No idea what other people do but I will not even go in a pool with most jewelry because the water is not good for it and it could easily come off. Beach sand abrasion is not good for jewelry. Some of the pictures I saw online of this resort make it look as if the surf is kind of vigorous- here is one below from a random advert. Lots of wave action. However, we are now, as in many WS threads, asking what do people so when they are drunk, so.....

The resort is the RIU Republica. Is that a road along the left side of the resort in this attached photo?

Do we know if he was passed out on the sand, the edge of the water, or on a one of those beach recliners?
IF, on the sand, whether face up or face down, I wonder why no morning walkers, or security if there was any, didn't check him out. He may have had sand all over him, and in his hair. I'd find that rather concerning.
Or did no-one even see him? Odd in daylight.
Its possible that guests had plastic bracelets from the hotel and any passing security guards would have checked. Left him alone if he did have one, otherwise probably would have moved him on. Just guessing

Excellent post! I didn't buy anything was stolen. We go to the DR & Mexico resorts every year and I have never heard of anything being stolen on the beach. Most people drop their beach stuff off and swim go for breakfast or lunch and leave it all unattended.

This was in the morning, where there no doubt be a number of beach walkers. I can't imagine anyone stole his shoes & shirt while he's was laying there passed out in broad daylight. I don't know about this hotel, but a number of hotels have security checking employees everyday when they leave their shifts. It just doesn't make sense, so where would he actually lose his shoes & shirt? It wasn't in his account like as an example of racing into the water to save her.

* Edited for clarity
I'm not believing that someone stole his clothes. If both sets of clothes (SK's and JR's) were completely gone, I could see it being the wind or the water taking them. Was it 100% established that he brought the phone to the beach? It looks like he was taking selfies with it on the walk to the beach. Was it 100% established that it was found in his room by his friend? Do we 100% know where the friend was all morning? I'm trying to tie this to the two questions about the friend that JR's attorney advised him not to answer. Could JR have sent someone down to the beach to get rid of his clothes?

Nobody should judge anyone who gets a lawyer under these circumstances. I would get a lawyer for my child so fast your head would spin.

Not everyone is a murderer. I think the man was drunk off his 🤬🤬🤬, half blacked out, and doesn’t actually know for sure what happened. He probably almost drowned and she did drown. Just a tragic accident because young adults have no judgment of their own abilities in an unfamiliar environment.

According to this timeline in News Nation, in addition to her brown bikini, loose woven white coverup, and flip-flips, SK was wearing certain items of jewelry. However, it appears that only her coverup and flip-flops were recovered from the chaise lounge where they had been left.

Quoting: 5:55 a.m.: Surveillance cameras captured five women and one man leaving the beach, but Konanki was not with them, the outlet reported. According to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, Konanki was last seen wearing a brown bikini, big round earrings, a metal designer anklet on her right leg, yellow and steel bracelets on her right hand, and a multicolored beaded bracelet on her left hand.

I would think that people typically remove metal jewelry items or any items with stones in settings before entering the ocean for a swim or wade that would immerse the items. Metal corrodes in salt water and stones in settings can become loosened.

I don't swim in the ocean so I don't know. Do people typically remove these items? Or, do they just figure their exposure will be so short-lived that there will not be a problem?

ETA: It would be helpful to know whether her friends know what SK typically did.
I'd like to know what the friends say, or if she gave them any of her jewelry for safekeeping when she decided to remain on the beach. I'm an open water swimmer and I leave my earrings in, some of which have stones. I'd leave on a beaded bracelet if it was small enough not to slip off. Same with an anklet.

Yes to this. Clinically, JR’s account is consistent with a condition termed “non-fatal drowning.” Vomiting up saltwater and passing out from exhaustion are both telltale signs of this situation and are normally indications for seeking immediate medical attention. I’ve tried to find literature on the potential psychological effects associated with a non-fatal drowning but don,y know enough to report yet. That said, I planned on shifting my focus instead to the acute psychological effects of what I believe JR experienced that day in the ocean: being suddenly swept out to sea with a young woman he had just met, panicking and fighting for his life, and being the only one to survive. That’s a traumatic experience and the pathophysiology of drowning aside, the acute effects of this profound trauma could potentially explain why his behavior since that morning has seemed illogical, bizarre and at times suspicious. Acute shock, fear, immaturity, and being in a foreign land could all be at work.
Adding to that was that he was intoxicated…

IDK & I'm not a jewelry person, but some of the friends that travel with us, have expensive jewelry & they wear it in the ocean. Girls that maybe impaired on March break, I am guessing it's not a thought...?

BBM
Was his key card in his shoes?
First I'm hearing about them being stolen.
I wonder why they assumed they were stolen and not just washed out to sea?
I need some clarification on a few points: She was last seen on March 6th at 5:50. Why did it take the authorities so long to discover SK's belongings, which weren't found until March 15th? Shouldn't SK and JR's friends have directed the authorities to the location where they were, allowing them to find her flip-flops and cover-up on March 6th around 4:00 or shortly thereafter? It seems odd that it took nine days to locate SK's items, especially since they have been searching the beach for over 8 days now.

  • 06/03/25 05.50 - SK last seen on the beach with JR
  • 06/03/25 08.54 OR 10.00 — JR returns to the resort, barefoot and shirtless.
  • 06/03/25 16.00 — (Approx) SK’s friends report her missing
  • 06/03/25 17.43 — SK’s father files missing person report with Loudoun County Sheriffs Office.
  • 07/03/25 ~ — Allegedly friends go to pick up JR’s belongings from the beach but his shoes and key card were stolen.
  • 10/03/25 ~ — Dom. Rep. Police say on X that they are re-interviewing people who had been with SK and employees.
  • 12/03/25 ~ — JR named as a person of interest, interviewed by police
  • 15/03/25 ~ — SK’s belongings seemingly found sprawled on a beach chair (flip flops and netted shawl)

I never remove jewelry in the water, much easier to lose it if you take it off. Moo

I don’t know that we have an allowed source with the info about his missing shoes and room key card.

But if is accurate, I wonder how he got into his room. Did he go to the front desk to have another card made?
"I went to my friend’s room to get my phone, then went to my own room to sleep."

In the surveillance videos of SK and JR walking together, his body is bright red. The video is posted multiple times in this thread.
Right, his body is bright lobster red, you said that, koosh. Noice that Vid is Posted multiple times here, you shouldn’t have an issue linking or quoting? New here and appreciate patience. I dug your insight and wanted to honor it with thoughtful reply. Wanted to clarify which video was red lobster because earlier I was reading a post challenging the ID of persons in certain videos as JR. cheers comrade

See the photo showing JR's back in this NY post article and then compare the color of his back to the color of his legs:

Yo, you are not kidding! Thanks Diddian that totally refutes my elaborate Sherlock sunburn theory. I appreciate your reply

I checked the college website of the POI and looks like their spring break ended on March 7th. Long time to miss out on college coursework and holed up in a foreign country.

Could explain why they were so drunk and displayed risky behaviours. Last night of the holiday let loose type of scenario
