit talking about "family values" and instead start focusing on issues like the economy, health care, etc we'll all be better off.

I lived in Boys Town in Chicago for a few years. At the time, I was dating my husband who was just 20 years old. It was quite a different perspective for him to be hit on or ogled when we walked down the street. It also went a long way towards dispelling his homophobia. Our basic political perspective is that religion should not be setting government policy, and people (and especially government) should quit telling other people what's morally right or what's best for them.

Did I miss that you agree with the previous poster that it is gay people making a big deal out of coming out and letting people know their identities?

The poster you agree with states that if gay people just stopped coming out the stigma of being gay would subside.

The truth is exactly opposite. People's attitudes have changed to a great extent because gay people have had the courage to come out and be counted.

Your post stated that gays should not want straight people's approval. My post agrees with that.

Who said you were bashing?

I understand your point of view and disagree with it wholeheartedly. The problem of gay stigma and gay discrimination is not because gay people are openly gay.

Nice DK-

Just what we've all grown to expect from you, intolerance presented humerously.

Good luck on your press release and Doogie threads.
