He is now on a JetBlue flight back to the US.

Anybody know why he needed a new passport and his original could not be returned to him?
I wonder if it’s something like the police refused to return it as they consider it an ongoing investigation. But he applied for a replacement, which the US deemed legitimate, and issued him a new one and he traveled on the new passport without jumping through hoops (or paying any bribes, not uncommon in my personal experience) to have the old passport returned.

I think the last part might be it- They would return it after you fill out these forms and wait the required X number of days etc....

JMO - I think it is related to what the witnesses say. Either no one saw him sleeping on the beach that morning, or maybe people who saw him upon return thought that he looked strange.

DR is an international resort and some potential witnesses might have left. It takes some time to contact everyone.

P.S. if there is a high index of suspicion that JR is involved, it is great that he has lawyers. Everything by the book.

I wonder if any of those interviewed saw the couple on the beach.

Riibe was among more than 50 people interviewed in the case, officials said.

I think yes and I think this is why the parents are so accepting of what happened. But I also think it wasn’t and won’t be released because it may play into a drunken drowning accident even more and that looks worse.

Just my opinion and speculation

I really don't think JR did anything to cause her disappearance. I wonder if maybe they kissed, she didn't want it to go further and he got out of the water and passed out. If she wasn't really in to him then I could see why he didn't look for her the next morning (not wanting to seem stalkerish). But if things genuinely happened the way he said, then I think he should have tried to make contact early after he returned to the hotel. My college freshman says people don't exchange phone numbers but instead exchange their snap chat and primarily use that to communicate. But I also think it's likely he thought they'd see each other that night at the bar and didn't think she didn't return to the hotel.

But in my opinion, if the near drowning actually occurred. I would think that would be on his mind when he woke up. Possibly he thought it was a bad dream because he was so drunk. I would like to know what he told his friend about that night as soon as he spoke to him
All my opinion and random thoughts. Something just doesn't add up with his stories. But that doesn't mean i think he hurt her

Another Pitt student who was staying at the same resort that Sudiksha Konanki stayed at gave an insight about the conditions at the resort at the time of Sudiksha Konanki's disappearance.

Snipped from the article you posted:
The prosecutor’s office informed Riibe it was prepared to return his passport Wednesday, according to Santana. “Although grateful for the Prosecutor’s Office’s decision, Joshua decided, for privacy reasons, to apply for a new one at the U.S. Consulate, which was issued urgently,” Santana said

Thanks - interesting she says room keys weren’t working for a lot of the rooms. I wonder if this was fixed by the morning?

Privacy reasons sound like “Because excuse me while you’ve kept me here detained but not detained and plastered me all over, but I don’t trust you to get my passport back to me or allow me to leave”

“Reports from the last people around her say she was in the water,”

I note that it says “people”—plural, so others corroborated Joshua’s story.. Perhaps it was the friends they walked down to the beach with, but I wonder if other witnesses saw her in the water, as well.

Can someone please link the picture of her cover up that was found compared to what she was wearing? What i saw doesn't look like the same clothing. But I can't remember how far back that was on here
This DM article shows it.

The story has been headlines in DR for over a week, whilst having huge areas without drinking water for months, education reforms, etc I learned a bit

And then some drunken antics plunge this country into doubt. They had enough cctv for it to be terrible enough. But they cannot cover J's whereabouts when he says he was on the beach sleeping. I think that is where the gap lies.

In other words, they feel that he should have been captured on camera due to the location he gave them

Yeah. Honestly, it looked to me like that guy was too wasted to do any kind of attack. They probably took off shoes, jumped in the water, playing around, a wave knocked them over, and he made it back to the beach, probably wandered back to the hotel. He probably didn't even think about her.
Since he passed out and returned to the hotel much later (as seen on CCTV), he probably thought she had left him on the beach, never considering he has leaving her.

Amanda Knox vibes.... travel is supposed to such a good experience for young people but...
in the beginning it looked similar, yes. The difference is, the place where Meredith Kercher was staying was super safe. In Punta Cana, give or take, five people drowned in the beginning of the year. And the story provided by the other Pitt student - no light, no electricity, no guard, darkness - shows that the resort is not fully safe. Not likely, but potentially possible, nefarious people very different from Riibe might be involved. Now I understand why the DR authorities were so hard on JR.
